Siblings are [name_u]Pepper[/name_u], [name_f]Marianne[/name_f], and [name_m]Arthur[/name_m]. Gender unknown. I have looked around but am still feeling unsure what direction to go.
What would you name baby number four if it is a girl? Boy?
I don’t want names that are too high on the popularity charts. Or to repeat an initial already used in our family (no C, P, M, or A names).
[name_m]Edmund[/name_m] works well for a boy - old fashioned, familiar and vintage like [name_m]Arthur[/name_m], but off beat classic like [name_f]Marianne[/name_f]
I like [name_f]Fern[/name_f] for a girl. It has a vintage feel like [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] and [name_f]Marianne[/name_f] but also, it’s a word name like [name_u]Pepper[/name_u]
I’m finding it hard to judge your style so I hope these names are the kind you are looking for. I also agree with the above that [name_m]Edmund[/name_m] is a good choice for a boy.
From the ones you like already, I like [name_m]Edmund[/name_m] and [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] for a boy. [name_m]Edmund[/name_m] is very close stylistically to [name_m]Arthur[/name_m], so a hood choice, and [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] bridges the gap between classic [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] and more wordy [name_u]Pepper[/name_u].
For girls, I like [name_f]Fern[/name_f] and [name_u]Rowan[/name_u]. Both are nature names that go with [name_u]Pepper[/name_u] and [name_f]Marianne[/name_f] particularly.
For classic boys names like [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] I like;
[name_u]Emmett[/name_u]
[name_m]George[/name_m]
[name_m]Henry[/name_m]
[name_u]James[/name_u]
[name_m]Alfred[/name_m]
[name_m]Adam[/name_m]
For more in between boys I like;
[name_u]Everett[/name_u]
[name_m]Ronan[/name_m]
[name_m]Colin[/name_m]
For girls I like;
[name_f]Violet[/name_f]
[name_f]Tessa[/name_f]
[name_f]Lavender[/name_f]
[name_f]Poppy[/name_f]
[name_f]Nora[/name_f]
[name_f]Heather[/name_f]
It’s a credit to everyone’s good taste, I think, that half of the suggestions are already taken by friends and loved ones.
It sounds like everyone loves Edmund and Fern? My husband just vetoed Fern, but I’m also considering this from the great ideas previous:
Rowenna/Rowena/Rowan
Betty or Betsy (I lean towards Betsy)
Ivy
Heath or Hugh
Beatrice
Dolly (although I would go for Dolores to get to the nickname)
Goldie (is it too whimsical for an adult other than Goldie Hawn?)
Jules (Julian is off the table for me because my cousin shares the name, too weird for my taste)
I like [name_f]Dolores[/name_f] nn [name_f]Dolly[/name_f]!
If you like [name_f]Goldie[/name_f] but worry it is too cutesy on its own how about as a nn for:
[name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f]
[name_f]Geraldine[/name_f]
[name_f]Marigold[/name_f]
Thanks everyone! [name_f]Dolores[/name_f] is probably the front runner for girl names, I just love it and although I’m not [name_m]Christian[/name_m], I find the compassion and pain meaning to be appropriate and meaningful for this pregnancy. I know in American culture we tend to want only positive symbolism, but I find strength and depth in the idea of suffering out of love for someone. It shows character. This journey to baby number four has been a huge character builder for me, and I can only hope that some of the resilience I have had to learn passes on to this child.
You have lots of great options there.
I mostly wanted to mention [name_u]Tristan[/name_u] (or [name_m]Tristram[/name_m]), based on your love of [name_f]Dolores[/name_f].
A few more thoughts:
[name_f]Ramona[/name_f]
Romola
[name_f]Ione[/name_f]
[name_f]Edwina[/name_f]
[name_u]Eloise[/name_u]
[name_f]Zelie[/name_f]
[name_f]Xanthe[/name_f]
[name_m]Edmund[/name_m] was going to be my top suggestion, I think it fits perfectly! I also like [name_f]Frances[/name_f] with your other kids’ names!
A few other suggestions which I don’t think have been mentioned yet:
[name_f]Marianne[/name_f] and [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] seem of a similar style to me. I would choose something to “match” [name_u]Pepper[/name_u]. I like [name_f]Fern[/name_f] or [name_u]Raven[/name_u] for that purpose.
