When you knew it was "the one"

Tell me about the moment when you found a name and knew it was “the one”

I met a little [name_f]Sarai[/name_f] when I was 14 and on work experience at a school [name_f][/name_f]- honestly, best thing to come out of those two weeks [name_f][/name_f] I had never heard it before and it just immediately clicked in my head as a favourite

Weirdly I’ve been thinking about this question recently! Because I had a moment of realisation that our current frontrunner names are not necessarily the ones I would choose all on my own, in my wildest dreams. Instead they are the names that were already high on the list for me but then my other half also got invested in them. It’s become a collaborative thing. Eg. our current top boy name was in my top five but it wasn’t[name_f][/name_f] number one, until I came up with a silly nickname for it which my husband loves, and now it’s our favourite name together[name_f][/name_f] and we actively use it when talking about our future kids.

[name_f][/name_f]

One way I know a name is ‘right’ for my list when it has layers of multiple meanings for me. Eg. [name_f]Rosalba[/name_f] connects the white roses in my wedding bouquet to my bridesmaids who both had ‘rose’ in their names, and an artist who has meaning for me.

[name_f][/name_f]

On the other hand, I read a kids’ book with a character named [name_f]Tabitha[/name_f] when I was about ten years old and now that’s 100% going to be my daughter’s name if I have one! I’ve just always loved it and carried it with me. [name_m]Even[/name_m] though it means ‘gazelle’

[name_f]My[/name_f] friend suggested it when I was pregnant with my son. I already liked the name for a girl but had never considered changing the spelling and using it for a boy. It instantly made me smile. I told my husband who also loved it. I considered whether it was a name that my son would like to have, and I realized that my little family’s opinion of the name is the only one that mattered to me, nobody else’s. As a people pleaser, that’s how I really knew it was “the one”.

What a wonderful question!! These replies are so heartwarming! :face_holding_back_tears:[name_f][/name_f] :yellow_heart:

For me, “the one” (for a boy, at least!)[name_f][/name_f] is [name_m]Valemon[/name_m], and I have known ever since I was a child and heard the fairy tale White-Bear-King-Valemon[name_f][/name_f] for the first time that I wanted to use the name someday for my son, either as a first or middle, and I still hope to do so!! He is one of the dearest names to me in all the world! :slightly_smiling_face:

I agree, this is a really beautiful question. :sparkles:

[name_f]Dahlia[/name_f] has been a special name to me for a long time [name_f][/name_f]- definitely since I was in middle school, or around about that time. I grew up in the south of [name_m]New[/name_m] [name_m]Zealand[/name_m], where the weather is almost never warm [name_f][/name_f]- autumn, winter, and spring are filled with frosty days below freezing, although in summer we’d get some nice days above 15 degrees!

[name_f][/name_f]

There was a huge garden right by my house [name_f][/name_f]- it was a public garden and the custodian for it had a great fondness of dahlias. I would wait eagerly every spring for them to bloom. Oftentimes, I would check after school, and there would be none there, and then the next day, they will have all bloomed overnight!

[name_f][/name_f]

I’ve never quite been sure why[name_f][/name_f] the name resonates so much with me, but I think it has something to do with my childhood excitement of watching the dahlias grow each year. I live in a significantly warmer climate now, so perhaps I should grow my own!

Here’s some pictures from about eight years ago one spring when the flowers started to bloom:

This one is extra special because [name_f]Christine[/name_f] is my second favourite name, and my mother’s name! Unfortunately it was not blooming when I took the photo!

I’m currently in limbo if [name_f]Isabelle[/name_f] is “the one” anymore, so I’ll do my boy’s name instead

I don’t even remember when [name_m]Caspar[/name_m] first started to be on my radar… I know about 15 years ago it was one of my best friend’s names for her triplets she was expecting. [name_f][/name_f] If she had had three boys, one of them would have been [name_m]Caspar[/name_m] (she ended up having two girls and a boy, and didn’t use Caspar). [name_f][/name_f] She passed away in 2011, and after that, [name_m]Caspar[/name_m] took on even more meaning, and sometime after that whilst battling some serious baby fever, I was singing this lullaby we sing to our babies in my church sometimes, it goes “Jesus loves [name_m]Caspar[/name_m][name_f][/name_f], [name_m]Jesus[/name_m] loves me, [name_m]Jesus[/name_m] loves you with love tenderly, [name_m]Jesus[/name_m] loves all, no matter how small, that’s why I love [name_m]Jesus[/name_m] better than all” and I was just singing it to some of my favorite names, and when I sang it to [name_m]Caspar[/name_m], I started crying, and I just knew at that point that [name_m]Caspar[/name_m] was going to be so, so special to me. [name_f][/name_f] It took a few years for it to become my favorite after that, but that was for sure the turning point! [name_f][/name_f] I love that it honors [name_f]Amélie[/name_f] in such a special way, and also is a [name_m]French[/name_m] [name_m]Christmas[/name_m] name, which my sister and I both have one of those in our names. [name_f][/name_f] It brings to mind family, my faith, and one of my dearest friends in the whole world. [name_f][/name_f] Thanks for the reminder, the reminder of this story makes my heart smile. [name_f][/name_f] [name_f]Hope[/name_f] I’m blessed to have a sweet [name_m]Caspar[/name_m] one day. [name_f][/name_f]
