William Nicknames and people opinions.

So i made a post awhile ago about girls name well we found out ITS ANOTHER BOY! I am extremely excited!!

[name]How[/name] does [name]William[/name] [name]Cecil[/name] sound?

[name]Do[/name] you think people will pick a name to shorten it to or can we tell them what we want him to called? I am worried about people calling him 5 different things and the poor boy will just be all kinds of confused.

He will be joining older brother [name]Isaiah[/name].

[name]William[/name] is one of my top picks for a future son. I think its really handsome. I don’t care for [name]Cecil[/name] though, sorry. I’ve known [name]Williams[/name] who go by [name]Liam[/name]/[name]Lee[/name]/[name]Will[/name]/[name]Billy[/name]/[name]Bill[/name]. I say just choose your favourite and enforce it.

[name]Cecil[/name] is my husbands grandpas name… I prefer [name]Liam[/name] if we are going to shroten it but everyone keeps telling me that they hate that and wont call him that. I then tell them they can call him just william then and they get all miffed about it! Saying they will call him [name]Will[/name]. Does anyone else have this problem?/

[name]How[/name] strange… [name]Liam[/name] is such a popular name and a cute nn! If you call him [name]Liam[/name] and introduce him as [name]Liam[/name], I’m sure people will come on board and call him that too. [name]William[/name] is a good, strong name too and it’s not that long or difficult to say, it doesn’t absolutely require a nn. I think that people just like giving their opinions and trying to make others agree with them while they’re still making up their minds -but once you’ve made up your mind and named your son and there’s no turning back… they’ll get on board and go along with you

Ugh, I hate that! [name]William[/name] is lovely, and I love the nn [name]Liam[/name] for it.

I have the same problem with my top choice for a girl–[name]Isabelle[/name], nn [name]Bella[/name]. There’s a million reasons why I love it, and I’m about 99% sure that’ll be my first daughter’s name, when I have a daughter, years from now, but my family has already voiced their lack of love for it. My brother finds [name]Isabelle[/name] too Twilighty, and my mom think [name]Bella[/name] sounds like a guys’ name (in her defense, my elementary school principal had this whole second-identity-clown thing that he did with the gymnastics team at my school, and he came out every single year and had his whole thing, and he’s ruined the idea of [name]Bella[/name] as a girls’ name for my mom). I’m pretty sure they said that they wouldn’t call my daughter either of those names, ugh.

When [name]Benjamin[/name] was my favorite boys’ name, I specifically told them, “If I have a [name]Benjamin[/name], he will NOT be a [name]Benji[/name].” I absolutely hate that nn–it’s fine for someone else, but that would not have been what my [name]Benjamin[/name] went by. He would be [name]Benjamin[/name], or [name]Ben[/name]. But they still insisted that, “if he was cute enough,” they would call him [name]Benji[/name].

Ugh. This is why I try and make sure I love all the nicknames for all the names I like now. haha. I wouldn’t give up [name]William[/name], though–as @lilysong said, [name]Liam[/name] is such a well-known, cute, loved boys’ name now! I would just keep to it and insist he goes by [name]Liam[/name] or [name]William[/name]. Hopefully, they’ll come around eventually. But if not, what about just [name]Liam[/name] [name]Cecil[/name]?

Good luck!

We picked [name]William[/name] for my Moms grandpa and we just love [name]William[/name]. It is such a strong name! I think [name]Liam[/name] is strong as well just a little too popular. I know [name]William[/name] is in the top 5 but I cant remember the last time I personally met a [name]William[/name]. Is there any nn that I am missing that could come from [name]William[/name]: [name]Will[/name], [name]Willy[/name], [name]Bill[/name], [name]Billy[/name], [name]Liam[/name], [name]Lee[/name]?

Personally i think [name]Isaiah[/name] is more of a mouth full than [name]William[/name]!! People have also tried to shorten my sons name to Zaiah, big family fight over that one! lol Hopefully since we stuck to our guns on that, people will listen this time!

[name]LOVE[/name] the name [name]Benjamin[/name] and [name]Isabelle[/name]. I love how formal / old fashioned they sound without being shortened. [name]Benji[/name] is not a favorite of mine either, but [name]Ben[/name] and [name]Benjamin[/name] are just amazing.

Thank you all!

I like nicknames [name]Will[/name] and [name]Billy[/name]. [name]Will[/name] would go better with the more formal [name]Isaiah[/name].

I know some parents get miffed if you don’t call their child a certain nickname and I kind of understand but it seems controlling. Nicknames are chosen out of affection so why block that? If only grandpa calls him [name]Billy[/name]-boy then that’s a special bond just between them. If his future girlfriend calls him Wils then that’s special

My 3yr old neice [name]Cori[/name] has so many nicknames and there is no confusion. I’m the only one that calls her Puff (her main nn is [name]Coco[/name]). [name]One[/name] day my mom called out “Puff” and she came looking for me because she associates that nn with me.

At first my sister hated that grandpa only called her son by his middle name [name]Mark[/name] but she got over it when she realized that that wasn’t a big deal. When grandpa died it became very special to her

[name]William[/name] [name]Cecil[/name] sounds very dignified [name]IMO[/name]. [name]Don[/name]'t worry about the nn thing, it’ll work itself out:) I like [name]William[/name] and [name]Isaiah[/name]. GL!
