I know there are tons of “what would you name your X family” threads but…!
Recently started watching Shameless—and the show revolves around a family of six kids with regular names. Always really fascinated by fictional media that features large families in un-special circumstances—mostly because their names either go way, way out or are your ninth grade history class with no in between.
The [name_m]Gallagher[/name_m] kids of Shameless are:
[name_f]Fiona[/name_f]
[name_m]Phillip[/name_m] (“Lip”) (this was such a smart nickname)
[name_m]Ian[/name_m]
[name_f]Debbie[/name_f] (“[name_f]Debs[/name_f]”)
[name_m]Carl[/name_m]
[name_u]Liam[/name_u]
(It’s really the placement of [name_f]Debbie[/name_f] and [name_m]Carl[/name_m] that have inspired this, because, truly, I feel like they orient the sibling set.)
Using regular [name_m]Joe[/name_m] & [name_f]Mary[/name_f], (what you consider to be) kid-next-door, (maybe a little dated) names, what would you name 6 kids? Really, really interested!
(I realize that this is so subjective, just looking forward to seeing your answers!)
[name_m]Thomas[/name_m], [name_m]Daniel[/name_m], [name_m]Robert[/name_m], [name_f]Martha[/name_f], [name_f]Lucy[/name_f], [name_f]Sarah[/name_f]. (These were just the first to pop into my mind! [name_f]Rachel[/name_f] and [name_u]Michael[/name_u] also fit the bill!)
I love Shamless so much. They keep making terrible decisions, & it’s somehow enjoyable to watch. I thought that the writers did a pretty good realistic job naming the characters. They all fit their characters so well. I especially love [name_f]Fiona[/name_f], even though my little doggy [name_f]Fiona[/name_f] is a bit more innocent than [name_f]Fiona[/name_f] [name_m]Gallagher[/name_m]!
I never really watched either Shameless but always liked the fact the names ‘worked’ and were kept in both the original UK and then the US show. (At least for that first family)
For generic UK names I’d probably go for:
[name_f]Emily[/name_f]
[name_u]Michael[/name_u]
[name_u]Oliver[/name_u]
[name_f]Jessica[/name_f]
[name_m]Luke[/name_m]
[name_u]James[/name_u]
The reality of it is I think what makes it so addicting I’m currently getting my MSW and from top to bottom it really just illustrates the necessity for social work services on every level.
(also [name_f]Fiona[/name_f]!!! is such a great!!! name!!!)
