Which middle name for Grace or Gracie?

I might have finally gotten close to finding a girls name. My grandmother was Grace and my husband has a great grandmother with the same name. As popular as it might be, I’ve really fallen in love with both Grace and Gracie and can picture it as a sister to Li@m and R@fferty.

My issue now is middle name.

I don’t love anything. DH will want a family name, even though Grace is already one. I like Grace Ivy but I can feel this being an uphill battle. My aunt passed away a couple of years ago and I.V. were her initials. We weren’t overly close but I have a painting she gave me just before she passed with I.V. In the corner and I think about Ivy everyday because of it.

Other option is Gracie Scout. I’ve loved Scout for YEARS and DH knows this. I don’t love it as a fn with our boys but I do love it as a middle. I could probably talk him into this one. It’s a bit hissy, though?

Sorry this is so long! But which would you choose?

I like the vibe of [name_f]Gracie[/name_f] [name_m]Scout[/name_m] with your boys.

I’d go with GracIe Scout, partly because as a Grace, I would want Scout as a middle (so I could go by it sometimes  ) and because I like Gracie with your boys – it feels like it fits with grounded L and rarer R at the same time

[name_f]Gracie[/name_f] [name_m]Scout[/name_m]! Mostly because I think [name_f]Gracie[/name_f] is such a lovely first name and I like it more than [name_f]Grace[/name_f] (especially with your boys, whose names also have a more lively sound and friendly vibe!)

[name_f]Gracie[/name_f] sounds juvenile and too much like “greasy” to me.

[name_f]Grace[/name_f] is classy.

I would go with what you prefer her first name to be. Middle names (at least where I’m from) aren’t used very often. I personally like having the more formal [name_f]Grace[/name_f] as a legal name in case she doesn’t end up wanting to be [name_f]Gracie[/name_f] when she’s older, but that’s just me. I think both [name_f]Grace[/name_f] [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] and [name_f]Gracie[/name_f] [name_m]Scout[/name_m] are sweet!

I think [name_f]Grace[/name_f] [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] is absolutely lovely! I think it’s extremely classy and will age well with her as she grows up. I also believe it goes very well with your boys’ names.

As much as I love [name_f]Gracie[/name_f] (it’s my dog’s name!), I feel [name_f]Gracie[/name_f] [name_m]Scout[/name_m] is great for her when she’s young, but won’t grow up with her as well as [name_f]Grace[/name_f] [name_f]Ivy[/name_f].

[name_f]Grace[/name_f] [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] is my personal favorite, but [name_f]Gracie[/name_f] [name_m]Scout[/name_m] feels very you! I prefer just [name_f]Grace[/name_f] as a first name, and I’m not as fond of [name_m]Scout[/name_m], but both options are lovely!

I love [name_f]Grace[/name_f] [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] nn Gracie!! [name_m]The[/name_m] significance of [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] for you makes it such a lovely choice. What a great story to tell a daughter.

[name_f]Gracie[/name_f] [name_m]Scout[/name_m] is very sweet but I agree, a little s-heavy/hissy. That doesn’t matter loads because how often do you say both names together, but it would put me off personally.

[name_m]Wild[/name_m] card, what about [name_f]Grace[/name_f] [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] [name_m]Scout[/name_m] ‘Gracie’?!

Hmmm, I’m not sure…

I think Grace Ivy is a nice route to nn Gracie but am not sure about Grace Ivy as I don’t like the Gray-Sivy sound. I prefer a consonant after Grace. I’m also not sure about the two words names.

Could Grace Livia or Grace Olivia work? Means the IV is captured? Or just a strong V in Genevieve or Octavia and others.

I also wonder if IV is the middle name to go for, both because you’ve already honoured two family members via Grace - and I think it’s nice if a child gets one name that is just their own without any loaded meanings - and also because you weren’t especially close to this relative and so the connection for your daughter is more directly the painting than your closeness with this person. This sounds less sensitive than I mean (internet not helping!) - obv you know what she and the painting mean - just struck me that maybe this isn’t the name to go for unless you really feel moved to honour her.

This consideration made me turn to Scout. How about Grace Scarlett nn Scout? Or Scarlett Grace nn Scout?

Or Grace Scotia (if you have a Scotland connection) nn Scout? Or Grace Cosette nn Scout?

Or your, Gracie Scout - which I prefer to Grace Ivy but I also prefer Grace nn Gracie to Gracie.

Hope my incoherent thoughts help - if only to help you double down on something!

Between [name_f]Grace[/name_f] and [name_f]Gracie[/name_f], I’d absolutely go with [name_f]Grace[/name_f]. [name_f]Gracie[/name_f] is always there as a nickname option, but it’s a bit more formal. As a [name_f]Mollie[/name_f], I always wished for a longer full name, even though [name_f]Mollie[/name_f] is historically a first name, too. I like the idea of [name_f]Grace[/name_f] “Gracie” in case she wants a non-nickname name to fall back on.

As for the combos, I prefer [name_f]Grace[/name_f] [name_f]Ivy[/name_f]. It is very serene and pretty, and I love the connection to the painting. Thinking of [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] each day because of it would be enough of a sign for me to choose her! :white_heart:

First of all, as a [name_f]Grace[/name_f], you have picked a lovely first name! I personally have never been a fan of being called [name_f]Gracie[/name_f], but that’s a personal hang up, there is nothing wrong with the name itself.

I’m going to make a controversial suggestion and say that I really love [name_f]Grace[/name_f] [name_m]Scout[/name_m]. Usually I’m a fan of a longer middle name with a short first name but their is something so fun and joyous about [name_f]Grace[/name_f] [name_m]Scout[/name_m]. They are both word names but they feel like opposites ends of the spectrum in terms of vibe: [name_f]Grace[/name_f] - calm, serene, classic and [name_m]Scout[/name_m] - wild, sharp and modern - and the contrast is really stunning to me! [name_f]Gracie[/name_f] [name_m]Scout[/name_m] is fine and that would be my second choice. [name_f]Grace[/name_f] [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] just doesn’t flow for me for some reason but I like the idea of it.

I really like [name_f]Grace[/name] [name_f]Ivy[/name] because I prefer [name_f]Grace[/name] “[name_f]Gracie[/name]” than [name_f]Gracie[/name] on its own. That being said, I do think [name_f]Gracie[/name] [name_f]Scout[/name] works nicely as well. You can’t really go wrong!

I love [name_f]Grace[/name_f] [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] & [name_f]Grace[/name_f] [name_m]Scout[/name_m]. Fun fact, I know a little [name_m]Scout[/name_m] [name_f]Grace[/name_f]. And it’s so cute on her!

I do love [name_f]Gracie[/name_f] [name_m]Scout[/name_m] and I think it does combine the adventurousness of [name_m]Rafferty[/name_m] with the nicknaminess of [name_m]Liam[/name_m]. It’s growing on me a lot the more I think about it in combo with your boys.

As an individual name, however, I would probably lean [name_f]Grace[/name_f] [name_f]Ivy[/name_f]. More because [name_f]Grace[/name_f] is a solid, classic, beautiful name that also contains [name_f]Gracie[/name_f] as a natural nickname. I think it looks really elegant and it flows well. Tbf, [name_f]Grace[/name_f] can easily be a nickname for [name_f]Gracie[/name_f] as well, so both names will be an option either way. I just think I’d personally prefer [name_f]Grace[/name_f] on my legal documents.
