Can [name]Wilber[/name] work in modern day? it seems to fit my style perfectly…[name]Chaucer[/name], [name]Jasper[/name], [name]Thatcher[/name], [name]Wilber[/name]? It has cool nn [name]Will[/name] and cool ending er. and has great hero [name]William[/name] Wilberforce who hed be named after. wdyt? doable or would he be forever that cute little pig? lol
oh, forgot to add. [name]Wilber[/name] [name]Charleston[/name] [name]David[/name] would be full name if that helps
Sorry but all I can think about are the pig from [name]Charlotte[/name]'s [name]Web[/name] and the Mr. [name]Ed[/name]'s owner ([name]Wil[/name]-burrrrr). I do like the nickname [name]Will[/name] but there are better ways to get it ([name]William[/name], for instance). If you really love it, I would suggest putting it in the middle.
It’s forever [name]Charlotte[/name]'s [name]Web[/name] for me haha.
I thought of the pig immediately. However, if I knew a little boy with the name, I think it would be cute.
Sorry, but my first thought is pig. I think [name]Willis[/name] has some potential, though.
While I do like the nn [name]Will[/name], and you did come up with an ideal combo considering the name… I don’t think [name]Wilbur[/name] is very usable for a first name. A boy named [name]Wilbur[/name] would get too many pig/[name]Charlotte[/name]'s [name]Web[/name] comments and teasing. He would always have to brace himself for that. [name]Even[/name] the nicest people may find it hard to resist remarking about the association. I don’t think the name [name]Wilbur[/name] would be appreciated or serve any boy or man well in this day and age.
I don’t think that the [name]Charlotte[/name]'s [name]Web[/name] connection is bad, I just prefer [name]Willoughby[/name].
[name]Willoughby[/name]>[name]Wilton[/name]>[name]Wilson[/name]>[name]Wilkes[/name]>[name]Wilder[/name]>[name]Willis[/name]>[name]Willard[/name] (nn. [name]Wild[/name])>[name]Wilbur[/name]>[name]Wilber[/name]
I also like that the traditational [name]William[/name] can have the nn. [name]Wim[/name].
[name]How[/name] about Willer?
immediately thinks of pigs [name]How[/name] about no?
I like [name]Will[/name] just fine. And honestly, you could always just name him [name]Will[/name]. But I would go with [name]William[/name] or someone else mentioned [name]Willis[/name], which I think is another decent choice. [name]Even[/name] if [name]Wilber[/name]/[name]Wilbur[/name] doesn’t make YOU think of the pig too much, it will make everyone else think of it. So I’m afraid that he’ll be the punch line of every pig joke during his life. If [name]Wilbur[/name] were a tiger, I’d be a little more lenient. But even that would get old. And [name]Wilbur[/name] is a pig - not the most desirable animal to be compared to.
I can’t get past the pig, and since [name]Charlotte[/name]'s [name]Web[/name] is still a well-loved book, I think kids today will still be exposed to it. Particularly unfortunate for young Wilbers with poor table manners, of great girth, or who like to roll in the mud!
My husband loves the name Wilberforce due to the [name]William[/name] Wilberforce connection, but I can’t imagine using it for a child. Maybe in the middle spot. Maybe. I started getting my husband to use some of his less appealing favorites to name his shop equipment and such (odd, I know, but it works). Our lawnmower is Wilberforce, nn Wilby. I have to say, since the lawnmower was named Wilberforce, the name has grown on me, mostly due to the adorable nn Wilby, which could also be used for [name]Wilber[/name].
If you want to name a child after special Wilbers or [name]Williams[/name], you might consider [name]Wilson[/name], which I absolutely adore, or [name]Willis[/name].
Honestly, I do think of the book, but I really think this is a cute name that deserves a rehab.
The truth is that while newcomers may think of that when they hear the name, when they meet and spend time with a [name]Wilbur[/name], it will just become his name. And frankly, when I think of a little tow-haired boy playing soccer with the name [name]Wilbur[/name] nn [name]Will[/name] it really sounds cute as hell.
[name]One[/name] thing to consider, though - [name]William[/name] itself is extremely popular right now, so though there may not be a ton of Wilburs in his class, there are certain to be other [name]Wills[/name].
Also, what about [name]Walden[/name] nn [name]Wally[/name]? That gives you a bit of literary flair and the W if that’s what you’re after.
Naw i think it’s cute! pig and all! there’s always [name]Will[/name] as a nickanem if it’s a bit too…porcine lol.
This is hilarious! And Wilby is too cute!
As for [name]Wilber[/name], keep in mind that the traditional spelling is [name]Wilbur[/name], and if you give him your favorite -er ending, he will forever be correcting people on the spelling of his name. I like the above suggestion of [name]Wilson[/name], and you may also like [name]Wilder[/name] to get your -er ending, though [name]Will[/name] doesn’t seem like a natural nickname for a [name]Wilder[/name]. Maybe [name]Wiley[/name]?
cute but all i think of is the pig
yep, thought of the pig… but I like [name]Willis[/name] and [name]Wilson[/name]
Sorry, but I instantly thought of [name]Wilbur[/name]
I love the name [name]Wilber[/name]! I think a little boy with this name would be cute. Maybe I’m too young to realize the Mr. [name]Ed[/name] thing, but I don’t associate it with [name]Charlotte[/name]'s [name]Web[/name] at all. [name]Even[/name] if I did, that little pig was such an inspiration. Did anyone ever read this book? If this is the case, why isn’t the name [name]Charlotte[/name] shunned? Name reasoning really makes me sad sometimes.
haha love the comments! the pig isn’ t a bad association at all. he’s way cute lol!
love love Wilby!
