I actually love Chloé, it’s such a classic. I think it went through a spell of popularity in the 90s and 00s that put people off it because it became too “common” but its actually such an elegant name. I’m in love with the name [name_f]Clover[/name_f] at the moment and Chloé is a natural nickname for this name, although you’d probably spell it slightly differently. I’m also a big fan of [name_f]Cleo[/name_f], which seems to get more love than Chloé, perhaps because it’s a bit more unusual?
This thread is 9 months old, but perhaps OP would still appreciate feedback?
I think [name_f]Chloe[/name_f] is quite elegant. Perhaps [name_f]Khloe[/name_f] Kardashian and other famous young teenagers named [name_f]Chloe[/name_f] have somewhat tainted the name as unserious, but I love [name_f]Chloe[/name_f]’s meaning of “young green shoot” and its cloud-like imagery. Despite its trendy levels today, it’s certainly not a recent manufacture. Have you ever read [name_m]Daphnis[/name_m] & [name_f]Chloe[/name_f]? [name_f]Chloe[/name_f] stretches all the way back to Ancient Greece and has lived to tell the tale today with thousands of girls wearing the name in their own style.
[name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] is gorgeous too. It’s certainly heavier and has the lovely [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f]’s [name_m]Web[/name_m] as its most famous literary cred, whereas [name_f]Chloe[/name_f] could fit a fairy and yet is established enough to still warrant respect. They’re both great names that I wouldn’t sneer at either.
Ultimately, [name_f]Chloe[/name_f]’s a bright and happy name that you shouldn’t feel shame over at all
This thread is quite old but now that it’s been brought up again, I figured I’d chime in since my name is [name_f]Chloe[/name_f]! When my parents named me (mid/late 90s), they had barely heard of the name, and everyone they told it to had trouble spelling and pronouncing it, so they thought it was very unique. Evidently, so did lots of other parents who also used the name that year! I don’t think I’ve ever met a [name_f]Chloe[/name_f] who was older than me, so I suppose my parents were just at the start of the trend.
I’ve always liked my name. Yes, it got quite popular in the 2000s, but it has deep roots in Greek mythology (it’s the alternate name for [name_u]Demeter[/name_u]) and I love the meaning and myth associated with it. I’ve met many other Chloes, and the popularity does bother me a bit, but I don’t ever feel like my name is a “trendy” name, because it has such a long history of use. I was almost named some very typical 90s names, and I much prefer [name_f]Chloe[/name_f]. I’m definitely a bit biased, but I think it’s a great name
I’m just not a fan. It might be [name_f]Khloe[/name_f] Kardashian that’s throwing me off, but generally I just don’t like the name. I prefer [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] ([name_u]Or[/name_u] [name_f]Colette[/name_f] for something similar!), but if you love it, go for it!
Chloe is to me my parents’ late beloved Norwegian [name_u]Forest[/name_u] cat so I have positive associations.
I think the name might seem cloying to some.
I think [name_f]Chloe[/name_f] is a beautiful name, but very popular. I think it’s in the top 40 right now.
That being said, the first mention of [name_f]Chloe[/name_f] is in the the Bible so it’s definitely has strong roots, which I think it neat.
I think if you like [name_f]Chloe[/name_f], go for it. It’s popular for a reason.
I don’t understand this opinion either. I guess [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] is having it’s moment right now because [name_f]Princess[/name_f] [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f]. I personally much prefer [name_f]Chloe[/name_f] to [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f], though. Also, adn I hope this is okay to say, I’ve met plenty of [name_f]Chloe[/name_f]’s and [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f]’s in my life, and in my experience the [name_f]Chloe[/name_f]’s tend to be a lot friendlier.
Like you said, [name_f]Chloe[/name_f] is a classic name. If you and your partner love [name_f]Chloe[/name_f], that’s all that matters.
Both are good picks in my opinion. I adore [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f], but I have nothing against [name_f]Chloe[/name_f] - I definitely don’t see it as dated or anything like that. It’s definitely a safe, solid pick. All that matters is you and your OH love it, don’t worry about other opinions - I’m sure if you’d gone with [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] you’d have encountered people who don’t like that name either
