What's wrong with Denise?

I’ve always really loved the name [name]Denise[/name]- so much that I’m considering it for a future daughter. I even got hubby to agree to put it on the future girls list! However, when I told my friends this they told me they hated it but couldn’t really tell me why. My sister thinks it sounds old but there are a lot of popular names right now like [name]Charlotte[/name], [name]Josephine[/name], [name]Sophie[/name], [name]Claire[/name], etc which used to be branded as old too. So I am wondering what you guys think of the name [name]Denise[/name]? And do you think it has the potential to make a come back or not? Thanks

Personally this is one of the names that I absolutely hate! It sounds more like [name]Denny[/name]'s to me than anything else. I think it sounds very attached to the 60’s and 70’s and just very out of style now. It seems like it would be the name of a modern grandma instead of a baby.

I don’t have an issue with [name]Denise[/name]! I think it sounds pretty, and if you like it, I wouldn’t let other’s views of it make you doubt yourself.
And when paired with an adorable middle name, I think [name]Denise[/name] could be really cute!

There’s nothing wrong with it! If you love it, use it! But since you asked, it does sound like a middle-aged woman to me. But I’ve never met a little girl with the name. If I knew one, my perception would probably change.

There’s nothing wrong with [name]Denise[/name]! This was almost my mn so maybe Im biased lol but I think it’s lovely and it goes especially well with names that end with A or something similar.

I agree that there’s nothing wrong with [name]Denise[/name]. [name]Both[/name] it and its masculine counterpart–[name]Dennis[/name]–feel quite dated to me. Not in a good grandma way, like [name]Violet[/name], [name]Charlotte[/name], or [name]Cora[/name]–but like a tired 70s way like [name]Jennifer[/name], [name]Brittany[/name], or [name]Danielle[/name]. They’re all fine names but they got so much use in our generation that they feel overused and not as pretty and fresh right now. I don’t think that makes it unusable–I just think it makes it harder for everyone to love your choice. I absolutely adore the name [name]Rachel[/name] (as do quite a few people on this site), but others are against it because it feels just as dated to them as [name]Denise[/name] does to me. To me, [name]Rachel[/name] is classic, and you very well might feel the same about [name]Denise[/name]. If you love it, use it. I surely will use [name]Rachel[/name] if I get the chance.

My opinion of the name is also slightly colored by a coworker I have with this name, but that’s hardly relevant to whether or not you should use it, haha.

Good luck!

I think [name]Denise[/name] is pretty. And personally I’ll choose it over the popular names like [name]Charlotte[/name] or [name]Sophie[/name]. It’ll be better if your daughter has her own name and not share it with 3 or 4 classmates. [name]Just[/name] use it.

I happen to agree quite strongly with ashthedreamer. [name]Denise[/name] has nothing wrong with it and I can see why people like it, but it feels dated (in a tired way, like ash said). Someday, [name]Isabella[/name] will probably feel the same way.

I also happen to agree with c@29, it’s better to have your own name. She will probably be the only [name]Denise[/name] in a class of [name]Isabelle[/name]'s, [name]Isabella[/name]'s, and [name]Isabel[/name]'s.

I too think [name]Denise[/name] is dated, but in a daggy 70s way, not a fresh way.
What about Necia instead?

I wouldn’t put [name]Denise[/name] in the same category as [name]Josephine[/name], [name]Charlotte[/name], ect- I think of those as ‘granny’ and [name]Denise[/name] as more of a ‘mom’ name. I don’t dislike [name]Denise[/name] though. It’s nice. I really like [name]Dolores[/name], which reminds me of [name]Denise[/name] for some reason.
I think [name]Denise[/name] would sound fresh on a little girl- it’s familiar and recognizable but you never hear it on a playground. I think that’s a good thing. Maybe you would like [name]Clarice[/name]? I feel like that one would be more well-received here?

I like it, but I think I like it better as a middle name. It would flow nicely in the middle after many first names. However, if you love the name, it is a perfectly fine name, even if it isn’t at the height of fashion right now. Who cares? All the names that sound fresh right now will one day be dated, too.

I can see how [name]Denise[/name] can be viewed as dated or a “mom” name, but personally, I find [name]Denise[/name] on a child of 2010s to be far more interesting than [name]Isabella[/name], [name]Sophia[/name], [name]Charlotte[/name], [name]Violet[/name], etc.

I also like a 70s name [name]Deana[/name] but I wouldn’t use it. If you love [name]Denise[/name] then use it!
