Which -ch / -th name for a girl?

I love the name [name_f]Peach[/name_f], but I think it might be firmly a GP as I don’t think it would age very well at all. :frowning:

Trisch looks like a misspelling of [name_f]Trish[/name_f] to me, and [name_f]Trish[/name_f]/[name_f]Patricia[/name_f] sound dated to me. I’d like something a little more modern. Not a fan of [name_f]Ruth[/name_f] for the same reason.

I do like the name [name_f]Beth[/name_f], but a family member has already used it as a middle name for their daughter.

Thanks! I think the fact that it’s so close to [name_f]Ruth[/name_f] definitely works in it’s favour.

Yay! I’m glad someone doesn’t hate the name [name_m]Heath[/name_m] on a girl. I feels like a tomboyish version of [name_f]Heather[/name_f] to me, so I definitely don’t hate it on a girl. We live in an area close to the park Hampstead [name_m]Heath[/name_m] in [name_u]London[/name_u], so it has special meaning to us.

I hadn’t thought of [name_m]Birch[/name_m] having the same feel as [name_u]Brooke[/name_u], [name_u]Blair[/name_u], [name_f]Briar[/name_f] and [name_u]Blake[/name_u]! Maybe it’s more wearable for a girl than I thought… [name_m]Birch[/name_m] [name_f]Elisabeth[/name_f] is definitely one of the most beautiful combos of them all imo. Again, [name_m]Birch[/name_m] has a special meaning to me - I was born in a suburb called Birchville and my grandparents lived on a street called [name_m]Birch[/name_m] [name_u]Grove[/name_u].

Thanks for all of the positive feedback.

Thanks! As I mentioned to the pp, I [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] the name [name_f]Peach[/name_f] but I worry it should stay firmly on the GP list.

[name_m]Lynch[/name_m] is cool, but it has an unpleasant sound and meaning that I’m not sure I could get past.

[name_f]Blanche[/name_f] (prefer it with the ‘e’) I like, but my cousin has a chicken called [name_f]Blanche[/name_f] so it would be weird to bestow it on a child now.

I adore the suggestion of [name_u]Leith[/name_u] though! [name_u]Love[/name_u] the subtle nature connection, and the nod to the British Isles. Thanks for the suggestion - I’m going to add [name_u]Leith[/name_u] to the list.

Yes, that’s definitely one of the downsides to the name [name_m]Birch[/name_m] - although I think the teasing potential applies just as much to do a boy as it does to a girl i.e. “[name_m]Don[/name_m]'t be a little b*tch”. Kids are used to such a bigger variety of names now, some unusual, so perhaps it won’t be too much of a cause for concern.

Thanks, I like the literary connections with [name_u]Finch[/name_u] and [name_u]March[/name_u] too!

[name_u]Love[/name_u] [name_u]Scout[/name_u] too, although the TKAM connection feels a bit more obvious. There’s a celebrity (can’t remember who) with a daughter called [name_u]Scout[/name_u] [name_f]Margery[/name_f] and I absolutely adore that combo. Maybe I should just steal it, hehe!

Thanks! Lots of kind words about [name_m]Heath[/name_m], [name_u]March[/name_u], [name_u]Truth[/name_u] (and [name_u]Finch[/name_u]) which makes me feel a lot more confident about using them.

Thanks, glad you appreciate the name [name_u]Finch[/name_u] [name_f]Elisabeth[/name_f] too!

A pp suggested [name_u]Leith[/name_u] too and I think it’s brilliant, so I’m definitely going to add [name_u]Leith[/name_u] to the list. [name_f]Edith[/name_f]/[name_f]Edie[/name_f] are super popular here in the UK so I wouldn’t use them as much as I love the names. [name_f]Tanith[/name_f], [name_f]Delyth[/name_f] and Zenith are NMS. I do like [name_f]Ferelith[/name_f], but it feels a little too similar to my name ([name_f]Felicity[/name_f]).

Thanks for your honest feedback. [name_f]Ruth[/name_f] feels dated to me, I don’t like the negative association with [name_f]Lilith[/name_f] and [name_f]Gwyneth[/name_f] is all Paltrow to me. Appreciate the suggestions though!

Thanks @emsky! I love the nickname Truthie, great suggestion!

Thanks to everyone who voted and commented, my final shortlist (in order of preference) is:
