You can save yourself a lot of money by waiting until your period is late, which is when most tests say they’re accurate from. But obviously not everyone has the patience to do that (me included!)
It depends on the sensitivity of the test. First Response [name_u]Early[/name_u] Results (FRER) are the most sensitive on the market; they detect levels of the pregnancy hormone from around 6miu/ml, so a couple of days after implantation (which usually happens around 6-10DPO).
Most dollar store tests detect around 20-50miu/ml, which means you’d need to wait an extra few days for a positive to show. Digitals are generally less sensitive too, but they take the guesswork out of the result.
Personally, I tested at what I thought was 10DPO with my latest pregnancy and got a faint positive on an internet cheapie test with a 10miu/ml sensitivity. As it happens, my [name_m]EDD[/name_m] was moved forward 4 days at my dating scan, so supposedly I got a positive at 6DPO. I think my baby just grew slightly quicker than average, because that seems crazy early. Similar happened with my son — tested positive around 10DPO, but dates later changed to make it earlier. And with my daughter, I didn’t get a positive until what I thought was 6 weeks (!), although my due date was moved back 10 days at the scan so more like 4 weeks as the (supermarket) test suggested.
TL;DR In my opinion, you’re wasting your money testing any earlier than 10DPO, and if you choose to test that early, make sure it’s a super sensitive one like a FRER.
I’ve had 2 pregnancies before, both ending in miscarriages. I tested at 4 weeks and 3 days with the first, then 3 weeks and 5 days with the second. I’ve been ttc for months since these both happened in [name_f]April[/name_f] then again in [name_u]June[/name_u] but no luck.
I don’t want to waste anymore money on tests so I think I’ll definitely wait this time. I’m due my period in 2-3 days anyway so not long to wait. Fingers crossed.
I usually waited until I period was late. I found if I started earlier, I would stress more and be seeing lines on tests that weren’t there. Waiting for the day my period was due was hard because I was always so tempted to test but at least I would have more chance of seeing something if I actually was pregnant.
I got a BFP at 9 days post ovulation, before my period was late. I was taking my Basal Body Temperature so I knew the exact day I ovulated. That’s really early though so unless you tracked your O day I would wait til a day after your period is late. Good luck!
The earliest positive I have gotten was at 8dpo. But I would recommend waiting. I only get positives so early because I track, temp and feel implantation pain. I know I am pregnant before a test shows it.
I used the ClinicalGuard pregnancy test strips and got them in bulk on Amazon so I could take several tests. I took a pregnancy test 12 days after I got a positive (a smiley face) on the ClearBlue ovulation test. It was a VERY faint line so I didn’t really believe it at first but the line got darker when I took more tests over the following days. I would definitely recommend those!
