Which version of John, if any?

I’m going to be changing my son’s name from [name_m]John[/name_m] to [name_m]Edmund[/name_m] soon, and I’m still deciding if I would like to keep a variation of [name_m]John[/name_m] as a middle name. His name is currently [name_m]John[/name_m] [name_u]Zephyr[/name_u], but we only call him [name_u]Teddy[/name_u].

We are looking at [name_m]Ian[/name_m]/[name_m]Iain[/name_m], [name_m]Eoin[/name_m] and [name_m]Sean[/name_m] as variations. Which do you think of;
[name_m]Edmund[/name_m] [name_m]Ian[/name_m]/[name_m]Iain[/name_m] [name_u]Zephyr[/name_u]
[name_m]Edmund[/name_m] [name_m]Eoin[/name_m] [name_u]Zephyr[/name_u]
[name_m]Edmund[/name_m] [name_m]Sean[/name_m] [name_u]Zephyr[/name_u]
or just [name_m]Edmund[/name_m] [name_u]Zephyr[/name_u]

His little sister is [name_f]Iris[/name_f] [name_f]Isobel[/name_f] [name_f]Xanthe[/name_f].

To my ear the flow seems off with [name_u]Zephyr[/name_u] at the end with two middles. If two is preferred, I would go with [name_m]Edmund[/name_m] [name_u]Zephyr[/name_u] [name_m]Sean[/name_m]. Otherwise [name_m]Edmund[/name_m] [name_u]Zephyr[/name_u] is quite nice.

Of the three, I prefer the sound of [name_m]Sean[/name_m]'s single syllable over the others. With his sister, I think [name_m]Edmund[/name_m] [name_m]Sean[/name_m] [name_u]Zephyr[/name_u] works best.

I think [name_m]Edmund[/name_m] [name_m]Sean[/name_m] [name_u]Zephyr[/name_u] is my favourite from the three (love [name_m]Edmund[/name_m], btw!).

[name_m]Edmund[/name_m] [name_m]Ian[/name_m] [name_u]Zephyr[/name_u] or [name_m]Edmund[/name_m] [name_u]Zephyr[/name_u] [name_m]Jack[/name_m]. [name_m]Jack[/name_m] is a diminutive of [name_m]John[/name_m].

Out of your choices I like [name_m]Sean[/name_m]. But I think [name_m]Edmund[/name_m] [name_m]Jonah[/name_m] [name_u]Zephyr[/name_u] sounds good too. I know [name_m]Jonah[/name_m] is not a variant of [name_m]John[/name_m], but it is close.

[name_m]Edmund[/name_m] [name_m]Eoin[/name_m] [name_u]Zephyr[/name_u]. I like that it’s got visual alliteration like his little sister’s name, but in both cases the sounds of the double initials aren’t actually the same. Plus [name_m]Eoin[/name_m] is a great name!

I like that about [name_m]Eoin[/name_m] too, @katinka, in truth its my favourite of the three. My partner isn’t sold on it though.

@autumnreverie we did discuss [name_m]Jack[/name_m] but decided it was too close to [name_m]John[/name_m] for us.

@amynic I really like the sound of [name_m]Jonah[/name_m], but to me its feels very [name_m]Christian[/name_m], so it puts me off it. (Not anything wrong with being [name_m]Christian[/name_m], but as an atheist family it would feel out of place.)

What about [name_m]Ivan[/name_m], [name_m]Ivo[/name_m], [name_u]Shane[/name_u], or [name_u]Evan[/name_u]?

[name_m]Edmund[/name_m] [name_m]Eoin[/name_m] [name_u]Zephyr[/name_u] doesn’t have the best flow but I love all three names & mimics [name_f]Iris[/name_f] [name_f]Isobel[/name_f] [name_f]Xanthe[/name_f]'s repeating letters. A nice subtle connection.

Thanks @autumnreverie. I do like [name_m]Ivo[/name_m] and [name_m]Ivan[/name_m], but I don’t like how they sound with [name_m]Edmund[/name_m]. We don’t like [name_u]Evan[/name_u] and [name_u]Shane[/name_u].
