The two name we have are [name_f]Marion[/name_f] (maybe sp [name_f]Marian[/name_f], undecided) or [name_f]Daphne[/name_f].
[name_f][/name_f]
Which do you prefer and why? What do you associate with the names and are they good or bad associations?
[name_f][/name_f]
Personally, hesitant on [name_f]Daphne[/name_f] bc I hear [name_m]Daffy[/name_m] daft or daft knee. [name_f]Marion[/name_f] I love, I think of [name_m]Indiana[/name_m] [name_m]Jones[/name_m], someone feminine but strong. But I do worry about how similar it is to many names like Mary-anne (which I donât like)
I really like [name_f]Marian[/name_f] (this spelling)! It always makes me think of [name_m]Maid[/name_m] [name_f]Marian[/name_f] from [name_m]Robin[/name_m] Hood [name_f][/name_f]- loved her growing up & is a very positive association for me
I love both! But honestly, it seems like youâre leaning more towards [name_f]Marion[/name_f]! I donât think you need to worry about any other [name_f]Mary[/name_f]- names. [name_f]Marion[/name_f] is a name that stands well on its own.
I love Daphne, but Im worried its about to explode in popularity. Its just that right amount of quirky/classic and with the bridgerton character. I feel like its just ripe for popularity. Which isnt necessarily a bad thing! But something worth noting.
Beyond the popularity i think Daphne is beautifully quirky. Classic and elegant.
Marian is also a great classic, but to me it feels more vintage than Victorian like Daphne. Where I see Daphne wearing edwardian/victorian dresseals. Marian is dressed more in classic early 1900-1940âs style. I find it classic, understated and underused. And Id love to meet a little Marian/Marion. (It also reminds me of the Music man & Marian the Librarian)
I prefer [name_f]Daphne[/name_f], personally, but I agree that it sounds like Marian/Marion has your heart! [name_f][/name_f] I wouldnât worry about [name_f]Marianne[/name_f], it looks similar, but I think [name_f]Marion[/name_f] helps distance it from [name_f]Marianne[/name_f]?
[name_f][/name_f]
Both names are lovely, and a little girl would be lucky to have either name. [name_f][/name_f] Good luck!
I much prefer Marion. Itâs chic and tailored but also traditional, which is my usual style. Itâs also familiar but quite uncommon. If Marianne was wildly popular, I could see Marion being mistaken for it sometimes, but thatâs not the case.
Iâm not so fond of Daphne because of the âdaphâ sound. Reminds me too much of the words âdaffâ and âdaftâ. I also see it mentioned a lot and it has increased in popularity recently, which would make me wonder if itâs about to climb quickly up the charts.
[name_f]My[/name_f] personal preference is [name_f]Daphne[/name_f], but just to echo what others have said, you really canât go wrong with either name.
[name_f]Marion[/name_f] is my favorite! Sheâs a little more unexpected, and has such gentle elegance. I wouldnât worry about variations like Mary-anne, because the pronunciations are different enough to avoid any conflict. [name_f]My[/name_f] main association is [name_m]Maid[/name_m] [name_f]Marian[/name_f] from [name_m]Robin[/name_m] Hood, which I absolutely love.
[name_f][/name_f]
[name_f]Daphne[/name_f] is gorgeous as well, and has that same cottage-core feel while maybe having an extra playful element. However, sheâs definitely a little more common & she honestly doesnât seem as close to your heart. I personally donât have any huge associations with the name, but some may reference Bridgerton or [name_m]Scooby[/name_m] Doo, neither of which are bad imo.
I adore both. [name_f]Marion[/name_f] has my heart, though, because it is my daughterâs middle name (an honor for my grandmother). I love how it sounds feminine without sounding frilly. It has a timeless quality even though itâs not been popular. It sounds steady, elegant, and has a [name_f]French[/name_f] flair.
[name_f][/name_f]
But if you had put [name_f]Daphne[/name_f] up against something else, I very easily could have made an impassioned speech about how great she is, too. I always wanted to meet a little Daphne⌠but was kind of disappointed when I found out that it was a âBridgertonâ name, because I assumed it then might become popular. I love a good âhidden gemâ, which [name_f]Marion[/name_f] still is, and [name_f]Daphne[/name_f] was until nowâŚ?
[name_f]Marian[/name_f] would be my preferred spelling, but I do love the name regardless and I am sometimes surprised itâs not more popular. I love [name_f]Daphne[/name_f] too so you canât go wrong really! But I have had a soft spot for Marian/Marion for a long time
I love both they are gorgeous incredibly classic and feel romantic with a literacy flair. Both names are beautiful. I have [name_f]Daphne[/name_f] on my list as the name is an honour option however I do feel that @LibelluleClaire[name_f][/name_f] has valid points. I can see [name_f]Daphne[/name_f] rising in popularity due to Bridgerton and have nature connotations which is definitely on trend. [name_f]Marian[/name_f] is a beautiful name but does feel more vintage and a little more clunky still I do like this overall feel.

Both names are gorgeous but I think I lean more towards [name_f]Daphne[/name_f]
