So we decided on [name_f]Chloe[/name_f]. It was a close tie between [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] & [name_f]Chloe[/name_f]. I thought [name_f]Chloe[/name_f] was a safe, classic name. Almost everyone says that [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] is way better than [name_f]Chloe[/name_f]. Some people even say that [name_f]Chloe[/name_f] is a dated name. Others won’t really say why they don’t like [name_f]Chloe[/name_f], just that they simply don’t like the name. Am I missing something? What are everyone’s thoughts on [name_f]Chloe[/name_f]? Is it dated?
I don’t have anything against [name_f]Chloe[/name_f] especially because two of my favorite people are named [name_f]Chloe[/name_f], but I feel like it’s similar to [name_u]Alexis[/name_u] or [name_u]Madison[/name_u] where for a long time it was very popular and because of that, it became bland after a while for some people? I think if you pair it with a more unique middle, something that compliments it nicely, it could be a beautiful combo.
I think it’s because it’s popular but not vintage, classic or elegant. It’s not really a nameberry style name if that makes sense.
[name_f]Chloe[/name_f] is lovely though- it has a beautiful sound and meaning
I think [name_f]Chloe[/name_f] is sweet! I know a 3 year old named [name_f]Chloe[/name_f] and she is just the cutest thing.
[name_f]Chloe[/name_f] was the 25th most popular baby name in the United States in 2018, so your selection is very much in style. I like the “kl” sound of the first syllable, but dislike the “oh-ee” sound of the second syllable.
[name_f]Chloe[/name_f] is a name that has been common my whole life (b. 1999). It’s a sweet name and I really like the oh-ee sound (I’m a fan of [name_f]Zoe[/name_f] as well). For me, [name_f]Chloe[/name_f] is a common name that I don’t get tired of. I haven’t met a ton of girls named [name_f]Chloe[/name_f], now that I think about it, but I hear it frequently. It’s not like [name_f]Emma[/name_f] or [name_f]Hannah[/name_f] where I’m a bit bored of meeting girls with those names. However, it isn’t something that shines for me either. I would be delighted to meet a little [name_f]Chloe[/name_f] and I actually prefer the name over [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f], but it isn’t special enough to be something I’d use on a daughter of mine.
I hope this makes sense?
Basically what sparkleninja said, only difference I prefer [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f].
Both are fine in their own right, but [name_f]Chloe[/name_f] doesn’t do for me.
I think you hit the nail on the head when you said it’s a safe choice. Nothing wrong with “safe” names, but also nothing particularly distinctive about them, either.
Thanks everyone. I guess I’m just surprised at the number of people who hate the name [name_f]Chloe[/name_f]. I thought it was a classic name, similar to [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f]. I wasn’t aware of how popular the name was a decade ago, I’ve never met a [name_f]Chloe[/name_f]. My husband thinks that it was ruined by [name_f]Khloe[/name_f] Kardashian, lol.
[name_f]Chloe[/name_f] has been very popular over the last few years but that is for a reason. It is a lovely name. You should choose the name you love for your daughter. It’s unfortunate that others have made negative comments that have shaken your confidence but know that you aren’t missing anything negative about the name, it has just been very common.
[name_m]Hi[/name_m] there.
I’m not sure why people hate [name_f]Chloe[/name_f]. I think that is has a sweet, girly lovely sound to it. It’s been in the top 100 for twenty years, yet I don’t think that I’ve ever met one. I meet Zoes a bunch. I meet Charlottes a bunch too. That’s why for me, [name_f]Chloe[/name_f] is actually fresher. If it’s the name you love, definitely go for it. [name_m]Don[/name_m]'t worry about what anyone else thinks.
[name_f]Hope[/name_f] this helps.
Thanks. I know it shouldn’t bother me or shake my confidence, my husband is annoyed that I’m sharing the name with people. This is our 3rd & it’s so hard this time around to find the perfect name…
Thank you. That’s exactly how I feel…like I’m missing something negative. Ugh. I regret sharing the name now & getting feedback from family & friends. This is my 3rd…I should’ve learned my lesson by now.
Hm, I’m guessing it’s because of how popular it was. I rather like it though it’s not entirely my style! All the Chloes I’ve met have been really sweet. I say if you like it, go for it! I actually hear it less than [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] for young girls!
My dog is [name_f]Chloe[/name_f] and I chose it because I loved the sound of it. I much prefer it to [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f], which may be more traditionally classic, but to me is less fun (if that makes sense). I’m usually drawn to names that I enjoy saying. I don’t think it’s dated, although I knew of it from a 1980s movie and also a co-worker had a little [name_f]Chloe[/name_f] c. 2008 which was where I learned of it from. Other than that, I haven’t come across it, so to me it’s not popular or dated.
If you love the name, use it. It’s so hard to name a baby, let alone a third baby. They’ll come around or get over it once she’s here. I went through this with my first and got a lot of not-so-lovely comments when I said his name would be [name_u]Finn[/name_u]. They’d never heard of it before and were expecting something like [name_u]James[/name_u] or [name_m]Christopher[/name_m]. Once he was born I never heard another word about it. I really think that names come and go out of style all the time, are associated with celebrities (like Kardashian), and there’s a lot you can’t control. So if you love it, use it. Good luck!
I love [name_f]Chloe[/name_f]!
I think people like to hear “trendy” names so maybe they’re a bit ho-hum about [name_f]Chloe[/name_f]??? Although I personally find [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] ho-hum and much prefer [name_f]Chloe[/name_f].
Well done on making a decision, everyone else will get over it
Both [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] and [name_f]Chloe[/name_f] are lovely names. If you like them, use them. They are certainly not weird or other the top, so I don’t know what the problem is supposed to be.
One thing has surprised me. [name_f]CHarLOttE[/name_f] has [name_f]Chloe[/name_f] right in it. [name_f]Chloe[/name_f] could be a nn for [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] instead of [name_u]Charlie[/name_u] or [name_f]Lotte[/name_f] or [name_f]Lottie[/name_f].
Definitely agree with @babies123456 and @greyblue. It’s a sweet name, I don’t hate it at all, but it does feel slightly dated to me because I grew up with a ton of [name_f]Chloe[/name_f]’s (seriously, so many!). [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] just feels more trans-generational if that makes sense?
FWIW, I don’t think [name_f]Khloe[/name_f] K has ruined the name! That actually feels like a completely separate name to me, even though they do sound identical, I don’t think of it the same was as [name_f]Chloe[/name_f] at all!
Personally, I know a [name_f]Chloe[/name_f] who I do not like, so the name is somewhat tarnished for me. However, before I met her, I enjoyed the use of the name. It can be very sophisticated and beautiful if it suits the person who bears the name.
I don’t think Chloé is dated at all! It’s personally nms though (and neither is Zoey for that matter— still, nothing wrong with either of these names). I am starting to quite like Clio (only this spelling) though.
I will admit my feelings on Chloé are definitely colored by the fact that my very dear friend with this name strongly dislikes it (to the point that she’s legally changing it) but there are a lot of factors there that don’t all have to do with the name itself. I’ve known this friend almost a decade and haven’t called her Chloé in maybe… 8 years?
Echoing the sentiment of others, even with my friend’s negative feelings about the name, I wasn’t at all aware that Chloé was disliked by a lot of people, if anything, I thought it was popular. I certainly don’t think there’s anything about the name that makes it not usable.
