Where do you guys store your name lists?

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] guys! So, I was just wondering where y’all record the names you discover and like!
I used to use Listography, which I really love but for some reason don’t use anymore! I’ve been thinking about starting it again. (Also, if you have a Listography, link it below, I’d love to see your lists!)

Lately, I’ve just been storing it on the notes app on my laptop, but I kind of want a better place for them, so I thought I’d ask you guys!

Thank you! :smile_cat:

Here are some other threads with more info you may find helpful. How do you keep track of names you love, like or loathe?, Calling all Name Nerds! and How do you organize your names?. These are my replies paraphrased from the other boards.

I used to write everything down as I found them, but it was messy and I could never figure out where everything was. Now I use Evernote. I have one notebook divided into Boys Names, Girls Names, Combos I’m Actually Considering, Notes and Family & Friends Names.

In Boys & Girls Names, I have a template that lets me put meanings, origins, pronunciations, nicknames, notes, combos using that name and alternatives (e.i. I may prefer [name_f]Eliza[/name_f], but want to make note of [name_u]Lisa[/name_u] just in case as both are derivatives of [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]). I can move names between the sections as my tastes change.

With so many of the same name in our family, it’s hard to remember who is who. I use my Family & Friends Names section to keep track of everyone. I don’t want to use names repeatedly just because they’re family names – I want my kids to have their own names. I also use family & friends names as a starting point if I want to honor a specific person (i.e. family member named [name_u]Michael[/name_u], honor name [name_u]Micah[/name_u]).

I recently added a new section entitled Archive section each for both boys & girls where I move names I still like but am not considering using into so I still have them on hand.

I store my lists on Nameberry! I have one for girls and one for boys and sometimes I make extra ones when I’m exploring a theme. I’ve been considering trying Listography because I’ve seen its quite popular with other berries.

I just have two massive lists (girl/boy) on notes in my phone. I only have a few combos and they’re all shoved rather unceremoniously at the bottom, but I have the actual names sorted by time-added, alphabetically, and by length

I use an app called Workflowy. It’s bullet lists that… I don’t know how to describe it. You can put more lists inside of lists. So I have one section for boys, one for girls, and one for sibsets. Then the boy and girl sections are both split into 3 separate sections with my long list, my shortlist (aka UC), and names that I’m considering adding to my long list. And then in the long list any name that I have combos for has all of those combos listed inside the names too.

It works pretty well and keeps me organized so I don’t forget names, but you only get 150 edits per month if you don’t pay for the premium so it’s definitely not perfect.

I have the world’s most atrocious system, so I apologize for that.

I use Pages on my laptop. I have a doc with all my favorite names.

Wow, I feel so out of place now! Before I had a NB account, I was on Babycenter, so I keep my lists there. It’s simplistic and easy for me to manage.

I just use the notes app on my phone, but if I’m struggling with combos, then I write them down to help me decide!

I use the notes app on my phone. I have a long list and an “every name I like” list for boys and girls haha. Plus, my shortlists that go in my user card. I also use listography sometimes but it’s easier to just update my notes whenever, regardless of whether I’m on wifi or not.

I don’t really make many new name lists anymore, and if I do it’s usually on my name instagram (where I post very sporadically). At one point I had all my lists as word documents, however, a few years ago I moved them all to listography (listography: Polly). Most of my master lists and old signatures are on there now and I always go back to them for inspiration.

I have a running note on my phone with my name list, but what I consider my “official” list is kept on babynames.com. You have to pay to access their forums, I think? But it’s free to keep a list on their site, which allows you to keep up to 100 names (of which it’s very easy to make combos).

I’ve tried Listography and even creating lists on nb but never really connected with either; I admit to preferring [name_u]Baby[/name_u] Names much more.

[name_f]My[/name_f] link to my list there is in my usercard.

Google docs and sheets and Listogrophy.com

Memo

I used to use notebooks, then name berry, now I just use the notes app on my phone.
