I am expecting a third boy in [name]May[/name] and I’m really liking the name [name]Quincy[/name], nn [name]Quinn[/name]. Big brothers names are [name]Oliver[/name] and [name]Miles[/name]. I posted a few weeks ago asking for opinions about [name]Quincy[/name] and some of the other names we are considering. I did not get a lot of love for [name]Quincy[/name] in the feedback which is ok, I realize it’s not everyone’s style… What surprised me though was that people felt that [name]Quincy[/name] is not a great sib match for [name]Oliver[/name] and [name]Miles[/name]… I always kind of thought of these names in the same vintagy sort of category… So my question is, what is it about [name]Quincy[/name] that people don’t like? Too unisex? Too posh? Nerdy?
I like [name]Quincy[/name], and to me it does fit into the same naming style as [name]Oliver[/name] and [name]Miles[/name]. All three are a little old-fashioned (which is a good thing in my books) and very distinguished. Go for it! I think it’s a good choice
I wasn’t part of the previous discussion and though I like [name]Quincy[/name], I can see why other people might not. However, while reading your post, before I even got to the question, my first thought was “[name]Quincy[/name] would fit perfectly with siblings [name]Oliver[/name] and [name]Miles[/name].” So, um, I’m as perplexed as you. Seems like exactly the same style.
I really like just [name]Quinn[/name] with [name]Oliver[/name] and [name]Miles[/name]!
I adore [name]Quincy[/name], but DH ain’t having it. He felt it was too fussy, too prim. I think it could be excellent as a middle name - you’d get the Q initial, the presidential feeling, the connection to fruit trees. With [name]Miles[/name] and [name]Oliver[/name], [name]Quincy[/name] DOES take the sibset into seriously posh territory. I think if you went with something just slightly more down-to-earth it could play down the poshness of [name]Miles[/name] and [name]Ollie[/name].
[name]Otis[/name] [name]Quincy[/name]
[name]Albert[/name] [name]Quincy[/name]
[name]Lucius[/name] [name]Quincy[/name]
[name]James[/name] [name]Quincy[/name]
[name]Nicholas[/name] [name]Quincy[/name]
[name]Cole[/name] [name]Quincy[/name]
I agree, [name]Quincy[/name] goes really well with your other names, they all have the same vintage style. If you like it, then go with it!
Those are three of my favorite names for boys! Absolutely nothing wrong with that sibset.
So I like [name]Quincy[/name] but I’m not huge on the [name]Oliver[/name], [name]Miles[/name] and [name]Quincy[/name] sib-set.
Here is why:
[name]Oliver[/name] and [name]Miles[/name] are both very clean names that have common words as part of their root ([name]Olive[/name] and Mile).
[name]Quincy[/name] feels a bit fussier and reminds me of [name]Quince[/name] Paste (aka Membrillo - honestly there is nothing not fussy about that).
Also the Q and the O are visually too similar for me and I always find it odd to have two siblings with the same first letter and then one that sticks out.
Thank you so much for all of the responses! Most of you have confirmed my feeling about the sib set. Now to convince my husband!
@mandyb - I also love just [name]Quinn[/name] but I worry that it’s become a “girls name” with the popularity of Glee…
@lexiem - I have never heard of either quince paste or Membrillo, maybe because I’m in [name]Canada[/name]? I have no issue with the visual similarity of “O” and “Q” since they obviously sound very different. So those are not really problematic for me
It seems you may have already gotten enough of an answer, but I would just like to say that [name]Quincy[/name], [name]Oliver[/name], and [name]Miles[/name] makes perfect sense to me. I consider all three to be “softer” boys names (as opposed to heavy names like [name]Richard[/name] and [name]Frederick[/name]).
I never cared for [name]Quincy[/name] much because I do feel that the -cy ending is a little feminine (it makes me think of [name]Nancy[/name], and even pansy, and seems like it could have teasing potential. With that said, it still fits perfectly with [name]Oliver[/name] and [name]Miles[/name].
First off I want to say I [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Quincy[/name], and in no way want to discourage you from using it But (there’s always a but isn’t there…) I could see where others might say its kind of a mismatched sibset and here’s my reason, I know [name]Oliver[/name] is #23 in BC [name]Canada[/name] right now and I know [name]Miles[/name] is just under the top 100 in the US so they’re both pretty popular and while they have feminine counter parts on the girls popularity charts, they are both distinctly masculine. [name]Quincy[/name] on the other hand is #588 on US popularity charts and [name]Quinn[/name] is #188 on the girls side and #297 on the boys. So [name]Quincy[/name] is markedly less popular than your other boys’ names and people might not be as familiar with it and is nn [name]Quinn[/name] at the moment is more popular for girls than boys. That’s why the sibset seems slightly mismatched.
That being said I love [name]Quincy[/name] so much and if it weren’t for popularity and the unisex feel of [name]Quinn[/name], I think [name]Quincy[/name], [name]Miles[/name] and [name]Oliver[/name] would make great brothers. (Truthfully I do think they make great brothers, but that wouldn’t have answered your question if I just told you that would it ;))
Although [name]Quincy[/name] is not my style, when you listed that big brothers’ names were [name]Oliver[/name] and [name]Miles[/name], my first thought was that would go well together! I am surprised that people felt they didn’t.
