Which one is best: Cozette, Cosette, or Colette?

[name]Ever[/name] since the movie [name]Les[/name] Miserables; I’ve been obsessed (I mean OBSESSED) with the name [name]Cosette[/name]. Now being a berry on this site; I’ve been seeing a lot of forms of this name. I was just wondering what YOU thought sounded better and if there are any other forms.

What I know:

  • [name]Cosette[/name] (the original form)
  • [name]Cozette[/name] (I love z names and add z’s to a lot of names: [name]Zayden[/name], [name]Zella[/name], [name]Zephyr[/name], [name]Zanna[/name] (I prefer Xanna), Zolton… etc. I can go on
  • [name]Colette[/name] (I found this in the nameberry forums)

This is tough.

[name]Cozette[/name] - Doesn’t seem like a “real” spelling to me. I don’t know why.

[name]Cosette[/name] - Its nice…but too much of an [name]Les[/name] Mis association for me. I think if you used it, I’m sure all of people would assume you’re a [name]Les[/name] Mis superfan (maybe you are, though).

[name]Collette[/name] - It’s ok…but sounds a tad dated to me.

Hmmm… While [name]Cosette[/name] has a lovely sound, I feel it is too attached to [name]Les[/name] Mis for most people to see it and NOT think, “Oh, like in [name]Les[/name] Miserables!” [name]Cozette[/name] looks like the tryndeigh version. I’d say go for [name]Colette[/name].

[name]Colette[/name]. The only real name there

I’m going to sound like a broken record but… [name]Hugo[/name] made up [name]Cosette[/name]. It just means ‘little thing’ (from the word choisette) and was a nickname for the character Euphrasie.

I prefer [name]Colette[/name] personally, like if I were going to use the name in my family, but [name]Cosette[/name] is lovely. [name]Cosette[/name] sounds very graceful and regal to me, whereas [name]Colette[/name] is just a little bit more down-to-earth. I believe [name]Colette[/name] is related to the name [name]Nicolette[/name]. You might like that one, too.

Yep, this and for the same reason. It’s super dated, though.

I love [name]Cosette[/name]! I love [name]Les[/name] Miz too and I think the association is cool.

I prefer [name]Cosette[/name].

Of the three, definitely [name]Colette[/name].

I would go with [name]Colette[/name]. [name]Cosette[/name] was somewhat invented by [name]Hugo[/name] for [name]Les[/name] Mis-not a very authentic French name (assuming that was what you were going for). I think [name]Colette[/name] is beautiful, classic and not overly popular.

[name]Cozette[/name] - not a fan of ‘z’ in the middle of a name, as it makes it seem made up or ultra trendy
[name]Cosette[/name] - I like it, as long as you’re ok with the inevitable [name]Les[/name] Mis associations
[name]Colette[/name] - my favorite of the three by far

[name]Colette[/name] is beautiful.

[name]Colette[/name] is definitely going to be the name I give a daughter someday! So I guess I’m a little bias but oh well. [name]Cosette[/name] has a nice sound too though. I still like [name]Colette[/name] the best

I think [name]Colette[/name] is beautiful. I don’t see it as dated but that’s because I’ve never known one and have no associations for it.

[name]Cosette[/name] is so sweet; I love it too, but it does seem more nicknamey, like a term of endearment.

I would not do [name]Cozette[/name]. I like z’s too, but it ruins the name for me in this case.

[name]Cosette[/name] used to be so rare. I knew a [name]Cosette[/name] when I was a kid. She is older than I am, so I am guessing mid 40s now.
Now that they made [name]Les[/name] Mis into a movie, the name won’t be so rare.
I dislike the z in [name]Cozette[/name]. The original is always better, in my opinion.
My vote is for [name]Colette[/name]. I always go for names that are more vintage and less popular. It is one of my favorite “ette” name. [name]Nicolette[/name] is great too, it isn’t even the top 1000. [name]Colette[/name] is. [name]Cosette[/name] isn’t, but I think that will change. [name]Cosette[/name] seems a bit trendy to me, because of the movie.

Definitely [name]Colette[/name]. I agree that [name]Hugo[/name] made up the name [name]Cosette[/name] and she’s a little bit drippy and two-dimensional even in the novel.

[name]Colette[/name] is stylish and unusual but still authentic.

[name]Colette[/name]. [name]Cozette[/name] looks awfully trendy and [name]Cosette[/name]'s association is just too much. [name]Colette[/name] can have the ties while still letting the girl make her own name, if that makes sense.

I say [name]Cosette[/name]! I think its beautiful, cute, and not too popular. since the movie came out recently people associate it with the character but once the movie hurrah is over I don’t think it will be people’s first thought when they hear it.

[name]Colette[/name] is blah for me, not sure why, it sounds like an older woman to me.

For similar reasons to many pp’s, I would absolutely choose [name]Colette[/name].

I think [name]Colette[/name] is a beautiful name, I like [name]Nicolette[/name] too!
