What's your impression of Clare?

This is kind of an odd question, but when you hear the name [name_u]Clare[/name_u], what type of impression does the name give you? What do you think a [name_u]Clare[/name_u] is like?

I love [name_u]Clare[/name_u]/[name_f]Claire[/name_f]. I picture a down-to-earth woman/girl, good-natured. For me, the name has spunk and sweetness. I picture someone that is fun-loving, kind-hearted.

I love [name_f]Claire[/name_f]. I’ve known a few, with varied personalities, but for the most part I picture someone cheerful and sweet. I don’t like the [name_u]Clare[/name_u] spelling as much, possibly because it’s only one letter off from glare, which makes it less cheerful and sweet sounding to me. I also love [name_f]Clara[/name_f], [name_f]Clarice[/name_f] and [name_f]Clary[/name_f] (probably only as a nickname though)

I know someone who spells it [name_u]Clare[/name_u] who is a mum of four (and all her children are named wonderfully!) and she’s a lovely, kind-hearted person. She’s sweet, athletic and pretty too. Because of this, this is what I associate with [name_u]Clare[/name_u].

With [name_f]Claire[/name_f] on the other hand, it’s a lot different. The only [name_f]Claire[/name_f] I know isn’t a very nice person. She thinks highly of herself and I just don’t like her.

Of course, this is just my own impression of the name and if I try and block out the nasty [name_f]Claire[/name_f], [name_u]Clare[/name_u]/[name_f]Claire[/name_f] itself is a nice name with an airy, delicate feel about it. [name_m]Just[/name_m] a shame someone ruined the [name_f]Claire[/name_f] spelling for me!

I think of a tall, blonde, classy woman. Quiet but nice. Somewhat wealthy.

I love the name, but prefer [name_f]Claire[/name_f]. [name_m]Light[/name_m], fresh, pretty. Classic. Educated. Well off. Parents are discerning, conservative in taste.

I’m 30, in the UK and I’ve known dozens of [name_u]Clare[/name_u]'s/[name_f]Claire[/name_f]'s my own age and older. I think it’s a lovely name, I get no negative preconceptions when I hear it, it’s just a bit boring after being so common.

If I heard it on an under 10, though, I’d be excited. It’s rare now and I think it sounds beautiful and fresh without being marred by overuse.

My only concern for [name_u]Clare[/name_u] would be the next generation seeing it as a dated name. A mum name, and unattractive on their peers. I hope not though.

Thanks so much! I love to hear people’s impressions of names- and to see if they match my own.

I love [name_u]Clare[/name_u]. It’s one of my favourite names. A lot more classic and refined than [name_f]Claire[/name_f], in my opinion. I picture a nice and friendly girl/teen/woman/elderly woman.
