Will she like her name?

I am sorry mandyjai I have to take issue with you on the comment re those names being considered outrageous on an adult. As one of the [name]Baby[/name] Boomers I can assure you that no one thought that the quoted names were wrong or outrageous they were seen as lovely names, they were not considered to be weird, out there or only suitable for a child.

However on [name]Paisley[/name] question I think it is a lovely name and cannot see any problems at all if you choose to use it.

[name]Paisley[/name] is nms but I do think its really cute. I could see it age with an adult too. To me if she’s a doctor, lawyer, or whatever… her name shouldn’t matter and I actually think that [name]Paisley[/name] will set her apart bc there wouldn’t be too many. I would go see a Dr. [name]Paisley[/name]! I live in the Southern US, and have met a few babies named [name]Paisley[/name] so its not that far fetched of a name to me. I personally wold not name my child that, but my initial reaction to the name isn’t negative its more “Oh, that’s cute.” Good [name]Luck[/name]!

I agree with this comment completely.

While [name]Paisley[/name] is nms, I knew one once, when she was about 14-17, she didn’t go by her name, pretty sure she didn’t like it at all. She went by [name]Betty[/name]. It was years before I heard anyone actually call her [name]Paisley[/name], and even then, it was Pais.

Having seen media articles about a little pagent girl named [name]Paisley[/name] dressed disturbingly as [name]Julia[/name] [name]Roberts[/name] in ‘Pretty Woman’ I would suggest thinking twice about possible links with that. Although, who knows it will probably be last weeks news soon.

Interesting discussion. [name]Paisley[/name] is definitely a stylish name of the moment, which is why it feels baby appropriate to many but not suitable for a grown woman. But, as a few have pointed out, one day most Paisleys will not be babies or little girls but grownups and then – like [name]Ashley[/name] and [name]Jennifer[/name] and [name]Debbie[/name] before her – the name will feel more like a young woman’s name, or a middle-aged woman’s name, and eventually an old lady’s name than a little girl’s name purely because most people named [name]Paisley[/name] will have been born in this decade.

There are girl’s names that are truly timeless, like [name]Katherine[/name] or [name]Elizabeth[/name], and then there are others – many more others – that are pegged to a specific moment in time. [name]Even[/name] names that we now consider classics such as [name]Anna[/name] or [name]Sarah[/name] or [name]Emma[/name] would have been thought of as terribly old-fashioned, even ugly, in the 1950s or 60s, just as [name]Barbara[/name] or [name]Shirley[/name] are now.

The bottom line: [name]Paisley[/name] may be a trendier name than many but I don’t think that means that a 47-year-old [name]Paisley[/name] is going to feel like she has a little girl’s name. A half century from now, few little girls will be named [name]Paisley[/name] as it will be seen as middle-aged.

I agree with everything [name]Pam[/name] wrote.

From a personal standpoint, I love the way [name]Paisley[/name] looks when written, but it’s kind of awkward and clunky when I say it out loud. I think it’s just a matter of personal preference as well - I am planning to give my children more classic/timeless names that will grow with them as a person, as opposed to naming just a baby.

I definitely think she’ll fit in with her peers, though, if that’s what you’re concerned about.

I think your little girl would get a very positive response to her name if you named her [name]Paisley[/name]. Here’s why I think that:

9 years ago I named my cat [name]Paisley[/name]. It’s not that I think it’s a “pet’s name,” it’s just that I really love the name but it’s not really my style for a child. I’ve always had tons of compliments on the cat’s name.

Fastforward to 2009, when I named my daughter [name]Helena[/name]. I got comments like, “Wow, you chose such a great name for your cat, I was really expecting something cooler for your daughter,” and “You are so much better at naming pets than kids!”

So, I think go for it with [name]Paisley[/name]–everyone will love it! [name]Just[/name] don’t name her sister [name]Helena[/name].

I went to high school with a girl named [name]Paisley[/name], aaand she was kind of a b****… not to mention she didn’t have a good reputation. I personally love the pattern, but not as a name. I have a friend who named his puppy [name]Paisley[/name], just to put that in perspective.

[name]How[/name] about something like [name]Rosette[/name] instead? Not a conventional name, but still pretty, not to mention transferable to older ages

I would give her a more old-fashioned type middle name then. I like it fine though. If i picked a unusual first name then I would give a more common simple middle name and vice versa.
