It strikes me as a little odd that I see [name_f]Millie[/name_f] and even [name_f]Lilly[/name_f] suggested as nicknames for [name_f]Emilia[/name_f], but not [name_f]Ella[/name_f] or [name_f]Ellie[/name_f]. Aside from [name_f]Emma[/name_f], to me [name_f]Ella[/name_f] is the most obvious one. Am I wrong?
I think you can use any nickname you like as long as it’s not very far fetched, Ella and Ellie work well for Emilia even though I prefer Millie / Mimi / Mia myself. The suggestions probably stem as Millie is the most common nn for Amelia (as far as I’m aware) which can be deemed as very similiar to Emilia.
Also (edited to add): Ella and Ellie are very common first names here in the UK and are also used alot as nicknames for many E names with that “Elle” sound in them so that could be why many people want to stay away from them.
That makes sense, thank you. [name_f]Ella[/name_f] is popular here too so I guess I was trying to think outside the box. It might be easier to just use [name_f]Ella[/name_f] instead of trying to get it through a nickname, though.
I think [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] and [name_f]Ella[/name_f] could work easily, but I wonder if the reason people don’t leap to them is because [name_f]Ella[/name_f] is very much a name in its own right and [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] is the popular nickname of lots of other [name_f]El[/name_f]- names, so I guess you’re more likely to choose [name_f]Emilia[/name_f] if you want Em/Emmy/Emma or [name_f]Millie[/name_f]
[name_m]Ah[/name_m], you’re right. Thank you. I like both, but slightly prefer [name_f]Ella[/name_f] so maybe just [name_f]Ella[/name_f] then.
For me, anything can be a nickname. [name_f]Ella[/name_f] and [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] are perfectly fine nicknames for [name_f]Emilia[/name_f]. They may be more intuitive for names that start with [name_f]El[/name_f]- but are also usable in names such as [name_f]Emilia[/name_f].
[name_f]Lilly[/name_f] and Ella/Ellie make equally little sense, while [name_f]Millie[/name_f] makes a lot, IMO.
I really like Ella and Ellie with Emilia. Where I live, Ella/Ellie is usually a nn for Eleanor, Elizabeth or Isabella and Emma/Emmy/Millie is a nn for Emilia. I think it’s very easily interchangeable though.
I love that. They’re all such pretty names. I really like both Ella/Ellie and Emma/Emmy. If I could decide between those 2 I’d probably just do that.
You could use it, sure, but the [name_u]Mil[/name_u] is right in the middle of [name_f]Emilia[/name_f], and [name_f]Em[/name_f] at the front of it… I think they’re much more intuitive for that reason. [name_u]An[/name_u] [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] nn [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] would make more sense to me, but I still think you can do it for [name_f]Emilia[/name_f], just slightly more of a stretch?
I hadn’t thought of it before but [name_f]Ella[/name_f] definitely makes eense as a nickname for [name_f]Emilia[/name_f].
