When did you find out it was twins? + when were they born

[name]Hi[/name] momberries.
I am 28 weeks today, and only last Thursday (at my third ultrasound) did i find out it was twins. I was completely shocked and to find out so late was mind blowing! Its interesting because i haven’t noticed that im bigger than my 1st pregnancy, i look and feel the same i did with my first when i was at this point.
My question is for the mom’s/mum’s who have twins or multiples, how far along were when you found out?

Also i would love to know how many weeks you were when they were born? Im new to this but what i was told was that twins can be born anywhere from 32 weeks on, and there is a statistic that say usually more than half of twin births will be before the 37 week mark.

Im really just curious, and now im thinking i have a little less time to organize things that i thought i did.

Look forward to hearing from you.
Thanks

I am expecting my second set of twins. With my first set I found out a six weeks, with this set I found out at ten weeks. I had early ultrasounds both times due to bleeding. My first set were born at 34 weeks. I was really lucky to get them there as I went into preterm labour at 29 weeks. Twins on average are born at 35 weeks but if you are able to carry them longer the doctor will not let you carry them longer than 38 weeks. 28 weeks is really late to find out, it doesn’t give you much time to plan! Best of luck!

I am a twin and my brother and I were born 3 weeks early (37 weeks), which is really good for twins, so I’m told. I’m not sure when my mom found out, though.

My aunt has had two sets of twins. With the first set, she found out in her first trimester. With the second set, she found out in her third trimester. Set one was born two or three weeks early and set two was born full term. All four boys were perfectly healthy. From what I’ve heard and read that’s all relatively unusual…

ETA: To clarify, with the second set, one boy was hiding behind the other which is why the tech never saw the second baby until the third trimester.

I don’t have twins but have heard it’s unusual to find out so late, but possible. Sometimes one twin really is just hiding behind the other, match that up with limited number of ultrasounds and there you go. Better you found out at 28weeks than delivery day, like that tv show!

I am currently pregnant twins and found out at first u/s

[name]How[/name] far along were you when you had the first ultrasound norseberry? Was that scheduled for some reason or does your midwife do that as part of her routine screening? I know alot of people don’t require ultrasounds early in the pregnancy.

Wow I can’t believe you didn’t find out until 28 weeks! Due to us having to do fertility treatments we had a routine ultrasound to check for multiples at 8 weeks and sure enough it was twins! This is my second and last pregnancy, three children is all I can handle, lol! I am almost 20 weeks, I will be having a scheduled c-section in early [name]January[/name] unless they decide they want to come sooner. My doctor said he likes to deliver twins between 36 and 38 weeks. Best of luck to you!

We found out at 13 weeks (Huge shock!- none of the “risk factors”) and carried them until 37+1. We would have been induced at 38 weeks as that is the norm where we live. I was on modified bed rest for the last 10 weeks or so due to early strong contractions.

My dad knows someone who found out that they were having twins in the delivery room! (And it wasn’t that long ago- it was in the 90s so there was definitely ultrasound technology!)

Best of luck and if you want to vent or have any questions feel free to ask! It seems like there is a good group of twin moms here that would be happy to help! (I’m also on a twin moms facebook group. If you want to join let me know! It is a GREAT support system.)

Was almost 13 weeks… It was a routine screening for. She was checking the heartbeat and heard two! Never will forget it. Such a shock to us.

Hello I am new here, but just wanted to chime in. We have been trying for a lot 3 years and are now pregnant with twins. We knew getting into the IVF that there was a chance of twins, so when we had our 8 week check up we were told it’s twins. We weren’t so shocked since we knew what we were getting into, but still it is a blessing.

I found out at 22 weeks. I know it’s a bit late, but my babes never want to co operate for the tech so why should they be any different.

Im a twin myself, and my mum found out around 12 weeks, I think! I am expecting b/g twins at the end of [name]November[/name]-ish and I found out around 8 weeks. Good luck!

I’m currently expecting twins, and I found out about them at my first doctor’s appointment at around 8 weeks. Where I currently live (in eastern Europe) it’s standard to have an u/s at every single appointment if you’re getting your care at a private clinic/hopsital. This means I’ve been scanned about five or six times already, although I’m only at about 23 weeks and there are no complications being monitored. Anyhow, with all of the frequent u/s I’ve been having, the idea of not finding out that you’re having twins until so late in the pregnancy seems really strange!

According to my doctor, 37 weeks is considered full term for twins, but the average twin pregnancy lasts only 35-36 weeks.
