What's Wrong with Paisley?

I’m not going to throw a fit or anything, haha. I just want to see what people think of the name. I’ve seen it thrown out there like its trendy or kind of trashy and I don’t understand why. I know some people say “ley” ending names are trendy, but this isn’t one of those made up, smooshed together names. It’s a legitimate word name. Not even an over the top one. Can anyone explain this to me?

[name]TIA[/name]

It’s a place. I can’t see it as a name. That’s my issue with it.

It’s a place as [name]Ren[/name] said, a pattern I do not find attractive at all and it sounds whiny and annoying. Those are my issues with it.

The first time I saw it used as a name instead of a pattern was on a dog. The second was on Toddlers and Tiaras. By then my impression of it had suffered a bit.

I think Toddlers & Tiaras ruined it & the-[name]Lee[/name] ending is one that people find childish & trendy right now.

I mostly just can’t stand the ugly pattern.

I didn’t know [name]Paisley[/name] was a place and I’ve never seen Toddlers and Tiaras… I also guess I don’t see the lee ending as a problem as I am an adult [name]Kylee[/name] and I’ve never had problems with my name… Hm. I’ll have to ask people I know about how they feel about it. Where is [name]Paisley[/name]?

And, on a side note, I like the [name]Paisley[/name] pattern, haha

It’s not just the ‘ley’ ending, [name]Paisley[/name] also mirrors trendy names like [name]Payton[/name], [name]Paiden[/name], [name]Payson[/name], [name]Paidyn[/name], [name]Payden[/name], [name]Paityn[/name], [name]Palin[/name]. There are a lot of spellings of [name]Paisley[/name] in use and I think name diehards have trouble with variations like [name]Payslee[/name], [name]Paysley[/name], [name]Paysli[/name], [name]Payslie[/name], [name]Paysly[/name], [name]Paislee[/name], [name]Paisleigh[/name], [name]Paisli[/name], [name]Paislie[/name], [name]Paisly[/name]… those are just the ones on Nameberry. There are probably a ton of little girls out there rocking Paeslee, Paesleigh, or Paislynn. It’s hard to take a name serious when it’s been modified so many times. It has also shot up the US popularity charts since it’s appearance on them in 2006. It’s at 195 in 2011 and I wonder if it will continue to climb. It’s popularity will appeal to some and turn off others. Toddlers & Tiaras had a little girl who’s mother dressed her up as [name]Julia[/name] [name]Roberts[/name] from Pretty Woman (you know, the hooker?) and her name was [name]Paisley[/name]. People were so creeped out it made news all over. The mom seemed to love the attention. Group that together with the fact that it is a place/word name and people have even more reason to find fault.

I like the name [name]Paisley[/name], spelled this way for a boy or a girl, but not enough to use it on a child of mine. I also like the name [name]Aisley[/name]. I think that just because [name]Paisley[/name] feels trendy doesn’t mean that it has lost any real substance and if you love it use it. I am a big fan of people using a name that THEY love, not a name everybody else loves. Everybody else will catch up when they fall in love with the child.

[name]Paisley[/name]'s in [name]Scotland[/name]. It’s a gorgeous historical town.

I hate it, sorry. It feels trendy and insubstantial - yes, a lot of that has to do with that dreaded -ley ending, it’s also a very ugly pattern. On top of that is it’s closeness to to other super trendy names P names. It’s only tiny redemption is it’s connection to [name]Scotland[/name] and even then…it’s not THAT much of a redemption, it’s still bad.

Yeah I hate it too… [name]Just[/name] insubstantial as a name… It sounds ditzty and I do t like the [name]Payton[/name] ish, names any ways

I guess I’m the odd one out here, I actually like the name [name]Paisley[/name]. I think it’s cute, and while it is popular I wouldn’t quite call it trendy, it was just a name that was ready made to fit the trends so of course it was going to catch on, but it wasn’t made up to sound trendy it already existed long before the trend did, if that makes sense? And though it does have a million different spellings, that’s what happens to these popular names, but for me it doesn’t make the original name bad. And I like that it’s a place name and I like the paisley pattern, to each his own I guess

I really like [name]Paisley[/name] actually… To me it feels like a fresh name…reminds me of summertime. When i hear it, i don’t think “trendy” or “trashy” at all. And i didn’t know it was a word or place name…when i hear it i associate it with [name]Brad[/name] [name]Paisley[/name], which isn’t a bad thing  anyhow, i’m not sure i would actually use the name for my own child but still i like the name

My issue with [name]Paisley[/name] is by association. I knew one once, she was trashy, ended up pregnant as a teen, which alone doesn’t make someone trashy, but she was a horrible mother, who would rather party and etc than be with her baby. I just couldn’t ever love the name [name]Paisley[/name] after that.

I don’t have a problem with it. There are just some name that people on here on like. I tend to think differently. Most names are trendy. People now are naming children names like [name]Lucille[/name] and [name]Ethel[/name], which were names from my grandparent’s time. These names haven’t really been used in a generation, so were they not trendy, and now they are the new trend. Most on here will disagree, but I think most names are trendy. Some say they can’t picture an adult named [name]Paisley[/name], but I can’t picture a child named [name]Edith[/name]. [name]Just[/name] me though

I really appreciate all of your comments, guys. I guess it’s just one of those things that people can’t agree on. None of the issues people throw out there with [name]Paisley[/name] bother me in the slightest, so I guess they don’t really matter, haha. The [name]Payton[/name], etc. trend isn’t popular where I live, nor is the ley-ending trend. Maybe that’s why I don’t get it. Thanks so much again

I know the sweetest little [name]Paisley[/name], named after the Scottish town. They went to Europe on their Honeymoon. I find it sweet.

I think [name]Paisley[/name] is fine even though it is trendy. It is a surname, town name and word name which fits right in with a lot of other trendy names right now. I find that it has a nice ring to it. It is not my cup of tea, but I don’t find anything really wrong with it either. I don’t watch Toddler’s and Tiaras or other crap tv shows, so that hasn’t altered my opinion of the name or other names with the ley endings. Some very classic and lovely names end in an ley, ly or lie endings, like [name]Emily[/name], [name]Julie[/name], [name]Nathalie[/name], [name]Lily[/name].

For me, it’s mainly the sound. Slightly nasally— like [name]Ainsley[/name].

I like names like [name]Kiri[/name] and [name]Linden[/name], [name]Hailey[/name] and (even) Brynley along with [name]Estella[/name] and [name]Susannah[/name], [name]Clio[/name] and [name]Callista[/name] (so it’s not that I only like "old lady names  ). I just don’t like the way the name [name]Paisley[/name] sounds

Thats part of it, too - the “slee” sound it just not attractive.
