Which middle for Sawyer?

Now that we’ve established exactly when we are going to start TTC ([name]August[/name]), the idea of having a second child has become more of a reality and not just a distant thought. Unless I find something else in the process of TTC/pregnancy, [name]Sawyer[/name] looks to be my #1 contender for another daughter, with Merit being a close 2nd. So, which middle name sounds the best with [name]Sawyer[/name]?

[name]Sawyer[/name] [name]Faye[/name] (should I spell it [name]Faye[/name] or [name]Fae[/name]?)
[name]Sawyer[/name] [name]Alys[/name]
[name]Sawyer[/name] [name]Blue[/name] ([name]Blue[/name] was my late father’s nickname, I have debated whether to use it or not since it’s become somewhat of a “celebrity” name)
[name]Sawyer[/name] [name]Wren[/name] (this one might clash with our last name though, which ends in -son and has a prominent R sound)

Suggestions are also welcome. I would prefer 1 syllable, possibly 2 and no names that end in -a.

I really like [name]Sawyer[/name] for a girl, especially with [name]Rowan[/name].
[name]Sawyer[/name] [name]Faye[/name]- this is really pretty, i like the softness of [name]Faye[/name] against [name]Sawyer[/name] (i prefer [name]Faye[/name])
[name]Sawyer[/name] [name]Alys[/name]- is this pronounced like [name]Alice[/name] or A-leese?
[name]Sawyer[/name] [name]Blue[/name]- i do like this but i sort of sounds like a brand name, like a cologne or something. But i love that [name]Blue[/name] was your Dad’s nickname
[name]Sawyer[/name] [name]Wren[/name]- this is my favourite. If you’re worried about it clashing with your last name, how about [name]Sawyer[/name] [name]Lark[/name]?
I also thought that [name]Sawyer[/name] [name]Fern/name sounds lovely.

Btw, i met a lovely girl in her twenties the other day called [name]Rowan[/name]; she was really cool, an artist but super down to earth and smart. Anyway, i couldn’t resist asking if she had any siblings and what they were called (she must have thought i was mad!). To my delight she had two sisters- [name]Jocelyn[/name] and [name]Frances[/name].

[name]Sawyer[/name] [name]Blue[/name] sounds too masculine to me. I live your first daughters name with unisex feel of the first name and the simple, classic, and feminine middle name. For that reason, I like [name]Sawyer[/name] [name]Faye[/name] the best. But I would consider other classic names like [name]Jane[/name]. [name]Sawyer[/name] [name]Rose[/name], [name]Sawyer[/name] [name]Anne[/name], and [name]Sawyer[/name] [name]Clare[/name] sound great to me.

[name]Sawyer[/name] [name]Alys[/name]. I feel like [name]Sawyer[/name] and [name]Rowan[/name] have a similar feel and [name]Jane[/name] and [name]Alys[/name] do as well. The others don’t feel like [name]Jane[/name], ykwim?

[name]Sawyer[/name] [name]Alys[/name]. It’s lovely.

[name]Sawyer[/name] [name]Wren[/name] is my favorite. [name]Sawyer[/name] [name]Faye[/name] is a very close second.
I would love to use [name]Sawyer[/name] if we have a dd2, but my husband’s not really into it. Some of the middle names I like with it are: [name]Sawyer[/name] [name]Eden[/name], [name]Sawyer[/name] [name]Mae[/name], [name]Sawyer[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name], [name]Sawyer[/name] [name]Grace[/name], [name]Sawyer[/name] [name]Belle[/name].

I remember loving your reasoning for using [name]Sawyer[/name]. Isn’t [name]Sawyer[/name] indirectly in honor of your father? [name]Sawyer[/name] [name]Blue[/name] is very androgynous, unlike [name]Rowan[/name] [name]Jane[/name], so I would strike that from the list. [name]Sawyer[/name] [name]Wren[/name] sort of has the same issue, and the back-to-back “r” sound isn’t ideal.

[name]Sawyer[/name] [name]Faye[/name] and [name]Sawyer[/name] [name]Alys[/name] are both nice. [name]Sawyer[/name] [name]Alys[/name] is my favorite; I really like the flow, sound, and feel I get from it.

Are you pronouncing [name]Sawyer[/name] as “saw-yer” or “soy-yer?”

I like [name]Sawyer[/name] [name]Fae[/name]. I generally prefer the [name]Faye[/name] spelling but [name]Sawyer[/name] already has a “y” in it. It’s a pet peeve of mine but I don’t like fn and mn’s to both have y’s in them. However, I would have chosen [name]Sawyer[/name] [name]Alice[/name] if it wasn’t spelled [name]Alys[/name] with a y.

All of them are lovely, the only one I’m not super fond of with it is [name]Alys[/name].

[name]Sawyer[/name] [name]Faye[/name] would be my pick. Though I prefer Merit. Merit [name]Alys[/name] or Merit [name]Blue[/name] would both be fabulous.

@southern.maple - [name]Sawyer[/name] should always been pronounced as “soy-yer” never “saw-yer”.

Wow… we’ve been crazy busy the past few days and I haven’t had a chance to get back to this thread! So sorry! Anyway…

@freya55, [name]Alys[/name] is pronounced like [name]Alice[/name], maybe with a softer A.

@paw, I am definitely looking for short classic names in the middle, but they have to be spunky and have some personal significance to us like [name]Jane[/name]. [name]Rose[/name] and [name]Claire[/name] are “filler” middles to me.

@dindlee, I totally know what you mean about [name]Jane[/name] and [name]Alys[/name] having a connection.

@southern.maple, [name]Sawyer[/name] does (subtley) honor my father so maybe [name]Blue[/name] isn’t necessary. I do get how [name]Sawyer[/name] and [name]Wren[/name] kind of run into each other. The last name has a prominent R sound as well, so I think [name]Wren[/name] will definitely not work.

@[name]Mischa[/name], I do pronounce it more like soy-yer but it has a prominent W sound to me… I don’t know if that makes sense but it’s the same with [name]Rowan[/name]. Your brain senses there is a W but it’s not the typical W sound. Also, I am using [name]Alys[/name] over [name]Alice[/name] because it’s an indirect way to honor my Welsh heritage and my grandmother’s home country. Not just sticking random y’s in names.

Since [name]Sawyer[/name] is obviously a boy’s name, which is going to give your daughter enough trouble, I would strongly suggest choosing a feminine middle for her to fall back on, preferably one with a number of nickname possibilities. [name]Sawyer[/name] [name]Faye[/name] or [name]Sawyer[/name] [name]Alice[/name] are the best combinations from your list. [name]Sawyer[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name] would work even better.

I prefer [name]Sawyer[/name] [name]Faye[/name], with that spelling too. The others aren’t distinct in revealing gender, since [name]Sawyer[/name] in unisex. I like [name]Sawyer[/name] on a girl, though, and I think [name]Faye[/name] balances it out well.

My thoughts as well.

I think [name]Sawyer[/name] needs a feminine mn, so I would go with [name]Faye[/name].

[name]Sawyer[/name] [name]Faye[/name] is my favorite of your combos.

[name]Sawyer[/name] [name]Elise[/name]
[name]Sawyer[/name] [name]Adele[/name]
[name]Sawyer[/name] [name]Maeve[/name]
[name]Sawyer[/name] [name]Camille[/name]
[name]Sawyer[/name] [name]Blythe[/name]
[name]Sawyer[/name] [name]Louise[/name]
[name]Sawyer[/name] [name]June[/name]
[name]Sawyer[/name] [name]Juno[/name]

I grew up with a “boys name” and it never gave me any trouble. She wouldn’t need a name to “fall back on.” Frankly, it is condescending and rude to suggest my name choice is so vile and wrong that she must have a plain name to fall back on. Obviously I should stop posting threads about my choices because most of the “help” comes from people only choosing the most feminine choice and not actually giving me advice on the sound, flow, rhythm, etc. of the name.

I’ll go against the grain here and say that I love [name]Sawyer[/name] for a girl, and don’t like it for a boy.

[name]Sawyer[/name] [name]Faye[/name] - I think the flow on this one is lovely and [name]Faye[/name] to me isn’t the most feminine, but the spunkiest of your choices. I think the style of both names complement each other very nicely.

[name]Sawyer[/name] [name]Alys[/name] - I didn’t read the other replies, but I’m going to assume [name]Alys[/name] is an alternative spelling of [name]Alice[/name]. While the names together create a great flow, I must admit that I like the look of [name]Sawyer[/name] [name]Alice[/name] over [name]Sawyer[/name] [name]Alys[/name] more.

[name]Sawyer[/name] [name]Blue[/name] - I’ll be honest here and say that this looks and sounds like a boy’s name to me. [name]Blue[/name] is just so masculine to me, and even though I find [name]Sawyer[/name] more feminine than masculine, [name]Blue[/name] really does tip the scale to boy to me. Perhaps another color name or another name relating to the color blue, like [name]Sawyer[/name] [name]Indigo[/name] or [name]Sawyer[/name] [name]Teal[/name] or [name]Sawyer[/name] [name]Azure[/name]?

[name]Sawyer[/name] [name]Wren[/name] - I like the look of this one a lot, and the sound of the combo together is very spunky and earthy (a plus in my book!). However, since you have the possibility of it clashing with your last name, I would advise going with another [name]Sawyer[/name] combo- you really do have some lovely ones listed!

I think [name]Rowan[/name] and [name]Sawyer[/name] match beautifully together. I like [name]Sawyer[/name] [name]Alys[/name] a lot! My second choice would be [name]Sawyer[/name] [name]Faye[/name]. [name]Sawyer[/name] [name]Blue[/name] is a nice nod to your dad, but, as a few people have said, it’s not a great combination (especially with the celebrity influence). [name]Sawyer[/name] [name]Wren[/name] is nice, but if [name]Wren[/name] clashes with your surname, then maybe choose something else. If you’re looking for the name with the best flow, it’s definitely [name]Sawyer[/name] [name]Faye[/name] (two/one syllable count).

Out of your picks I love [name]Sawyer[/name] [name]Faye[/name], [name]Faye[/name] is so sweet and I’ve just been loving it so may be a bit of bias. My second pick is [name]Sawyer[/name] [name]Blue[/name] but dropping the ‘e’. I’m not sure why but [name]Blue[/name] has always looked masculine while [name]Blu[/name] looks feminine.

The suggestion of [name]Sawyer[/name] [name]Adele[/name] is also great! That combo actually popped into my head then I came and saw someone else thought of it.

[name]Sawyer[/name] [name]Inez[/name]
[name]Sawyer[/name] [name]Carys[/name]
[name]Sawyer[/name] [name]Eve[/name]
[name]Sawyer[/name] [name]Niamh[/name]

I am honestly confused by this reaction. If you posted soliciting middle names for a boy named [name]Sophia[/name] or [name]Claire[/name], people would suggest, well, boys’ names. [name]How[/name] is this any different?
