Why did Emily have to be so popular?

[name_f]Emily[/name_f] is such a gorgeous name! I’m a huge fan of [name_f]Emily[/name_f] Brontë, [name_f]Emily[/name_f] [name_m]Dickinson[/name_m], the meaning is perfect, and I love the books [name_f]Emma[/name_f] and [name_f]Emily[/name_f]'s Runaway [name_f]Imagination[/name_f], so it fits on so many levels!

Yet I know so many Emilys and Emmas and now Emmelines and Emmalyns and Emilias … all the variations seem tired to me. When I think of authors and poets and books, it’s easy for me to separate that out, but it’s so popular! I must know at least a few dozen people with the name if not more - and dozens of variations, too!

So at this point, I’m thinking of it as a middle name. Either [name_f]Emily[/name_f] (not the most exciting spelling, but I’m an author, and these are my heroes!) or [name_f]Emilyn[/name_f], because it’s a play on my pen name ([name_m]Kellyn[/name_m], combining my first and middle!), my grandmother would love me forever ([name_u]Lyn[/name_u] is a family name), and it flows well.

I wouldn’t be picky about pronunciation of [name_f]Emilyn[/name_f] because I’m not that way. [name_f]Emma[/name_f]-lyn, [name_m]Emil[/name_m]-in, etc. It’s all fine with me; I’m laid back like that. It’s not super tricky to spell (“traditional [name_f]Emily[/name_f] with an N on the end” is an easy explanation if it ever comes up), and used as a middle name, so chances are, it’ll only come up occasionally.

Anything else I can’t thought of?

And here are some combo ideas:

[name_f]Keira[/name_f] [name_f]Emilyn[/name_f]
[name_f]Gwen[/name_f] [name_f]Emilyn[/name_f]
[name_u]Blair[/name_u] [name_f]Emilyn[/name_f]
[name_u]Blaire[/name_u] [name_f]Emilyn[/name_f] (I can never decide if I like the E or not)
[name_u]Ruby[/name_u] [name_f]Emilyn[/name_f]
[name_f]Maeve[/name_f] [name_f]Emilyn[/name_f]

And basically all of those could work with [name_f]Emily[/name_f], too, though I’m sorta leaning toward double namesakes.

Really really love [name_u]Blair[/name_u] [name_f]Emilyn[/name_f] and [name_f]Keira[/name_f] [name_f]Emilyn[/name_f]! [name_f]Emilyn[/name_f] sounds awesome!

P.S. If you love it so much, use it as a first name. [name_f]Emily[/name_f] is popular for a reason, and its a classic, beautiful name suited any type of people.

I’m with you. [name_f]Emily[/name_f] is a name I’ve loved for most of my life, one of best friends is an [name_f]Emily[/name_f], I played “[name_f]Emily[/name_f]” in the play Our Town, I love the authors too, I think it’s just a name that is easy to love. It’s a name that’s popular because it’s such a great name! I personally love just plain [name_f]Emily[/name_f] but I also like [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f]. [name_f]Emilyn[/name_f] I’ve never seen before, but I think it’s nice! I think it’s a good call to put in the middle, especially as a way to a namesake name.

I like all of your choices, but especially like [name_u]Ruby[/name_u] [name_f]Emilyn[/name_f]. I think [name_u]Ruby[/name_u] is so spunky and fun and unique but recognizable, plus I think it works nicely with [name_f]Emilyn[/name_f].

Keira Emilyn is gorgeous! You could use Emily as a middle name. Another alternative is Emilia pronounced Emma-leah.

[name_u]Blaire[/name_u] [name_f]Emilyn[/name_f] and [name_f]Maeve[/name_f] [name_f]Emilyn[/name_f] are lovely

I absolutely love [name_f]Emily[/name_f] too and I think it works with many of your options. A few more ideas:

[name_f]Claire[/name_f] [name_f]Emily[/name_f]
[name_f]Nora[/name_f] [name_f]Emily[/name_f]
[name_f]Ada[/name_f] [name_f]Emily[/name_f]
[name_f]Eve[/name_f] [name_f]Emily[/name_f]
[name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_f]Emily[/name_f]
[name_f]Tess[/name_f] [name_f]Emily[/name_f]
[name_f]Mae[/name_f] [name_f]Emily[/name_f]
[name_u]June[/name_u] [name_f]Emily[/name_f]
[name_f]Isla[/name_f] [name_f]Emily[/name_f]
[name_f]Ivy[/name_f] [name_f]Emilyn[/name_f]
Colette Emily
Bridget Emily
Mila Emily

I definitely understand your frustration about [name_f]Emily[/name_f]! Such a pretty name with some fantastic namesakes, but also (unfortunately) crazy popular for the last several decades.

[name_u]Blair[/name_u] [name_f]Emilyn[/name_f] is really nice!

[name_u]Ruby[/name_u] [name_f]Emilyn[/name_f] & [name_f]Maeve[/name_f] [name_f]Emilyn[/name_f] sound particularly great, imho!

Though I’ve never heard of it before, I really like [name_f]Emilyn[/name_f] for all the reasons you listed, and I honestly think you could consider it as a first name, if you wanted to. (In which case, [name_f]Emilyn[/name_f] [name_f]Keira[/name_f] would be adorable.)

I agree with you about [name_f]Emily[/name_f]!

I like all your first names except I’d stick with [name_u]Blair[/name_u] spelling. [name_f]Maeve[/name_f] and [name_f]Keira[/name_f] are my favourites, but [name_u]Ruby[/name_u] and [name_f]Gwen[/name_f] are appealing too.

Thanks, everyone! Right now I’m leaning toward [name_f]Keira[/name_f] [name_f]Emilyn[/name_f] - [name_f]Keira[/name_f] has been my first choice for a girl name for about 3 years, maybe a bit more, so it just might stick, too!

I like [name_f]Emilyn[/name_f] a lot - it’s a very clever way for you to honour the name you love, as well as a nod to your pen name and family name.

Of your choices, [name_f]Maeve[/name_f] [name_f]Emilyn[/name_f] is definitely my favourite. [name_u]Ruby[/name_u] [name_f]Emilyn[/name_f] is okay but a little trendy. The rest aren’t really my style.

I like [name_f]Emily[/name_f]-[name_f]Rose[/name_f]. the reason so many people are using it is because they either love it or it is an honour name for them. (I use Australian spelling for honour)

Thanks! I do love [name_f]Maeve[/name_f] [name_f]Emilyn[/name_f], so that and [name_f]Keira[/name_f] [name_f]Emilyn[/name_f] are kinda a toss-up. I feel like [name_u]Ruby[/name_u] is a name I’ll always love but might not end up using … we’ll see, though, of course!
