What's the etiquette about "bumping" your own threads?

So Nameberry is the first forum I’ve ever consistently posted on, and I just have some etiquette questions. I have seen on other forums where someone has just commented “bump” on their own post so that it goes back to the top and more people will view and respond to it. I don’t ever really see that here…is it considered poor taste?

For example, I have a thread that I started recently really late at night when few people were online, and it hasn’t been responded to yet. It no longer shows up in the new posts area, so I was wondering if there is a way to move that thread back into circulation that is within the parameters of good NB etiquette. I don’t want to be one of those annoying people who “bumps” their thread every five minutes, but I would like to get some feedback.

The question also applies to an older thread that received a lot of responses at first, but I’m still interested in pursuing the topic. If I was the last person that posted weeks ago with no replies since, is it okay to “bump” that thread, or even just say “Still haven’t been able to settle on a name and would be interested in further feedback”?

I’m probably over-thinking this, but like I said NB is my first real forum experience so I want to be on my best behavior

I don’t think there’s anything wrong with “bumping” your own thread, especially in a situation like you’re describing where it’s unlikely many people have seen your thread. The only time “bumping” is bad forum etiquette is when someone is constantly bumping their own thread in order to keep it at the top of the page.

I think it’s fine, especially in the girl section where there are posted pages of new threads every day. I’ve seen people bump, I think I’ve done it myself too
