What would you pair with Isaac?

What name would you pair with [name_m]Isaac[/name_m], and would you put [name_m]Isaac[/name_m] first or in the middle?

I love [name_m]Isaac[/name_m] [name_u]Sterling[/name_u] or [name_m]Isaac[/name_m] [name_m]Grayling[/name_m], but those are just my idiosyncrasies.

I think [name_m]Isaac[/name_m] goes with so so many middles, there is not much restriction. Id probably avoid names with a strong sharp ‘c/k’ or ‘z’ sound. We love the name [name_m]Isaac[/name_m] and would happily have used it as a first had it not been our eldests middle name.

You could take [name_m]Isaac[/name_m] in several directions. What’s your style?

Thanks for the suggestions, and sorry for my slow response. This weekend has been incredibly and unexpectedly busy.

I was hoping to post a sort of general question to prompt a wide variety of response, without getting too nitpicky about style or details, but that sort of fizzled. I don’t know if I have a style, though I don’t tend to go for highly unusual names. My style, such as it is, has evolved over the years. I don’t tend to go for unisex names, though I think I’m more mid-spectrum than hard edges on masculinity-femininity; I don’t have to have [name_m]Axel[/name_m] or [name_m]Drake[/name_m], for example, but I’d like for my sons’ names to sound like boys and for my girls’ names to sound like girls. So I’m a traditionalist in that way. I tend to go for sound, flow, rhythm, and vibe over meaning or history or origin. I don’t want a name that sounds made up or that my kid would have to explain or spell every time, or that others will mispronounce. I do like literary or hero or virtue references or allusions, though I’d probably put anything too obviously referential or word-like as a middle and not a first. I like a wide variety of names, from [name_m]Wilder[/name_m], [name_m]Maddox[/name_m], [name_m]Thatcher[/name_m], and [name_m]Drake[/name_m] (yep, I do like it) to [name_m]Miles[/name_m], [name_m]Declan[/name_m], [name_u]River[/name_u] and [name_u]Finn[/name_u].

My husband has more conservative, traditional taste than I do, and tends to think many of the names I like are a little bit weird to use as actual names for actual babies for our actual family. He prefers [name_m]Isaac[/name_m] in the first name spot, and I prefer [name_m]Isaac[/name_m] in the middle name spot. Mostly, it just doesn’t feel like a first name I’d love to use; I’m not sure why. I definitely want to use it, though, as I felt like the baby whispered that name to me before I even knew I was pregnant - it means ‘he laugheth’ and I think he was trying to tell me a little bit about himself. So, [name_m]Isaac[/name_m] will be somewhere in his name, if I can figure out what I like the sound of and agree on it with my husband.

I’ve considered all the names listed above to go with [name_m]Isaac[/name_m], plus [name_m]Weston[/name_m], [name_u]Theo[/name_u], [name_m]Gideon[/name_m], [name_m]Joseph[/name_m], and [name_m]Daniel[/name_m]. A whole host of other names have been on my list over the years (this is baby #11, boy #2). We already have a [name_m]Luke[/name_m] [name_u]Reid[/name_u]. He’s the 4th to have [name_u]Reid[/name_u] as a middle, and I’d like to find a family name to go with [name_m]Isaac[/name_m] ([name_m]Daniel[/name_m] is one; [name_u]Jesse[/name_u] is another possibility, as are [name_u]Ray[/name_u] and [name_m]Calvin[/name_m]). But I also would be okay not going with a family name, as [name_u]Reid[/name_u] and [name_m]Isaac[/name_m] are each significant for their own reasons. Our girls don’t have family names, but most have a significance for either first or middle.

Any thoughts or suggestions, Berries?
