I am debating using [name]Clare[/name] (no “i”) for a first name. I think it is beautiful, elegant and feminine. My best friend said it reminds her of a ‘‘stuck up red headed preppy girl’’. Hmmm??? Maybe you can tell we grew up when “The Breakfast Club” was popular!! What does everyone else think of the name??
I think it’s pretty. Any reason why you are nixing the i?
I have also seen [name]Clair[/name], no e. They all read the same to me. I do still like [name]Claire[/name] best.
I picture a [name]Clare[/name] as a dark-haired or red-haired little girl with an Irish background…very serious in her studies and what she wants to do with her life.
However, with the name [name]Claire[/name], I picture a dark-haired little girl with a spunky, yet serious side to her personality.
[name]Both[/name] names are great! I prefer [name]Claire[/name], myself, because people may misspell [name]Clare[/name] so much.
I think [name]Claire[/name]/[name]Clare[/name] is a sort of ‘preppy’ favorite, but it is such a classic with so many connotations that no negative one should stick. I actually like [name]Clare[/name] better myself, but I do agree that she will probably be misspelled often.
[name]Clare[/name] makes me think of County [name]Clare[/name] in [name]Ireland[/name], a magical place I visited a couple of years ago. I think of a dark haired, blue eyed, rosy cheeked Irish girl who is full of life! [name]Clare[/name] is the Irish spelling so , depending on where you live, you may have to correct people alot but they’ll soon get the hang of it! Tell your best friend that the people on Nameberry don’t think her opinion is correct (polite reply . It’s short, simple and gorgeous! Go for it!
I love the name [name]Clare[/name]! If I heard of a little girl with this name, I would first picture an adorable dark haired girl, with blue eyes. But it’s the kind of name I could also see on a red head or a blond. Great name!!
This name and spelling is among my favorites. I do picture a preppy girl, but that’s what I was going for.
Although, after I thought about the name for awhile, I am afraid I think “[name]Claire[/name]/[name]Clare[/name]” might be a bit boring. I am afraid that the name is “wallflowerish” (even though it’s pretty). Because I can’t get over this feeling, I am shying away from the name.
On the spelling, like you, I first started out liking [name]Clare[/name] better than [name]Claire[/name]. But as I thought more about it [name]Claire[/name] edged out because it’s lighter and more feminine.
[name]Clare[/name] is a place in [name]Ireland[/name] (a county I believe and a river).
I think of [name]Clare[/name] as a shy brunette who loves to read and prefers a few close friends instead of a large group. she is loyal and comes out of her shell with the people she trusts.
the only girl with the [name]Clare[/name] spelling that I know is actually a stuck-up redhead, but i don’t think of the name like that.
I think Cla(i)re is completely versatile; I can pretty much imagine (and I’ve known) a Cla(i)re of any personality or looks. I think the name is lovely and timeless, and a great choice! [name]Both[/name] spellings are equally nice for me.
A lot of people tell me that I look exactly how they would picture a [name]Clare[/name]. My name is [name]Clare[/name] and apparently I match the stereotype!! I have dark wavy hair, [name]Olive[/name] skin, and blue eyes. I never really new that my name had a stereotype, but apparently it does
My best friend! Although she’s a [name]Claire[/name]. Aside from her, though, I definitely think that [name]Clare[/name] is pretty but also kind, kind of quiet. It’s a gorgeous name, and, by the way, if you’re looking for middles, [name]Claire[/name] [name]Eliz[/name]@beth is my best friend and I love the combination.
I see [name]Clare[/name] as a girl with an inner light that brightens the day of those around her with ease. It seems so effortless and friendly like [name]Clare[/name] would get along well with just about anyone and be the kind of girl that you want to share your secrets with. I really prefer the [name]Clare[/name] spelling as it seems more clear and pure in its Latin form…of course this is coming from someone who took four years of Latin so I may be a bit partial
I absolutely love [name]Clare[/name]. I don’t think it sounds snooty at all, I agree with you that it’s classy and elegant. I prefer the [name]Clare[/name] spelling over [name]Claire[/name]. For some reason [name]Claire[/name] seems a little trendy to me, while [name]Clare[/name] sounds more classic. I can totally see a little girl [name]Clare[/name], but also an older lady named [name]Clare[/name]. Yes people would misspell it, but the name is short enough that it wouldn’t be too big of a hassle to correct.
Personally, I know a girl who spells it “[name]Clare[/name]” and we dont get along. That being said, usually, if I dont like someone with a name it ruins it; but I still like [name]Clare[/name]. And, I like this spelling of it the best. I picture a tan 20 year old girl with light brown/blondish hair and brown eyes and who plays lots of sports.
My daughter is [name]Clare[/name] and it’s misspelled some but it’s such a short name that it isn’t too big of hassle to correct. I love the name because it’s strong and feminine at the same time. Physically, she matches Beatrixdaisy’s description fairly well except she’s 9. And I’m totally biased as her mom, but she’s smart, loves to read, is super sweet, and athletic.
I think of the actress [name]Claire[/name] Danes. I like the name, but why misspell it?
I think of a blonde haired, blue eyed little girl. She loves to wear dresses, read, and play outside with her puppy.
[name]Clare[/name] is the traditional English spelling! [name]Claire[/name] and [name]Clair[/name] are traditional French spellings.
I know a [name]Clare[/name] (spelled like this) at my school. She has medium-length light brown hair and is very nice, so that’s what I think of.
The first thing I think of is The Breakfast Club when Bender mentions that [name]Claire[/name] is a fat girl’s name. That being said, children and most adults won’t get the reference or think of it at all!
