When you love them all

Not sure if our little bundle is a girl but looking for advice. I could have girls list that is a mile long but agreeing with husband has left us with it narrowed it down to a top 4. I love all of them but think they all have some uncertainties too. Would love your opinions on if the worries are valid and what your favourite is!

Diana- Love the meaning and the sound. Love the nickname Di (or Ana/Annie). Classic and familiar but not overused. Maybe it is too old fashioned?

Julia- Great meaning. Amazing nickname options. Sounds very appealing and feminine without being too extravagant. Maybe a bit dated/ common?

Natalie- Classic name that I don’t think is overused. Has a nice flow to it. Maybe a bit boring/common?

Abigail- Love this name and the nickname Abby. Probably in the top 2 for my husband. Worried it is SUPER popular.

Let me know what you think or if you have any suggestions you think might fit our style! Thanks!

My middle name is Abigail. Perhaps I am biased but I really do love Abigail. It sounds melodic and it’s sweet and will age well. I don’t think it’s too popular at all. Perhaps it peaked in the 90s? But I wouldn’t say it was very well used.
I do like your other names but I prefer Juliet over Julia.
Natalie doesn’t do an awful lot for me, it feels a bit dated.
Diana is pretty but it feels very mature and a bit reserved.

Some names you may like based of these.

Diana
Delphine, Anna, Anya, Antonia, Annabelle.

Julia
Jocelyn, Josephine, Judith, Juliet, Jessamine.

Abigail
Adelaide, Ada, Gabrielle, Gabriella, Eleanor.

Natalie
Noelle, Natalia, Nancy, Nora

[name_f]My[/name_f] favorite is [name_f]Diana[/name_f]! Personally I don’t think it’s too old at all, and I’d actually say it’s more exciting than [name_f]Abigail[/name_f], [name_f]Julia[/name_f], or [name_f]Natalie[/name_f], which all feel very ‘90-2000s to me.

i really like [name_f]Natalie[/name_f] for you!

Julia has been a very popular classic for over a century, at least in the US. It does sound a bit dated, but perhaps meeting a little Julia would be sweet! I also prefer Juliet as well though!

Diana isn’t as overused, this is a constant classic! I don’t think it’s too old-fashioned at all, this is my favorite choice for you! Sweet and strong at the same time.

Natalie I would say is also a bit common, and that doesn’t seem to be something you are looking for. I would recommend maybe Nadia, Natalia, Dahlia, or Natasha?

Abigail is probably your most popular choice, but it’s a lovely name.

Suggestions:
Amelie
Serena
Emilia
Rose or Rosalie
Nina
Esme
Marina
Matilda

Overall I think that while popularity isn’t ideal, it’s better to go for a popular name that you adore, and that at least isn’t in your family yet

[name_f]Diana[/name_f] is perfect! Not too old fashioned at all! I’d love to see her get more use, and she definitely wins my vote from your list!

[name_f]Julia[/name_f] is my second favorite. She’s a timeless classic that wears well on any age in any generation, I think. But she is more common than [name_f]Diana[/name_f].

[name_f]Abigail[/name_f] is VERY popular and maybe a bit overused – but she is a sweet classic, so I can see why everyone seems to love her. [name_f]Abigail[/name_f] would be my third pick.

And, finally, [name_f]Natalie[/name_f] is just a little dated, imho. But still fine, of course.

[name_f]Diana[/name_f]–My favorite from your list! It fits your “classic and familiar but not overused” description to a T. I think it sounds fresh and pleasantly unexpected on a baby, not too old-fashioned by any means! I would be thrilled to meet a little [name_f]Diana[/name_f].

[name_f]Julia[/name_f]–This isn’t my personal favorite from your list, but it’s a great name! I think of it as being more timeless than dated, but I guess it did have a bit of a peak a couple decades ago (which tracks, because I know a lot my age!).

[name_f]Natalie[/name_f]–This is my second favorite from your choices! I don’t find it boring, although I do know several. The fact that you have both this and [name_f]Julia[/name_f] on your list makes me want to suggest [name_u]Julie[/name_u], which I adore and which would be my pick overall if it were an option!

[name_f]Abigail[/name_f]–Abigail “Abby” is lovely! If your only concern about it is the popularity, I think it’s worth overlooking; it’s popular for good reason. It’s a classic with such a warm and friendly feel. If popularity really bothers you though, I do think it’s likely you’d encounter other Abby’s pretty regularly.

[name_u]Julie[/name_u] is my main suggestion for you (sort of combining [name_f]Julia[/name_f] and Natalie)! Others that came to mind…

[name_f]Alice[/name_f]
[name_f]Anna[/name_f]
[name_f]Caroline[/name_f]
[name_f]Eliza[/name_f]
[name_f]Helena[/name_f]
[name_f]Lucy[/name_f]
[name_f]Madeline[/name_f]
[name_f]Rosalie[/name_f]

[name_f]Diana[/name_f] is a delight and I have not taught one in 30 years or known more than one adult with that name in my whole life.

diana - i really love this name!! it sounds so strong and warrior like! i love the nickname annie for it.

variations/similar names:
diane, belle, felicity, ana, anastasia, josephine, dawn, helena

julia - i agree w you when you say it’s too common. i don’t really like julie/julia unless it’s like a nickname for juliet or julianne, which i love.

variations/similar names:
juliet, julianna/julianne, louisa, beatrice, claire, emily, emma, lucy

natalie - i love the nn nat for natalie so much, but i don’t really like natalie very much, it feels pretty common. what about natasha?

variations/similar names:
natasha, natalia, rose, molly, nina, elsie, felicity, sabrina, rachel, lydia

abigail - i agree with you— this name is super popular. i do love abby though (and the nn billie).

variations/similar names:
adelynn, adelaide, hannah, sarah, avery, amelia, aubrey, audrey, mabel, clara, grace

hope this helps!!

I love [name_f]Diana[/name_f]. But if you like the nick name [name_u]Abby[/name_u], maybe you would like [name_u]Abilene[/name_u]. I’m considering it for a middle

Of course all of your concerns are completely valid and I do see where you are coming from with them all.

[name_f]Diana[/name_f] I agree that it is more old fashioned. I wouldn’t say it is TOO old fashioned though. I know people in their 20s named [name_f]Diana[/name_f] so I don’t only consider it a name that is older.
[name_f]Julia[/name_f] is the same. I know people in their 20s named [name_f]Julia[/name_f]. To me [name_f]Julia[/name_f] feels less outdated and old fashioned than [name_f]Diana[/name_f].
[name_f]Natalie[/name_f] and [name_f]Abigail[/name_f] I feel like are from the same time frame. So they don’t feel dated to me.
You seem the most excited about [name_f]Abigail[/name_f]. I don’t think it is THAT popular. I think more older children are named [name_f]Abigail[/name_f] than current babies at this point. If you guys both love it I think [name_f]Abigail[/name_f] is a great fit!

Another vote for [name_f]Diana[/name_f]. It is an often overlooked beauty. The rest are also nice, but I know/have taught a ton of Julia’s (born in the 80s-2000s) and Abigail’s/Abby’s (born in the 90s-2000s).

[name_f]Julia[/name_f] and [name_f]Abigail[/name_f] are lovely

I agree with this.

I also really like Natalie, & would love to meet one (I never have). Julia is just personally NMS, & I think Diana is dated.

I love [name_f]Diana[/name_f]! It’s strong, mature, and beautiful girl name. Your daughter would be lucky to have this refined name.

[name_f]Julia[/name_f] is okay. Very pretty. No strong feelings though.

[name_f]Natalie[/name_f] is a beautiful classic along with [name_f]Natalia[/name_f]. It’s very common, but I guess that depends on how much something like that would bother you. The meaning is beautiful though.

[name_f]Abigail[/name_f] is kinda meh in my opinion, but not that worse name ever.

With that being said, [name_f]Diana[/name_f] wins for me.

I really love [name_f]Abigail[/name_f], and [name_u]Abby[/name_u] is great. It’s certainly well known but I don’t think it’s too popular.

I love [name_f]Diana[/name_f]! It’s elegant, feminine, strong and beautiful  So many good qualities in one name!

(Ranked)

  1. [name_f]Diana[/name_f] - I love this name - timeless and elegant! [name_f]Di[/name_f] is a sweet nickname. I don’t think it’s old-fashioned at all.

  2. [name_f]Natalie[/name_f] - It’s not boring! I think it’s lovely. Sophisticated and familiar without being too common.

  3. [name_f]Abigail[/name_f] - This is such a sweet name! I don’t think it’s super popular, but it isn’t unusual either.

  4. [name_f]Julia[/name_f] - Familiar and nice sound, but this is the only one I think is a bit too overused for me personally. It isn’t super common nowadays, but there were a lot of [name_m]Julias[/name_m] in previous generations, so I do associate it with middle-aged women. It’s definitely not unusable though!
