Winifred/Winifrid

For some reason this is growing on me today. I [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] [name_f]Winnie[/name_f], but I don’t love a lot of the longer options. What do you think of [name_f]Winifred[/name_f]? Is it worth using alternate spelling [name_f]Winifrid[/name_f] to get rid of the fred at the end? Does it totally clash with [name_u]Juniper[/name_u] as a sibling name? She goes by [name_u]June[/name_u] 99% of the time, and a baby [name_f]Winifred[/name_f] would be [name_f]Winnie[/name_f] about as often most likely.

[name_f]Winifred[/name_f] isn’t awful, but I’m just not a fan. I can see why you’d want to get rid of the fred at the end, but I don’t think people would be likely to spell [name_f]Winifrid[/name_f] right off the bat. If that wouldn’t bother you, then I think it is worth further consideration. I think [name_f]Winifred[/name_f] and [name_u]Juniper[/name_u] are slightly mis-matched. Both do have an old-timey feel, but [name_u]Juniper[/name_u] seems fresher somehow (maybe because it has picked back up in the last few years?) [name_f]Winnie[/name_f] and [name_u]June[/name_u] are super sweet sister names

I’m in a similar boat with [name_f]Winnie[/name_f]. I’ve loved it for years, but I just don’t care for any longer forms either. My husband and I have decided that, would we ever use it, we’d just use [name_f]Winnie[/name_f]. I’m normally a stickler for having a more formal name on the birth certificate, but I think [name_f]Winnie[/name_f] can stand on its own.

I love [name_f]Winnie[/name_f], but not [name_f]Winifred[/name_f], I think because of the -fred. I will say it is growing on me, but it seems much less cute than [name_u]Juniper[/name_u]. [name_f]Winifrid[/name_f] looks like a misspelling to me.

You have probably looked at these, but I think some of the other [name_f]Winnie[/name_f] options are nice – [name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f], [name_f]Gwyneth[/name_f], [name_u]Winter[/name_u], [name_u]Wynn[/name_u]. [name_u]June[/name_u] and [name_f]Winnie[/name_f] would be really cute.

I actually quite like [name_f]Winifrid[/name_f] - I, too, am not a huge fan of -fred (despite my love of [name_m]Frederic[/name_m]!). I think [name_f]Winnie[/name_f]'s super cute and goes brilliantly with [name_u]June[/name_u] (I love [name_u]Juniper[/name_u] nn [name_u]June[/name_u], too!).

I don’t like [name_f]Winifred[/name_f]/Winifried. It is way too old lady for my liking and I don’t think it goes well with modern, nature-esque [name_u]Juniper[/name_u]. Have you considered [name_f]Elowen[/name_f]? That’s my all-time favorite [name_f]Winnie[/name_f]/[name_u]Wynn[/name_u] name!

I love [name_f]Winifred[/name_f] and [name_f]Winnie[/name_f]. I think [name_u]Juniper[/name_u] and [name_f]Winifred[/name_f] and [name_f]Winnie[/name_f] and [name_u]June[/name_u] both sound great together. I prefer traditional spellings. I think people generally pronounce it like -frid rather than -fred, so I think the spelling change isn’t necessary.

I love [name_f]Winifred[/name_f]! I think it goes well with [name_u]Juniper[/name_u]!

I really like [name_f]Winnie[/name_f]/[name_f]Winifred[/name_f], but can’t use them because my partner’s last name starts with “[name_m]Fred[/name_m]”. As someone previously suggested, you could use [name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f] (I’m pretty sure that was [name_f]Winnie[/name_f] [name_m]Cooper[/name_m]'s first name?)

To match [name_u]Juniper[/name_u] style-wise, you could also use [name_u]Winter[/name_u] or [name_f]Winslet[/name_f].

I like [name_f]Winnie[/name_f], but as much as I love [name_f]Frederica[/name_f](NN [name_u]Freddie[/name_u]) I can’t stand [name_f]Winifred[/name_f]. But that might be a Hocus Pocus/[name_f]Bette[/name_f] Midler connection that is driving that hatred for me.

[name_f]Winifred[/name_f] is my preferred spelling. I love it, but it’s a bold choice. You can also use [name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f] to get to [name_f]Winnie[/name_f].

I don’t personally like the [name_m]Fred[/name_m]-ending of [name_f]Winifred[/name_f], and I worry that it might incite teasing, or a girl would not feel very feminine with a name ending in -[name_m]Fred[/name_m]. The [name_f]Winifrid[/name_f] spelling has medieval overtones for me, as in [name_m]Beowulf[/name_m] or Aethelstan, and I think it would be misspelled constantly. I do love nn [name_f]Winnie[/name_f] though! I knew a girl who was just [name_f]Winnie[/name_f], and I think it could totally work. It feels less insubstantial and “childish” than many other vintage style nicknames such as [name_f]Tilly[/name_f] and [name_f]Lottie[/name_f]. That being said, have you considered [name_f]Guinevere[/name_f] as a full name for [name_f]Winnie[/name_f]? I think it’s just so enchanting.

I’d go for the classic [name_f]Winifred[/name_f], easier in the long run for spelling. What about [name_u]Winter[/name_u] instead? It has a freshness that I think [name_u]Juniper[/name_u] has too.

I adore [name_f]Winifred[/name_f]!

I think [name_f]Winifred[/name_f] is fabulous – spunky, funky, a little bit clunky. Definitely ripe for revival.

My favorite is [name_u]Wynne[/name_u], nickname [name_f]Winnie[/name_f].

[name_f]Winifred[/name_f] is gorgeous name - I first fell in love with it after watching [name_m]Tuck[/name_m] Everlasting. I also like the suggestion of [name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f] / [name_f]Gwendolen[/name_f] “[name_f]Winnie[/name_f]”.

I think [name_f]Winifred[/name_f] is quite cute especially with the nickname [name_f]Winnie[/name_f]!

I also love [name_f]Winnie[/name_f], and [name_f]Winifred[/name_f] has been growing on me lately! (It’s definitely the Hocus Pocus association. Although, that makes me love the name more)

I think [name_u]Juniper[/name_u] and [name_f]Winifred[/name_f], [name_u]June[/name_u] & [name_f]Winnie[/name_f], make a super sweet pair of sisters!

I like [name_u]Winter[/name_u], [name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f], [name_f]Guinevere[/name_f], and [name_f]Winona[/name_f] with the nickname [name_f]Winnie[/name_f] too.

I think [name_f]Winifred[/name_f] is pretty cute and is as spunky and sweet as [name_u]Juniper[/name_u]. [name_u]June[/name_u] and [name_f]Winnie[/name_f] would be darling. I like the suggestion of [name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f] too.

I really like [name_f]Winifred[/name_f], and don’t think it mismatched with [name_u]Juniper[/name_u] (though it’s not what I’d pick for a “matchy” sibset, if that makes sense).
I’d keep the traditional spelling, but if you want more [name_f]Winnie[/name_f] names to consider, how about:
[name_f]Gwyneira[/name_f]
[name_f]Alwyne[/name_f]
[name_u]Winslow[/name_u]
[name_f]Morwenna[/name_f]
Merewen
[name_f]Anwen[/name_f]
[name_f]Olwen[/name_f]
[name_f]Rhoswen[/name_f]
[name_f]Bronwen[/name_f]
[name_f]Branwen[/name_f]
[name_f]Rowena[/name_f]
[name_f]Edwina[/name_f]
[name_f]Arianwen[/name_f]
