When is a name "too long"?

[name_f]My[/name_f] fiance and I are really starting to like [name_f]Imogen[/name_f] [name_f]Marjorie[/name_f] [name_f]Renee[/name_f] for our girl’s name, but I’m concerned about the length. I had originally wanted a shorter 1st middle and I was trying to avoid names with too many Rs since my son wound up with a very R heavy name (Arthur Robert) and I knew we wanted [name_f]Renee[/name_f] to honor my MIL. But while exploring a middle name with “Jo” in it but not beginning with it to strengthen the nickname of Mojo my fiance wants to use, I considered [name_f]Marjorie[/name_f] in the middle name place for the first time ever (I loved it as a first name but how R heavy [name_u]Arthur[/name_u] & [name_f]Marjorie[/name_f] is bothers me) I agree with the berries that replied to the post that Mojo is intuitive enough with [name_f]Imogen[/name_f] alone; but I really like how [name_f]Imogen[/name_f] [name_f]Marjorie[/name_f] [name_f]Renee[/name_f] sounds.

[name_f]Imogen[/name_f] [name_f]Marjorie[/name_f] [name_f]Renee[/name_f] S__ton ---- Which makes for 25 letters total, 10 syllables.

Is that too much? I know for legality in my area it’d be just fine and my childhood best friend had a 31 letter full name. But I don’t remember if she had any issues with or reservations about her long name. [name_f]My[/name_f] son’s name is 23 letters, but his 2nd middle is my maiden name and part of his hyphenated last name that will be moved legally after I marry his dad, so I haven’t experienced doing paperwork with 2 middle names and I worry about it a bit.

I do also wonder if this will get the “wow that’s a mouthful” comments and be burdensome.

I don’t think it’s too long at all. [name_f]My[/name_f] daughter has a pretty lengthy full name though. (In my usercard for reference) It hasn’t been a problem for us. Her middles are honors.
Btw one of my sons has the same first and middle as yours! His middle is also an honor.

[name_f]Imogen[/name_f] is adorable and I think the full name sounds really nice together. I’d go with what you love.

[name_f]My[/name_f] name is a similar length and syllable count (though I only have one middle name), and it’s always been fine. I’ve had a few “wow, that’s a lot of name” comments, but not enough to be truly bothersome. Most people don’t know my full name anyway!

Oh that’s cool! Great taste haha I love Jasper too but my grandma I love dearly hated it for some reason and my fiance just said “two names ending in R might be confusing.” So I gave up on it lol Hugo has really grown on me though if we have another boy.

Edit - I already mix up Arthur and my cat Winter so my fiance is probably right in my case

never, a name can never be to long unless it’s like seven middle names, then it’s to long.

I think it’s beautiful! and it goes really well with Arthur’s name

I don’t think it’s too long! It sound nice and goes well with Arthur’s name. [name_f]My[/name_f] grandpa has four middle names and it works.

I hope my name will help you feel better about your (absolutely gorgeous) choice.

In full, my name is also 25 letters. It is 9 syllables. I adore my name!!! And I would absolutely be bummed without any of my four names. It has never been a paperwork or legal hassle. It’s only ever been a sourde of joy, love, and pride in what my parents gave me!

In the US, 10 characters. That’s when it doesn’t fit on forms anymore. [name_f]My[/name_f] dad is named Chr1st0ph3r and has been “Christophe” on paperwork his entire life.

[name_f]My[/name_f] son’s names have 29 and 25 letters. [name_f]My[/name_f] daughter has 24. They each have two middles because I chose to keep the names given by their birth parents when I adopted them. But usually they just go by their first and middle and I’ve not written out their whole names since they were infants. So I really don’t think it matters much!

[name_m]Solomon[/name_m] [name_m]Rolando[/name_m] [name_m]Christopher[/name_m]
[name_f]Felicity[/name_f] [name_f]Bella[/name_f] [name_u]Nichole[/name_u]
[name_m]Theodore[/name_m] [name_u]Daniel[/name_u] [name_u]Timothy[/name_u]

They all flow and I love them!

Not too long at all! Rolls easily off the tongue and seems fine to me. For what it’s worth, there are kids at the school where I work with four middles, kids with long names and multiple surnames. Most of the time she’d just be [name_f]Imogen[/name_f] S___ton anyway

I’m a double middle namer and my take is this: most of the time people are known as [first name] [surname]. What happens in the middle is just for fun  two middle names isn’t too many to be putting on forms and what have you, and if they’re both important/beautiful to you then I say go for it.

If it were any longer I’d say it was bordering on too long, but I think it’s fine, especially since when you say it out loud it flows nicely so it doesn’t sound as long as it is. In the event that someone does comment on it being “too long”, I think they’d understand once you explained why you chose it, since you have some pretty solid reasons for it and it’s not like you were trying to make it long just for the sake of it.

Honestly, the length doesn’t seem problematic to me, but I personally find [name_f]Imogen[/name_f] [name_f]Marjorie[/name_f] [name_f]Renee[/name_f] awkward to pronounce… it just doesn’t roll off the tongue very easily. I think it’s the combination of similar sounds (“mogen” - “marjor”), plus the three Rs together.

I agree with others that you could get the nickname “Mojo” straight from [name_f]Imogen[/name_f], so personally, I’d vote for just [name_f]Imogen[/name_f] [name_f]Renee[/name_f], which is super lovely & elegant!

I think it varies by state. Which state are you located?

He lives in Hawai’i

[name_f]Imogen[/name_f] and [name_u]Arthur[/name_u] match really well. Personally I think think it is a little bit long and a bit of a mouthful adding both those particular middle names (though they are both lovely). I’d pick the one you like most, or another middle name that honours you or your family. [name_u]Or[/name_u] could [name_f]Mary[/name_f] work as a way to combine [name_f]Marjorie[/name_f] and [name_f]Renee[/name_f]? Having said that, agree with others that if you really LOVE both then definitely go with it.

I really don’t think it’s an issue at all! [name_f]My[/name_f] full name is 34 letters, 12 syllables and it’s never caused any problems for me!

It’s not too long! Full disclosure, I love long names - but I stand by what I said. Not too long! Worst case scenario, she has to drop a middle once in a while to fit on a form. It’s not going to do her any damage. I say keep both, if it has meaning to you and you like it. It’s a beautiful name

That is interesting, as Hawai’i has some of the most lax naming laws in the United States! You can legally have as many characters as you like, including diacritics and symbols. I suppose it goes to show that laws aren’t always reflected in forms

Diacritics are pretty necessary there (especially the macron) for cultural reasons.
