[name_f]Penelope[/name_f] [name_f]Cosima[/name_f] and [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] [name_f]Euphemia[/name_f] get my vote! Along with [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_f]Rowena[/name_f] - so stunning. Fabulous choices!

I voted [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] [name_f]Cosima[/name_f]. My second choice is [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] [name_f]Cecile[/name_f].

I couldn’t vote because I loved too many! I’m sure you know I love your [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] [name_f]Cecile[/name_f]–she’s so, so beautiful!–but I also [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] [name_f]Cosima[/name_f] and [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] [name_f]Emmanuelle[/name_f] (be still my beating heart! I’ve become SUCH a massive [name_f]Emmanuelle[/name_f] fan!). I honestly can’t pick between those three.

You’re pregnant again, @mega_muffin?! I’m jealous.

I saw your other thread and really like [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] with your other daughters’ names. But [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] is very nice, too! If you pick [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f], would you have a shorter nickname for this one, too? If so, I’m all ears–I really like [name_f]Cate[/name_f] and [name_f]Vera[/name_f].

Best wishes and good luck!

Thanks for the votes and comments so far!

Yes, he or she is due in late [name_f]September[/name_f]! And, yes, there will definitely be nicknames no matter what name we pick. For [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f], it would probably be [name_f]Beth[/name_f]. I just think [name_f]Beth[/name_f] is so sweet, and I like the [name_m]Little[/name_m] Women connection because that’s where my mom got the idea for my nickname ([name_f]Meg[/name_f]/[name_f]Margaret[/name_f]). I also like [name_f]Liza[/name_f], [name_f]Elle[/name_f]/[name_f]Ella[/name_f], [name_f]Lily[/name_f], and [name_f]Libby[/name_f]. For [name_f]Penelope[/name_f], I’m not sure yet. I’m thinking maybe [name_f]Nell[/name_f] or [name_f]Nela[/name_f], or perhaps [name_f]Pola[/name_f] or [name_f]Lola[/name_f]. (We’re also considering [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] “[name_f]Rose[/name_f]” [name_f]Theophania[/name_f].)

Ooh, I’d vote for [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] “[name_f]Rose[/name_f]” [name_f]Theophania[/name_f]. Gorgeous.

[name_f]Do[/name_f] you have any boy combos yet?

We’ll probably go with [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] “[name_m]Axel[/name_m]” [name_m]Leopold[/name_m], but I have to admit that a part of me really does prefer [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m] [name_m]Ambrose[/name_m]. If only we loved any of the nicknames for [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m]! I guess I could live with [name_m]Bastian[/name_m], but it just doesn’t thrill me.

Oooh, you’ve got so many gorgeous combinations here! I love [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] [name_f]Cosima[/name_f]- it feels elegant, sweet, feminine, intelligent and quietly strong. It has a 19th/early 20thc upper class British vibe in the best way to me. [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] [name_f]Chiara[/name_f] is my second favourite, spunky and dramatic and fun and lively, with international flair. [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] [name_f]Lucia[/name_f] has the same vibe to me, but I don’t like [name_f]Lucia[/name_f] as much as [name_f]Chiara[/name_f]. [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] [name_f]Euphemia[/name_f] also really intrigues me, with its ancient, timeless, clunky but sophisticated feel.

I saw your [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] thread but didn’t reply right away and didn’t get back to it in time, but I [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_f]Rowena[/name_f]! It has so much depth and intrigue to me, despite [name_f]Rowena[/name_f] being less unusual and distinctive than many of the other middles on your lists. I picture an old romantic castle with lots of history, that’s seen better days but still looks beautiful. Women in long elaborate gowns. [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_f]Francesca[/name_f] is gorgeous too, I like the contrast of proper [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] with dramatic, fiery [name_f]Francesca[/name_f], but it feels a bit more pedestrian than your other choices.

Your boys’ picks are lovely too. [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m] [name_m]Ambrose[/name_m] and [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] [name_m]Leopold[/name_m] “[name_m]Axel[/name_m]” are very handsome, but [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m] is my favourite boys’ name so I love that a bit more. What about [name_u]Sam[/name_u] or [name_u]Sammy[/name_u] (from the S in [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m] and Am in [name_m]Ambrose[/name_m]) as a nickname? I also like [name_m]Baz[/name_m].

I find [name_f]Emmanuelle[/name_f] so gorgeous, so that was definitely my pick. Despite its length and their similar syllable count, I think [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] [name_f]Emmanuelle[/name_f] actually flows quite beautifully - likely due to the stress pattern of [name_f]Emmanuelle[/name_f]. I very much like [name_f]Cosima[/name_f] too, but I prefer [name_f]Emmanuelle[/name_f] in this case by a fairly large margin.

Omigosh, you are a genius! [name_u]Sam[/name_u] is one of my all-time favorite boy nicknames, and it does work well with [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m] [name_m]Ambrose[/name_m]. If I can get hubby on board, [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m] just may take the top spot. Thank you! And thanks for your thoughts on the girls’ combos, too. (You, too, @raptreverie!)

I like [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] [name_f]Chiara[/name_f] [kee-AHR-ah].

Ditto for [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m] [name_m]Ambrose[/name_m] “[name_u]Sam[/name_u]”! That would be so awesome. Hopefully your DH loves it, too.

Unfortunately, he doesn’t. :frowning: He thinks [name_u]Sam[/name_u] is okay as an occasional nickname but not as the “official” nickname because it would be annoying when people assume it is short for [name_m]Samuel[/name_m]. (Which he does have a point about that. I get super annoyed when people think my formal name is [name_f]Megan[/name_f].) Oh, well, it was a good idea. Maybe I can learn to fall in love with [name_m]Bastian[/name_m]? I’m not going to worry about it too much unless we find out for sure this one is a boy.

Anyway, thanks, everybody for the votes and comments. Looks like the clear favorites were [name_f]Cecile[/name_f] and [name_f]Cosima[/name_f]! I also really loving [name_f]Emmanuelle[/name_f], so I think those will be the (final) finalists.

My eye was immediately drawn to [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] [name_f]Cosima[/name_f].

[name_f]Penelope[/name_f] [name_f]Cosima[/name_f] is my favorite, it’s striking. Notable mentions would be [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] [name_f]Chiara[/name_f] and [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] [name_f]Lourdes[/name_f]. I like [name_f]Emmanuelle[/name_f] and [name_f]Euphemia[/name_f] too but they don’t pop as much paired with [name_f]Penelope[/name_f].
