We love the name [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] but I’m not in love with [name_f]Aud[/name_f] (odd). I feel like inevitably it will be shortened to that.
Is anyone named or know someone named [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] that can chime in? Thank you!

I had a friend named [name_f]Audrey[/name_f]. No one ever called her [name_f]Aud[/name_f] at all. I think the name is short enough it doesn’t need a nickname, also even if people do shorten it, I think Drey is more commonly used?
I know an [name_f]Audrey[/name_f], and she never goes by [name_f]Aud[/name_f], just always [name_f]Audrey[/name_f].
I know an elderly [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] and I’ve never heard anyone call her [name_f]Aud[/name_f].
I think maybe once in a blue moon someone will say [name_f]Aud[/name_f] or Audj, but definitely not often. No [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] I know is frequently called [name_f]Aud[/name_f].
This is holding me back from using the name [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] as well. Especially Audj, it’s terrible. So I’m interested in hearing other opinions.
We have [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] [name_u]June[/name_u] nn AJ high on our list but I don’t think just [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] would ever get shortened to [name_f]Aud[/name_f]. [name_f]Audi[/name_f] is cute though
I know an [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] who is just [name_f]Audrey[/name_f]. It doesn’t need shortening and I don’t consider [name_f]Aud[/name_f]/Auds as a natural nickname for [name_f]Audrey[/name_f].
I’ve never known an [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] that went by a nickname. They were always just [name_f]Audrey[/name_f]. I agree that the name is short enough to avoid nicknames.
I would also like to add that not every person likes or uses nicknames. My name could easily be shortened into a nickname, but I hate it when people do that so they don’t.
There always has to be one dissenter, right? One of my best friends’ name is [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] and she is almost always [name_f]Aud[/name_f], never Audj, sometimes [name_f]Audey[/name_f]. I knew an [name_u]Adria[/name_u] once who was often shortened to “Age”. So there is precedent for either, but I agree with a pp that you can to some extent control nicknames. I simply correct everyone when they shorten my name, very politely but persistently until they get the point. It’s not a big deal.
I’ve never heard of an [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] called [name_f]Aud[/name_f]. It’s not a natural nickname imo.
I babysat for a family who had a daughter named [name_f]Audrey[/name_f]. Her little brother couldn’t pronounce the “R” so he called her [name_f]Audey[/name_f].
I know 3 [name_f]Audrey[/name_f]'s, and I have never once heard any of them be called [name_f]Aud[/name_f].
I wouldn’t think that it was at all an instinctive nickname. [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] is really short enough that you don’t really need a nickname! I wouldn’t waste too much time worrying about [name_f]Aud[/name_f]…
[name_u]Nick[/name_u] names most often come from the family. If you don’t start calling her [name_f]Aud[/name_f], it is unlikely anyone else will. Plus saying “[name_f]Aud[/name_f]” just feels odd (slight pun there?)…
I would not worry about it. I have a name that commonly gets shortened in to a nickname and never once in my life did any one ever successfully get a nickname to stick for me. I’ve always gone by and only respond to my full name.
[name_m]Don[/name_m]'t let the thought of [name_f]Aud[/name_f] discourage you. I really doubt it would ever become a thing.
My great grandma was [name_f]Audrey[/name_f]. No one ever call her [name_f]Aud[/name_f]. She had one neice who couldn’t say her name correctly when she was little and called her [name_f]Audi[/name_f]. She would occasionally do it as an adult just to bother her. “Hey Aunt [name_f]Audi[/name_f]!!”. A few times, someone would sometimes call her AJ to bother too because she didn’t like her MN. But mostly, she was just [name_f]Audrey[/name_f].
I know two girls named [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] and I have never heard their names been shortened to [name_f]Aud[/name_f].
I doubt it…and if someone does call her that, if you put your foot down they’re bound to stop.
The only [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] I know does get called [name_f]Aud[/name_f] by friends. I don’t know if it’s family nickname too or only friends. I never thought it sounded like ‘odd’. But seems like most people don’t use that nickname so I’d still go for it.
I know a 3 yr old [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] and her nn is something completely different than her name … not aud
