The name [name_m]Luke[/name_m] has been on my mind for a long time now. It started with my oldest brother [name_m]Luke[/name_m] [name_u]Jamison[/name_u] [name_u]Hunter[/name_u], then childhood best friend [name_m]Luke[/name_m] [name_m]Hayes[/name_m] who later became my boyfriend from freshman to junior year, then my US [name_m]History[/name_m] professor who I worshipped at [name_f]Alabama[/name_f] ([name_f]Crimson[/name_f] [name_m]Tide[/name_m]!) Mr. [name_m]Luke[/name_m] Workman, and now possibly one of my children.
It is one of my options for a middle for my third son and we were seriously considering using it as a first for my oldest boy (who we ended up choosing [name_u]Whitney[/name_u] [name_m]Levi[/name_m] for).
I like it. I favour it over [name_u]Luca[/name_u]/[name_m]Luka[/name_m] definitely, and maybe over [name_m]Lucas[/name_m]. [name_m]Both[/name_m] of which get more love on NB and I don’t know why.
I doubt I’d actually use it, it’s a bit [name_m]New[/name_m] Testament for me, but it has a nice sound and its a good solid name.
I don’t think there’s anything wrong with [name_m]Luke[/name_m]–it’s very wholesome, and I can see a little (or grown-up!) southern gentleman wearing it well. But if your brother is [name_m]Luke[/name_m], do you really want to use it, too? If he’s still in the picture, I would think it would be pretty confusing. [name_u]Whitney[/name_u], [name_m]Knox[/name_m], and [name_m]Luke[/name_m] are pretty cool for brothers, though!
Personally, I find it a wee bit bland, and I prefer other Biblical names (or even other forms of the [name_m]Luke[/name_m]/[name_f]Lucy[/name_f] family, like [name_m]Lucian[/name_m] or [name_f]Lucia[/name_f]), but there’s nothing wrong with it, and it is a nice, solid name that will suit him well throughout his life. I feel like it fits in the category of [name_m]Adam[/name_m] and [name_m]Jared[/name_m] and possibly even [name_u]Jesse[/name_u]–I know a lot of them that are my age or that I went to school with, or work with now, but they were never dated enough to be unusable now, and I think it’d still be pretty refreshing to come across one these days. [name_m]Luke[/name_m]'s never really spoken to me, but I’ve never heard bad reviews on it? I seriously considered it as a mn at one point ([name_m]Benjamin[/name_m] [name_m]Luke[/name_m]).
Currently I’m really loving [name_m]Luke[/name_m] as a middle name! It’s a bit bland next to my other favorites for me to want to use it as a first name though. [name_m]Luke[/name_m] is a solid, biblical choice and I fail to see why anyone wouldn’t like it at all. I defiantly prefer [name_m]Luke[/name_m] to [name_m]Lucas[/name_m] and [name_u]Luca[/name_u]!
There’s nothing wrong with [name_m]Luke[/name_m]. It’s a solid, reliable, versatile name. I like that it has a bit of a rugged cowboy vibe to it, and there’s also the [name_f]Star[/name_f] Wars association. [name_u]Whit[/name_u], [name_m]Knox[/name_m], and [name_m]Luke[/name_m] would be perfection.
[name_m]Luke[/name_m] was always a name I liked but never enough to really use. I find the [name_f]Star[/name_f] Wars association fun since I’m a total nerd, and I enjoy biblical names. [name_f]My[/name_f] husband’s absolute favorite name is [name_m]Lucas[/name_m] (which he agrees would probably get shortened to [name_m]Luke[/name_m]). I’ve agreed to let him have [name_m]Lucas[/name_m] if I get [name_m]Henry[/name_m]! If we are blessed enough to have two sons, those will be their names.
I love the name [name_m]Luke[/name_m], it’s classic and has a strong history but it still feels fresh. It is a short simple and very straight forward name which I also love!!!
[name_m]Luke[/name_m] is awesome! It’d be a top contender for this baby except dh’s younger brother is [name_m]Luke[/name_m] so it feels a bit strange to name our son [name_m]Luke[/name_m].
Like you I’ve always loved the name [name_m]Luke[/name_m]. I’ve met several, all of whom have been great guys/men and it’s always been on my list.
It’s infinitely usable, easy to spell and say, great meaning, wonderful namesakes, all around fab name!
If I was truly pregnant it would likely be very high on my list as I doubt my DH would dig most of my more bold names.
Nothing is wrong. [name_m]Luke[/name_m] is a strong and ruggedly handsome Biblical gem that packs a powerful punch in its one-syllable. The only drawback I can see is its popularity in the US at No#37 with 8,922 boys (that doesn’t include all of the boys named [name_m]Lucas[/name_m] who may go by the nn [name_m]Luke[/name_m] - No# 27 with 10,616 boys). You obviously have some very positive associations with the name throughout your life so I should think that would give the name bonus points. If you love the name then I would encourage you to choose it.
