Why are so many against Gaelic and Celtic names?

I’m in a baby discussion group… and it’s predominantly American (although the group itself is run by people from all over the world) but you get a lot of Americans commenting more than anyone else.

I’ve come to notice that whenever a Gaelic or Celtic name gets used, a lot will make fun of it, question the person using it, say it ‘looks wrong’ or ‘made up’ or that ‘unless you spell it [insert a certain spelling] it will be mispronounced’ etc (these are the polite ones). A few examples; I love the name [name_m]Macsen[/name_m] - a traditional Welsh name. I had someone tell me to spell it Maxson because otherwise the spelling looks ‘illiterate’. I love the name [name_m]Oisin[/name_m]… I got told ‘why not just name him [name_u]Ocean[/name_u]’. Then others say ‘[name_m]Cillian[/name_m]’ will not be accepted as a name in [name_u]America[/name_u] unless spelt with a ‘K’.

I know this isn’t all [name_u]America[/name_u], and believe me there are people here in the UK who are like this… but I’m just wondering why is it some people are so ignorant and quick to dismiss Gaelic and Celtic (two very beautiful languages), or any beautiful language for that matter unless it is a ‘Westernised’ name. I just find it a little ignorant to be honest…

Has anyone else noticed this when discussing names? Wherever you’re from.

(sorry if this is the wrong place to discuss it, I didn’t know what category to put it in to be honest).

*Also I’m not complaining about an entire country, just about the people in this group, and others who think like this - that ‘names should be a certain way’.
