What's the difference?

[name]Amelia[/name] and [name]Emilia[/name]? What is the difference between them other than the spellings? I pronounce [name]Amelia[/name] (uh-meal-ee-uh) and [name]Emilia[/name] ( eh-meal-ee-uh). Are those the only differences? I feel like I’m missing something. Lol.

When I see [name]Emilia[/name] I think [name]Em[/name]-ma-lee-ah. Which may be wrong but I like

The difference is very slight to me, but when I see [name]Amelia[/name] I’m inclined to pronounce it the American way, with three syllables (uh-MEEL-yuh) and I think of [name]Emilia[/name] as more Spanish (em-MEEL-ee-uh).

I pronounce [name]Amelia[/name] uh-mee-lee-uh and [name]Emilia[/name] eh-mee-lee-uh…that’s the only difference to me. A very slight sound difference in the first. [name]Emilia[/name] will always be misheard as [name]Amelia[/name] in my opinion.

I pronounce them the same as you. There’s a subtle pronunciation difference, but the main difference is its image, to me. I absolutely adore [name]Emilia[/name], but [name]Amelia[/name] is one of my least favorite names.

Good luck!

I pronounce them the same as you, but for some reason I still prefer [name]Emilia[/name] over [name]Amelia[/name]. I like [name]Em[/name], [name]Emmy[/name] and [name]Mila[/name] as nicknames and they all seem more intuitive coming from [name]Emilia[/name].

[name]Amelia[/name] is derived from Amala (think [name]Amalia[/name]), and [name]Emilia[/name] is derived from Aemilius (think Emilius, [name]Emil[/name], [name]Emily[/name] and so on.) The pronunciations are, coincidentally, similar. I have heard [name]Emilia[/name] pronounced em-i-[name]LEE[/name]-a, though.
