I really love the name [name_f]Isla[/name_f], but why is it so popular and why do people like it so much?
Is it a trendy name or is it classic?

I’ve never heard it on anyone, young or old (in [name_f]Canada[/name_f]). Not sure if it’s just a popular name on here or if it’s actually being used but I wouldn’t consider it too trendy.
Because of the actress? [name_f]Isla[/name_f] [name_m]Fisher[/name_m]…
She was popular for a while and it is a easy name to work with.
You can’t go wrong with combinations, [name_f]Isla[/name_f] [name_f]Robyn[/name_f], [name_f]Isla[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f], [name_f]Isla[/name_f] [name_f]Amalia[/name_f], [name_f]Isla[/name_f] [name_f]Kate[/name_f] it really fits with everything!
I think it’s trendy. I think people started to use it when [name_f]Isla[/name_f] [name_m]Fisher[/name_m] became popular. It’s a pretty name though.
I love [name_f]Isla[/name_f], but I’ve only met one, and she was in her early 20s and used the [name_f]Ayla[/name_f] spelling but pronounced it like [name_f]Isla[/name_f]. My absolute favorite combo is [name_f]Isla[/name_f] [name_u]Wren[/name_u], which I consider one of the trendier names I like, but I think it’s a name that still ages well.
In the US, it’s not super popular — it was #103 in 2017. I’m in NYC and we have a grade school aged neighbor named [name_f]Isla[/name_f]. She’s the only [name_f]Isla[/name_f] I know.
It’s at No. 4 in the UK. So I know tons of little girls named [name_f]Isla[/name_f].
Why do you really love the name? I suspect your answers will be the reason why lots of other people also love the name and that’s why it’s popular.
On a more meta level, it has the strong I (eye) sound which is currently on trend ([name_f]Ivy[/name_f], [name_f]Eliza[/name_f], [name_f]Heidi[/name_f]) and it ends in -a like [name_f]Amelia[/name_f], [name_f]Olivia[/name_f], [name_f]Emma[/name_f], [name_f]Ella[/name_f] etc. so it fits a cross section of the current popular names.
I don’t think it’s particularly ‘classic’ like names such as [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] or [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] but there’s also a difference, in my opinion, between ‘trendy’ and ‘popular’. [name_f]Isla[/name_f] is popular but I don’t think it’s particularly ‘trendy’. Especially if you are not in the UK!
I think it started to raise in popularity after actress [name_f]Isla[/name_f] [name_m]Fisher[/name_m] rolled out onto the scene in Wedding Crashers. I dont think people were necessarily naming their children directly after her…it was probably more of a “Oh thats so pretty and [name_m]Ive[/name_m] never heard it before. My child will be so unique with that name”.
I’d consider it trendy, but not trendy like [name_f]Neveah[/name_f] or Makynzleigh. It’s a pretty name, simple to say and spell and means “island” so it brings to mind a summery or beachy feel.
It just hits a lot of markers for names that are on trend right now. Starts with a vowel, hard eye sound, ends in -a, short and fairly straightforward, sounds unique to most adults. It also probably has a lot to do with the actress as others have said. So yes, I would probably consider it trendy.
I live in the US and I have to say, where I live I’ve met 6 little girls named [name_f]Isla[/name_f] (although two of them spell it differently, one [name_f]Ayla[/name_f], one [name_f]Eyla[/name_f]). It’s actually becoming very popular in my state I’m finding so that could be why I consider it more “trendy” than others.
That said, I do think it’s pretty and only an issue if popularity bothers you!
I don’t understand the popularity of [name_f]Isla[/name_f]. I always have to think about how to pronounce it…is it eye-la or iz-la?
