What's your opinion on the name Chantelle?

I love it, but it kind of reminds me of mushrooms lol!

It reminds me of that old song “[name_f]Chantilly[/name_f] lace” lol

It seems a bit dated to me but it IS lovely. I would love it in the middle spot… Suggestions -

My opinion is that the name [name_f]Chantal[/name_f]/[name_f]Chantel[/name_f] is very pretty. It isn’t modern, but doesn’t sound totally dated either. The spelling [name_f]Chantelle[/name_f] is too much and a bit tacky.

I knew a really nice popular girl with that name once. To me it gives off good vibes, it’s a nice name and not too common.

Its considered a really trashy name over here and is considered pretty 90’s too. Sorry I really dislike it [name_f]Chantal[/name_f] is much better.

I have mixed feelings. Sounds a little bit like a stripper name to me at first but I like that it is not so trendy/popular and quite feminine. Id prefer [name_f]Chantel[/name_f] spelling

It’s rather trashy. When I hear names like that, I think of rundown trailer parks and 40-something women with badly bleached hair and pierced, flabby bellies bared by midriff shirts.

I’m sure it’ll be a pretty name once more in 100 years or so, when that association stops being perpetuated by Hollywood, but that’s what it is to me (and many others I know). For me, the association is so bad that I cringe whenever I hear/see the name.

In Germany, the alternate spelling [name_f]Chantal[/name_f] is the ultimate low class name, to the point that naming a female child a made up or trashy name is called Chantalismus (Chantalism), the male equivalent is called Kevinismus (Kevinism). So for me, it’s just too close to this super negative association.

It’s my mom’s middle name, so it feels a bit dated to me.

I like it because it’s the name of my first ever (female) best friend. We don’t talk at all now, but it brings back good memories :). It’s a nice name.

Wow we have some harsh comments here!

Where I live, [name_f]Chantelle[/name_f]/[name_f]Chantal[/name_f] is rather popular, and in no way trashy (the names that others seem to see as ‘trashy’ here are [name_f]Chastity[/name_f], [name_f]Hope[/name_f], [name_m]Jackson[/name_m]/[name_m]Jaxon[/name_m], [name_f]Autumn[/name_f], etc). I think [name_f]Chantelle[/name_f] is actually quite pretty, and, seeing as though I was born in the 1990s, and I’ve never once met one my age (I’ve personally known 3, one born in 1999 or sooner, one born in 2006, and one born in the 1980s), so I don’t see it as a 90’s name either.

I think [name_f]Chantelle[/name_f] is very pretty, and I also think these answers based on stereotypes of lower classes are a bit tiresome.

[name_f]Chantelle[/name_f] is alright, but I think there are enough names floating around right now with -elle endings. That might make [name_f]Chantelle[/name_f] more appealing to some, who knows.

I love [name_f]Chantal[/name_f], though. It’s the name of a dear friend of mine, and she’s such a lovely person that you can’t help but love the name, too. She makes the name very dainty, classy, and feminine to my ears.

Haha. Its tiresome? Didnt you just list names you felt are trashy? I guess it is tiresome when you don’t agree…

As for the name, its not for me. It feels like its trying too hard to b feminine. I feel that with a lot of -elle names.

Not at all, actually. Those names are VIEWED as “trashy” in my area - I never once said that’s how I felt, and I’d be lying if I said I found them trashy, because really, I quite like the name [name_f]Hope[/name_f], and the name [name_f]Autumn[/name_f] I worked in a daycare centre however, for a college work placement, and from the general impression amongst co-workers, who were all between 21 and 50, was that the children with those names came from “trashy” families. Personally, I found it disgusting, and it was one of the many reasons I left the placement 6 weeks before the end of the term. Perhaps I didn’t say it in a clear enough manner. I just get sick of seeing comments about names being ‘trashy’ because often, I find my own name and my sister’s name appearing in those lists, and it gets a bit offensive. So no, it isn’t ‘tiresome’ when I don’t agree, and no, I don’t feel as though those names are trashy, I just didn’t explain my point clearly enough.

[name_f]EDIT[/name_f]: I’ve now fixed my post to make it more obvious that it is not me who finds those names trashy. Sorry for the confusion

I agree with this.

I think [name_f]Chantelle[/name_f] is just ok, I think it is viewed as trashy/lower class in my area though too. I also feel its a bit dated as this name was more popular in the 80s/early 90s.

I prefer [name_f]Chantal[/name_f]. It’s pronouiced the same, but I just like this spelling more.
