what are they? would you use them either way? maybe as a middle name? or brave enouh for first?
aiden. i freaking [name]LOVE[/name] this name. it makes me sad that it is so very popular.
addison. i don’t know why i like it so much, but it calls to me. but again, too popular for me to actually use.
[name]Skyler[/name]
[name]Persephone[/name]! I love it! But I’m so scared people will call her “Purse Phone”!- I will most likely use this as a middle name, maybe [name]Lydia[/name] [name]Persephone[/name].
[name]Camden[/name]- love it but its too trendy.
I’m sure I have more, I’ll get back to you!
tuppence…tuppy for short ( girls )
i love it but i dont know if i could use it xo
I like [name]Brandy[/name] and Roseana because of the songs, but they’re too popular to use, imho.
I like [name]James[/name] as a boy, but every other boy/man I meet is named [name]James[/name], [name]Jamie[/name], [name]Jimmy[/name], or [name]Jim[/name]
[name]Lulu[/name]-So cute! But I could never go there. I also love [name]Louisa[/name], though. So I can see myself using it as a nn.
For a boy:
- Maclyn. It’s the name of this brilliant biologist, but I’m afraid it might be pronounced wrong. It’s said muh-klin, but I know people will say it like it’s spelled, mac-lyn. I actually think I would use it because I really love it. But I might change the spelling to Maclin because I think the Y is a little too feminine. I love it.
- [name]Atlas[/name]. I think this name is wonderful, and I love Greek mythology. My only concern is that it would be tough for a boy to pull off. I would use it as a middle for sure, though.
- [name]Denver[/name]. It’s where I’m from and where I’ve spent 10 years of my life (so almost all of my life). I love [name]Denver[/name], both the place and name, but I couldn’t bring myself to use it as a first name. Maybe a middle name, though.
For a girl:
- [name]Jaden[/name]. I know, I know, I can hear the collective gasp right now. I just really adore the name for a little girl. I think it’s so cute and, in a bizarre way, it means something to me. But no, I would never use it.
- [name]Gemma[/name]. I love this name so much. I guess it’s not really guilty pleasure name, but my mom hates it, and right now her name opinion is the only significant one to me.
- [name]Henrietta[/name]. [name]Love[/name] it. And I love and adore the nickname Haddie (see below), but my mom says it’s horrid. I wouldn’t use it because I think it’s too much name.
- Haddie. I adore this name so much. My mom also doesn’t really like it, bur for this name, I don’t care. I would most definitely use it because I think it’s wonderful.
[name]Atticus[/name].
I’m a big To Kill A Mockingbird fan, but I’d never be able to name a son this… I’d be too worried about him getting teased!
[name]Antoinette[/name]: too [name]Marie[/name] [name]Antoinette[/name]?
[name]Olivia[/name]: too popular
[name]Sophia[/name]: same
[name]Seraphina[/name]: too trendy?
[name]Noah[/name]: too popular…
Good topic. I have several of these, including:
Pegasus (a ridiculous name that could get me to the nn [name]Peg[/name] better than [name]Pegeen[/name] or [name]Peggy[/name] could)
[name]Phaedra[/name] (it sounds like a bizarre urban version of [name]Phoebe[/name])
[name]Angus[/name] (just love it, but it sounds like a cartoon character Scrooge McDuck would be friends with)
[name]Fletcher[/name] (adorable, but feels painfully geeky to me)
[name]Wylie[/name] (yes, I know respectable people have used this, including my beloved [name]Richard[/name] [name]Dean[/name] [name]Anderson[/name], but…I just couldn’t do it; I look down on people who use their kids’ names for jokes, puns or humor)
[name]Abigail[/name] and [name]Olivia[/name]
[name]Jacob[/name] and [name]Daniel[/name]
These are lovely names, but so popular.
GIRLS
I really don’t think that I’d have the guts to use [name]Ghislaine[/name], Gloriana, [name]Leocadia[/name], Madelief, or [name]Zenaida[/name]. Maybe as middle names, if they’re in the right combo. At the moment, though, many of my first name favorites are already relatively “out there”…
For many, [name]Edith[/name] brings to mind Mrs. Bunker. Same with [name]Allegra[/name] and allergy medcation, [name]Jemima[/name] with slavery and syrup.
[name]Isabella[/name], [name]Olivia[/name], [name]Sophia[/name], [name]Audrey[/name], are pretty, but way too popular for me to use.
I love flower names, but I (highly) doubt that I would use [name]Tulip[/name]. Hmm… Maybe [name]Tullia[/name] nicknamed [name]Tulip[/name]?
Being the world’s most impatient person, I would be a huge hypocrite if I used the name [name]Patience[/name], wouldn’t I?
Same applies to [name]Grace[/name], though that falls under the “too popular” category, as well.
BOYS
I like [name]Barnaby[/name], but I wouldn’t want to risk [name]Barney[/name] as a nickname.
[name]William[/name], [name]Henry[/name], [name]James[/name], [name]Joseph[/name], [name]Oliver[/name], [name]Nathaniel[/name] and some others are too popular for me.
There are fewer boys’ guilty pleasures because I like fewer boys names.
[name]Eulalia[/name]: Beautiful name, a little more adventurous than I think I could actually use, and also the conflict that it is a war cry in one of my favorite book series
[name]Mariposa[/name]: [name]Love[/name] that it means butterfly, and it feels very feminine. But every time I think of [name]Mariposa[/name] [name]Barbie[/name]; also zero Spanish ties in my family makes it seem a bit out of place.
[name]Elizabella[/name]: Feels horribly thrown together like someone just couldn’t decide, but I like it anyway.
[name]Edmund[/name]: [name]Love[/name] the slightly nerdy but could still be cool feel to this name. Guilty pleasure because theres no way hubbie will be swayed on this one.
[name]Antoinette[/name]: So beautiful, so classic. I just worry that people would mispronounce it or just think of [name]Marie[/name] [name]Antoinette[/name], although I don’t believe it’s a bad association!
[name]Ophelia[/name]: I read a post where someone said all they heard when they heard [name]Ophelia[/name] was the prefixiies Hem- or Ped- in front of it. Totally tainted my image of the name, yet I still think it’s
beautiful!
[name]Jemima[/name]: Bad associations to many people but I really like this name
[name]Lux[/name]: Cool name, good middle name but I wonder if it sounds trashy?
[name]Anastasia[/name]: [name]LOVE[/name]! But is it just too much?!?
I’ve loved [name]Emily[/name] since I was a little girl, but it is way too popular now.
[name]Lula[/name] is a new favourite, but I don’t think it would age well and I don’t really like any of the long names that could be shortened to [name]Lula[/name].
[name]Emily[/name]- one of my favorites for as long as I can remember
[name]Chanel[/name]- … I doubt my significant other would let me name our daughter after [name]Coco[/name] [name]Chanel[/name]!
[name]Margarita[/name]- it is the name of a flower in Spanish! But, also an alcoholic bevarage and one I particularly love so I wouldnt want my daughter to have that association.
[name]Joanna[/name]- very similar to my first name so maybe it is a little narcisistic?
[name]Isabel[/name]- I love it but it might be too trendy by now. Besides, in Puerto [name]Rico[/name] it seems to have become the IT middle name. It is like the marie or [name]Ann[/name] of my generation (I was born in the 80s)
[name]Perla[/name]
[name]Eleanor[/name]- looove it but wouldnt work so well in Spanish
Girls:
[name]Ophelia[/name] (my husband keeps saying [name]Ophelia[/name] Booty, [name]Ophelia[/name] Boobies)
[name]Juno[/name] (way too out there)
Boys:
[name]Cecil[/name] (my grandfather’s name, but everyone I know hates it)
[name]Thor[/name] (impossible to live up to, but I love it)
[name]Ekaterina[/name]
[name]Way[/name] too many syllables for me and completely different style from my other kids. It’s just gorgeous though. Same with [name]Katia[/name].
Elfinflower: Okay, not a serious suggestion but my mum told me stories with a little fairy named Elifnflower in them and I love the sound.
