[name_m]Henry[/name_m] [name_u]James[/name_u] is a famous writer, so I vote [name_u]James[/name_u] [name_m]Henry[/name_m]. But it depends on which you’d rather call him!
[name_u]James[/name_u] [name_m]Henry[/name_m] “Polanski” has great flow-- 1-2-3 syllables, all with the stresses in the right place.
Thanks for your comments [name_m]Blade[/name_m]! So helpful.
If posters could comment on which you voted for & why - would also be a huge help with trying to decide. thanks!
[name_m]Henry[/name_m] [name_u]James[/name_u]. [name_u]James[/name_u] feels too common to me, although in reality [name_m]Henry[/name_m] is just as popular nowadays anyway. I guess I just prefer [name_m]Henry[/name_m]. [name_m]Both[/name_m] are common enough names and surnames a quick search brings up a bunch of famous people so I don’t think you should worry about that too much either way.
Agree 100%
I picked [name_m]Henry[/name_m] [name_u]James[/name_u] because I like the way it flows, even though [name_m]Blade[/name_m]'s example has a nice flow to it as well. [name_u]James[/name_u] seems more common to me, especially with [name_u]Jameson[/name_u] slowly becoming more popular.
Yes I would tend to agree that [name_u]James[/name_u] is/feels more common but my husband seems to favour [name_u]James[/name_u] slightly, & I favour [name_m]Henry[/name_m] slightly more as it feels slightly less ‘expected’ in our family, I was supposed to be a [name_u]James[/name_u] had I been a boy so it would come as no surprise to anyone if we used [name_u]James[/name_u] :)!
I prefer the flow of [name_m]Henry[/name_m] [name_u]James[/name_u] but as [name_m]Henry[/name_m] [name_u]James[/name_u] is a famous writer, I went for [name_u]James[/name_u] [name_m]Henry[/name_m].
[name_m]Henry[/name_m] [name_u]James[/name_u] is too famous to dismiss, and [name_u]James[/name_u] [name_m]Henry[/name_m] is too obviously a reversal of [name_m]Henry[/name_m] [name_u]James[/name_u], so I picked ‘other’. [name_u]James[/name_u] [name_m]Isaac[/name_m] is alright. I might go with something more like [name_u]James[/name_u] [name_m]Bennett[/name_m], [name_u]James[/name_u] [name_m]Ozias[/name_m], [name_u]James[/name_u] unusual family surname. Definitely something distinctive next to [name_u]James[/name_u].
Also agree.
[name_m]Henry[/name_m] [name_u]James[/name_u] - just flows better imo! [name_m]Both[/name_m] are high on my list
Hah, thanks. We have very similar tastes in names, I just love classics & a touch of vintage charm. [name_m]George[/name_m] & [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] I adore too.
I would not use [name_m]Henry[/name_m] [name_u]James[/name_u] unless you are intending to choose the writer as your child’s namesake. It does flow best of the three options imo but I think the association of the writer with this name is very strong so if it doesn’t have meaning for you, I would personally choose another option. I really like [name_u]James[/name_u] [name_m]Isaac[/name_m]!
[name_u]Love[/name_u] both names, slightly prefer [name_m]Henry[/name_m] for no particular reason. Although [name_m]Henry[/name_m] [name_u]James[/name_u] makes me think of the writer, unless you hyphenate the name, I doubt many people will notice. I would choose the name you both really love (say it out loud a hundred times!) and then pick the middle name. If honouring relatives means a lot to you, I would choose the names that mean the most to you, not what “flows” the best. Good [name_m]Luck[/name_m]!
I chose [name_u]James[/name_u] [name_m]Henry[/name_m], because I slightly prefer the name [name_u]James[/name_u] to [name_m]Henry[/name_m] and so I personally would rather see that up front. I don’t think that [name_m]Henry[/name_m] [name_u]James[/name_u] the writer should discourage you from choosing that though because both names could be a surname and I am sure there is a famous [name_u]James[/name_u] [name_m]Henry[/name_m] also. Honestly, I was 100% sure there was a writer named [name_m]Henry[/name_m] [name_u]James[/name_u] until I saw other posts (and I do consider myself well read), so I wouldn’t worry about that.
The association with the writer doesn’t bother us since they are such strong family names, plus he wouldn’t be known as [name_m]Henry[/name_m] [name_u]James[/name_u], he’d be known mostly as just [name_m]Henry[/name_m] or [name_m]Henry[/name_m] ‘surname’. [name_u]James[/name_u] [name_m]Bennett[/name_m] was on my list for sometime too as I love the meaning, and [name_u]James[/name_u] Murdoch was another potential as Murdoch is a family maiden name.
I voted for [name_u]James[/name_u] [name_m]Henry[/name_m] but both are lovely! The only reason I ended up picking [name_u]James[/name_u] [name_m]Henry[/name_m] is because he’ll mostly go by just first and last name in everyday situations and [name_m]Henry[/name_m] P----ski has the same ending sound
Agreed! Although I like [name_m]Henry[/name_m] better than [name_u]James[/name_u], so I’d be tempted to opt for [name_m]Henry[/name_m] [name_u]James[/name_u], just so [name_m]Henry[/name_m] made more sense, but I like the nn options with [name_u]James[/name_u] more than [name_m]Henry[/name_m] (I think [name_u]Jamie[/name_u]'s adorable! But I do like [name_m]Harry[/name_m], too…). I would probably do something like [name_m]Henry[/name_m] [name_m]Isaac[/name_m] [name_u]James[/name_u], just so I could have [name_m]Henry[/name_m] up front, but I wouldn’t sound like a relentless [name_m]Henry[/name_m] [name_u]James[/name_u] fan.
Ashthedreamer : If dh agreed to 2 mn’s I absolutely [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] the combo [name_m]Henry[/name_m] [name_m]Bennett[/name_m] [name_u]James[/name_u]… but sadly 2 mn’s has been vetoed thus far. He wants [name_u]James[/name_u], so I think if I got [name_m]Henry[/name_m] I’d just have to be happy for that :). I do love [name_u]James[/name_u] too I’m just worried about it seemingly lacking that little sparkle, but my grandads memory certainly gives it that something special.
i voted for [name_u]James[/name_u] [name_m]Henry[/name_m]. I like both names very much, but lately [name_m]Henry[/name_m] is being used everywhere, whereas [name_u]James[/name_u] I hear as a first name much less frequently now.
I like [name_u]James[/name_u] [name_m]Isaac[/name_m] a lot too, but wasn’t sure of the importance of [name_m]Isaac[/name_m]?
