What would you name Wilhelmina's sister?

[name_f]Wilhelmina[/name_f] is number 1 on our list for a girl due to it being in my family. [name_f]Wilhelmina[/name_f] is, to me, a soft, happy-sounding, romantic name and slightly whimsical. I love the honour nickname [name_f]Lillie[/name_f] (instead of Billie), [name_f]Minnie[/name_f] and [name_f]Elma[/name_f].

  • What do you think would pair as a sister to her?
  • The rest on the list are but nothing gets me the imagery, maybe you can hype one of theses up or suggest something else?
  1. [name_f]Lorelai[/name_f] - [name_f]Lola[/name_f]
  2. [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] - [name_f]Evie[/name_f], [name_u]Ivy[/name_u], [name_f]Vivi[/name_f]
  3. [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] - [name_f]Evie[/name_f] or [name_f]Annie[/name_f]
  4. [name_f]Alessia[/name_f] - [name_f]Essie[/name_f] or [name_f]Elsie[/name_f]
  5. [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f] - [name_f]Maggie[/name_f], [name_f]Nola[/name_f] or [name_f]Mia[/name_f]
  6. [name_f]Rosalind[/name_f] - [name_f]Rose[/name_f], [name_f]Sally[/name_f] or [name_u]Indie[/name_u]
  7. [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] - CeCe, [name_f]Letty[/name_f] or [name_f]Elsie[/name_f]
  8. Emeliese - [name_f]Emie[/name_f] or [name_f]Elsie[/name_f]
Names I can't use

[name_f]Gwendolen[/name_f] (and thus any [name_f]Gwen[/name_f] name)
[name_f]Abigail[/name_f]
[name_f]Amelia[/name_f]
[name_f]Elara[/name_f]
[name_f]Gabrielle[/name_f]
[name_f]Penelope[/name_f]
[name_f]Coralie[/name_f]
[name_f]Clementine[/name_f]

I adore [name_f]Wilhelmina[/name_f] (especially spelled Willamina)! But I couldn’t get hubby on board with it. We settle on [name_f]Caledonia[/name_f], nickname [name_f]Callie[/name_f].

[name_f]Rosalind[/name_f] and Emeliese among these

With my own names….

[name_f]Frida[/name_f]
[name_f]Liselotte[/name_f]
[name_f]Beatrix[/name_f]
[name_f]Josephine[/name_f]
[name_f]Elisabeth[/name_f]

I call my daughter [name_f]Willamina[/name_f] - her real name is [name_f]Willa[/name_f] but I really like [name_f]Willamina[/name_f] (just too busy with her last name - I prefer [name_f]Willamina[/name_f] because she has more Scottish in her than [name_m]German[/name_m] and it’s simpler). Her nicknames are [name_f]Lil[/name_f], [name_f]Lily[/name_f] and [name_u]Will[/name_u]. :ribbon:

For a sister, I would go:

[name_f]Wilhelmina[/name_f] &

[name_f]Adelaide[/name_f]
[name_f]Clothilde[/name_f]
[name_f]Rosamund[/name_f]
[name_f]Claudette[/name_f]
[name_f]Primrose[/name_f]
[name_f]Bernadette[/name_f]
[name_f]Henrietta[/name_f]
[name_f]Augusta[/name_f]
[name_f]Benedikte[/name_f]
[name_f]Hannelore[/name_f]
[name_f]Anoushka[/name_f]
[name_f]Raffaela[/name_f]
Susannah/Suzanne
[name_f]Lucette[/name_f]

[name_u]Or[/name_u] maybe [name_f]Ida[/name_f] - for an unexpected but similarly [name_m]German[/name_m] name!

[name_f]Henrietta[/name_f]!

I think you’re on the right track with your list - [name_f]Wilhelmina[/name_f] is on the heavy / clunky side (whilst also managing to be whimsical - no mean feat), so I’d be going for a similarly longer length name to balance but also edging lighter in feel.

With this is mind I think [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] and [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] are pretty much perfect. [name_f]Rosalind[/name_f] and [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] aren’t my taste but they also work really well. Not familiar with Emeliese but this would definitely also work in Germanic feel while providing a light counterpoint.

I was thinking [name_f]Winifred[/name_f], [name_f]Josephine[/name_f], [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f], [name_f]Henrietta[/name_f], but [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] is absolutely stunning!

I’ll suggest:

[name_f]Wilhelmina[/name_f] and [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] (Josie, [name_f]Effie[/name_f], [name_f]Posy[/name_f], Seffie, Joni)

[name_f]Wilhelmina[/name_f] and [name_f]Harriet[/name_f] (Hattie, [name_f]Hettie[/name_f], [name_f]Etta[/name_f], Ettie)

[name_f]Wilhelmina[/name_f] and [name_f]Henrietta[/name_f] (Henny, [name_f]Etta[/name_f], [name_f]Hettie[/name_f], Ettie)

[name_f]Wilhelmina[/name_f] and [name_f]Theodora[/name_f] (Thea, [name_f]Dora[/name_f], [name_u]Theo[/name_u], [name_u]Teddie[/name_u], Thora)

[name_f]Wilhelmina[/name_f] and [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f] (Dottie, [name_f]Dodie[/name_f], Dolly)

[name_f]Wilhelmina[/name_f] and [name_f]Leonie[/name_f] (Leo, [name_f]Leni[/name_f], [name_f]Lea[/name_f], [name_f]Lola[/name_f], Lolo)

[name_f]Wilhelmina[/name_f] and [name_f]Cassandra[/name_f] (Cassie, [name_f]Candy[/name_f], [name_f]Sandie[/name_f], [name_f]Cadie[/name_f], [name_f]Caddie[/name_f], [name_f]Cara[/name_f], Sanna)

[name_f]Wilhelmina[/name_f] and [name_f]Francesca[/name_f] (Frankie, [name_u]Fran[/name_u], [name_f]Chessie[/name_f], Essie)

[name_f]Wilhelmina[/name_f] and [name_f]Philippa[/name_f] (Pippa, [name_f]Pippi[/name_f], [name_u]Pip[/name_u], Phee)

Of yours:

[name_f]Rosalind[/name_f] → bold, sleek and literary
[name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] → stylish and powerful but sweet too

[name_f]Wilhelmina[/name_f] definitely doesn’t feel soft or romantic to me - on the contrary, she’s headstrong, a bit gritty, Germanic, a warrior’s name. I’d name a sister [name_f]Bernadette[/name_f].

I think [name_f]Lorelei[/name_f] and [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] fit best

I like [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] and [name_f]Rosalind[/name_f] best on your list

What about [name_f]Wilhelmina[/name_f] and [name_f]Annabelle[/name_f]?

Thank you for all the replies and suggestions :slightly_smiling_face:
