Why does this happen.......?

I am posting the following for a friend who is seeking feedback. When she was pregnant with her first child, her belly was smooth and bald (hairless). However, when she got pregnant with her 2nd, she grew tons of hair on her belly (she even thought she was having a boy this time because of it, but it turned out it was another little girl  ). She had her 2nd baby but her hair never went away (as some people told her it would). [name]Do[/name] any of you know the cause of this or experienced the same body symptoms?

Your feedback is much appreciated!

I know with all the hormones coming out, it is most likely normal. For me, acne was something that hit me hard with pregnancy before but not for each one. It didnt linger though. I know heridity and different medical conditions can cause hair to grow on a woman in places it normally does not.

It’s actually really common to grow more or lose hair when you are pregnant or just had a baby! It is due to all the hormones changed you go through while you’re pregnant. For some women the continue with their hormones being out of balance even after their baby is born maybe she should go to the Dr and get it checked out? If she is breastfeeding that would also contribute to her hormones not returning to normal
I lost hair while I was pregnant and my 2nd is nearly one and it’s only just starting to go back to normal. It’s really horrible and thin but there isn’t anything I can do about it. Plus she was worth it

It’s a very common pregnancy symptom in Caucasians. It has nothing to do with whether or not the baby is a boy (a tiny boy fetus could never in a million years secrete enough androgens to affect his mom), but estrogen does promote hair growth, and you have estrogen in spades. The reverse is also why post-menopausal women’s hair thins.

As for why it happened in the second pregnancy but not the first, that’s one of the mysteries of the universe. She’s older, she’s no longer a first-time mother… but really, who knows?
