Pregnant with a little boy and my husband and I love the name [name_u]William[/name_u]! For when he is young, I think the nickname [name_m]Willy[/name_m] is kind of cute. [name_f]My[/name_f] 2 older daughters have nicknames ending in Y so though it could go well. Thoughts on [name_m]Willy[/name_m]?
Might not be an issue where you are, but where I am [name_m]Willy[/name_m] is used as a euphemism for penis , one often used by parents to their sons and by little kids themselves so…
It’s cute. People don’t use Willy for slang where I’m from in the US. The only negative I can think of giving someone a “wet willy” but I think this was sort of antiquated even when I was a kid. Billy is also a common option that ends in y.
Oh I also think of Free Willy the movies haha
I’m from the US and though I don’t really hear it being used as a euphemism much in real life it’s still the first thing I think of when I hear the name. Though it is a cute nickname and I don’t think it would be a big problem as long as it’s short for something.
[name_u]William[/name_u] is such a great name! If you want the -y ending I would go for [name_u]Billy[/name_u]. [name_m]Even[/name_m] though the slang term isn’t common usage in the US I’m still aware of it.
I just think of the slang word willy so wouldn’t use it personally. I really like Wilby as a nickname for [name_u]William[/name_u] as a similar alternative.
Dubious. I love [name_m]Willem[/name_m] and [name_u]Wilkie[/name_u].
I prefer [name_u]Billy[/name_u], [name_u]Wiley[/name_u], and [name_u]Wilkie[/name_u] / Wilky personally, as I associate [name_m]Willy[/name_m] with the slang word, but I don’t mind it too much.
[name_u]William[/name_u] is wonderful, but I prefer [name_u]Billy[/name_u], [name_u]Wiley[/name_u], or [name_u]Liam[/name_u] to [name_m]Willy[/name_m] as my first association is the slang term.
I’m aware of the slang term but it’s never used where I’m from and I know a [name_m]Willy[/name_m] and the thought has never crossed my mind with him
What about [name_m]Wills[/name_m]?
I think it’s fine, if the slang term isn’t commonly used where you are.
