Winifred...?

Hello NB! I’d love your opinions/suggestions on something. [name_f]Winifred[/name_f] [name_f]Opal[/name_f] was my [name_f]Winifred[/name_f] combo for a while, and then I had to go and create [name_f]Opal[/name_f] [name_f]Mathilde[/name_f]. Now I need a new [name_f]Winifred[/name_f] combo. I’m looking for something with the same short, simple feel of [name_f]Opal[/name_f], but I’d also like it not to be super popular. A word name would be ideal but not required. I have a few possibilities already:

[name_f]Winifred[/name_f] [name_f]Iris[/name_f]: currently in my signature, and I really like this one. That said, I’m not totally in love with this, sadly. I’d love to know what imagery comes to mind when you read [name_f]Winifred[/name_f] [name_f]Iris[/name_f]! It might help me love the name.

[name_f]Winifred[/name_f] [name_f]Jade[/name_f]: this one was born more of my desire to find combos for both [name_f]Winifred[/name_f] and [name_f]Jade[/name_f]. I’m not a huge fan of the flow, although I do like the imagery.

[name_f]Winifred[/name_f] [name_f]Briar[/name_f]: my original [name_f]Winifred[/name_f] combo. I’ve gotten feedback that the names together were too fairytale or that [name_f]Briar[/name_f] is too modern to go with [name_f]Winifred[/name_f], and that did strongly affect my view of the combo.

[name_f]Winifred[/name_f] [name_f]Pearl[/name_f]: I like it, but don’t love it.

I’d love opinions on these combos and/or suggestions for similar names. Thanks!

[name_f]Winifred[/name_f] [name_f]Iris[/name_f] sounds very poetic and elegant. I was trying to think along the lines of [name_f]Winifred[/name_f] [name_u]Sage[/name_u] or [name_f]Winifred[/name_f] [name_f]Lark[/name_f], but I like [name_f]Iris[/name_f] better.

[name_f]Winifred[/name_f] [name_f]Iris[/name_f] is pretty! I also like [name_f]Winifred[/name_f] [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] quite a bit. However, [name_f]Winifred[/name_f] [name_f]Briar[/name_f] is definitely my favorite! I think it’s just the right amount of fairy tale. It makes me think of little girls making bracelets out of daises in the forest or something!
What about [name_f]Winifred[/name_f] [name_u]June[/name_u]/[name_f]Joy[/name_f]/[name_f]Belle[/name_f]/[name_f]Ruth[/name_f]/[name_u]Rue[/name_u]/[name_f]Snow[/name_f]?

Out of your list I like [name_f]Winifred[/name_f] [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] the best. I also like the suggestion of [name_f]Winifred[/name_f] [name_f]Snow[/name_f].

What about:

Thanks, all! I love the suggestions of [name_f]Winifred[/name_f] [name_u]True[/name_u], [name_f]Winifred[/name_f] [name_f]Snow[/name_f], [name_f]Winifred[/name_f] [name_f]Lark[/name_f], and [name_f]Winifred[/name_f] [name_f]Lux[/name_f], and thanks for the feedback on my original list!

To me [name_f]Winifred[/name_f] is really bubbly, fun, enthusiastic and always trying to help. I can imagine her with rosy cheeks and a permanent smile; she’d probably want to work with kids and love arts and crafts. I think [name_f]Iris[/name_f] fits best with [name_f]Winifred[/name_f], she’s kind, gentle and caring, but a little lighter in sound. [name_f]Briar[/name_f] feels a bit too heavy with [name_f]Winifred[/name_f], and [name_f]Jade[/name_f] feels quite modern. It might be because I had a [name_f]Jade[/name_f] in my class, so I already have an association with it, but she just doesn’t go with [name_f]Winifred[/name_f] in my opinion. [name_f]Winifred[/name_f] [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] would probably be my second favourite, but I think [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] is a little sophisticated(?) with [name_f]Winifred[/name_f], I’m not sure if that’s the right word, but pearl’s make me think of necklaces, elegance and grown up stuff haha. I do like the vintage feel of [name_f]Winifred[/name_f] [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] though. I currently have [name_f]Winifred[/name_f] [name_f]Lilac[/name_f] waiting for a second middle, on my maybe list.

I think [name_f]Winifred[/name_f] [name_f]Briar[/name_f] is absolutely [name_f]LOVELY[/name_f]! I love it so much that I may have to steal it for my own list. I don’t think [name_f]Briar[/name_f] is too modern! I think the newer, more quirky [name_f]Briar[/name_f] balances out the older, classic [name_f]Winifred[/name_f]. I do get a rather fairytale feel from the pairing but that’s part of what makes me love it so much. And the names aren’t so overwhelmingly fairytale as to be off-putting. This is definitely a new favorite of mine. The others are lovely as well but I do so hope that you stick with [name_f]Winifred[/name_f] [name_f]Briar[/name_f]!

Thank you both!

@myosotis, thanks for the imagery! It really helps to know how people picture the name [name_f]Winifred[/name_f]. (And ooh, [name_f]Winifred[/name_f] [name_f]Lilac[/name_f] is lovely. I hope you find a second middle you love!)

@mckennafussell: thank you! That’s really encouraging to read. And whether or not I stick with [name_f]Winifred[/name_f] [name_f]Briar[/name_f], absolutely feel free to steal it for your list!

I think I’ve narrowed my original list down a lot now ([name_f]Winifred[/name_f] [name_f]Iris[/name_f] and [name_f]Winifred[/name_f] [name_f]Briar[/name_f]- the feedback this thread has given has really reignited my love for those two) and I’m also considering a few of the combos suggested. The fairytale feel of [name_f]Winifred[/name_f] [name_f]Briar[/name_f] is a huge reason why I loved it so it’s nice to hear that it isn’t too much.

Thanks, everyone! This helps a lot.

I adore [name_f]Winifred[/name_f] [name_f]Lilac[/name_f]

[name_f]Winifred[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f]
[name_f]Winifred[/name_f] [name_f]Hazel[/name_f]
[name_f]Winifred[/name_f] [name_u]August[/name_u]
[name_f]Winifred[/name_f] [name_f]Dawn[/name_f]
[name_f]Winifred[/name_f] [name_f]Nova[/name_f]

[name_f]Winifred[/name_f] [name_f]Briar[/name_f] is AWESOME!

I agree, [name_f]Winifred[/name_f] [name_f]Briar[/name_f] is perfect! There is something gentle and solemn about [name_f]Winifred[/name_f] for me, making me think of tiny old chapels and stained glass windows, and a thoughtful girl with a beautiful smile. [name_f]Briar[/name_f] somehow manages to complement this while bringing out the whimsy in [name_f]Winifred[/name_f] - I think of mossy forest glens, wild roses, and old Brothers Grimm stories.

I don’t think I can offer a suggestion that would emulate [name_f]Winifred[/name_f] [name_f]Briar[/name_f]; perhaps something leafy such as [name_f]Winifred[/name_f] [name_f]Fern[/name_f] or [name_f]Winifred[/name_f] [name_f]Ivy[/name_f], or a bird name such as [name_f]Winifred[/name_f] [name_u]Dove[/name_u] or [name_f]Winifred[/name_f] Laerke?

[name_f]Winifred[/name_f] [name_f]Iris[/name_f] is lovely too, but much more ladylike, refined and “Edwardian lady” in feel.

I love the name [name_f]Winifred[/name_f]! These combos are great, [name_f]Winifred[/name_f] [name_f]Opal[/name_f], [name_f]Winifred[/name_f] [name_f]Briar[/name_f] and [name_f]Winifred[/name_f] [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] being my favourites.

I don’t think [name_f]Winifred[/name_f] [name_f]Briar[/name_f] is too fairytale at all, even if it was, I don’t think that’s a bad thing.

Other ideas:
[name_f]Winifred[/name_f] [name_f]Lara[/name_f]
[name_f]Winifred[/name_f] [name_u]Blair[/name_u]
[name_f]Winifred[/name_f] [name_u]Brooke[/name_u]
[name_f]Winifred[/name_f] [name_u]Skye[/name_u]
[name_f]Winifred[/name_f] [name_f]Raine[/name_f]
[name_f]Winifred[/name_f] [name_f]Lace[/name_f]/[name_f]Lacy[/name_f]

I love [name_f]Winifred[/name_f] [name_f]Briar[/name_f] & [name_f]Winifred[/name_f] [name_f]Iris[/name_f]. [name_f]Iris[/name_f] plays up her vintage feel and has a more “classic” feel. [name_f]Briar[/name_f] is a more whimsical and magical. I love the playfulness [name_f]Briar[/name_f] adds to the combo, I’d say [name_f]Winifred[/name_f] [name_f]Iris[/name_f] is a more “serious” combo.

I also love [name_f]Winifred[/name_f] [name_f]Lilac[/name_f] - it’s nice medium between [name_f]Briar[/name_f] and [name_f]Iris[/name_f] softens [name_f]Winifred[/name_f] up a bit!

Thanks all! I love the additional suggestions of [name_f]Winifred[/name_f] [name_f]Nova[/name_f], [name_f]Winifred[/name_f] [name_f]Ivy[/name_f], and [name_f]Winifred[/name_f] [name_f]Lace[/name_f].

I think [name_f]Winifred[/name_f] [name_f]Briar[/name_f] has come out on top, at least for now. I love all the imagery you’ve described!

Thanks again to everyone!

For me [name_f]Winifred[/name_f] is Edwardian old-fashioned…lace [name_f]Bertha[/name_f] collars, tea in the afternoon, [name_m]Gibson[/name_m] Girl pompadours. [name_f]Briar[/name_f] moves [name_f]Winifred[/name_f] from the sedate to the whimsical & I really like the combination of the two names. [name_f]Iris[/name_f] is one of my favorite names, but it keeps [name_f]Winifred[/name_f] in the Edwardian feel, at least for me.

Maybe…

[name_f]Winifred[/name_f] [name_f]Lavender[/name_f] (too frilly & out there?)
[name_f]Winifred[/name_f] [name_f]Sonnet[/name_f]
[name_f]Winifred[/name_f] [name_f]Alyssa[/name_f] (from the flower alyssum) or [name_f]Winifred[/name_f] [name_f]Alice[/name_f]/[name_f]Alys[/name_f]
[name_f]Winifred[/name_f] [name_f]Laurel[/name_f]
[name_f]Winifred[/name_f] [name_f]Jemima[/name_f]
[name_f]Winifred[/name_f] [name_f]May[/name_f]
[name_f]Winifred[/name_f] [name_f]Mauve[/name_f]
[name_f]Winifred[/name_f] [name_f]Daphne[/name_f] (which means laurel)
[name_f]Winifred[/name_f] [name_f]Aisling[/name_f] ([name_u]Ash[/name_u]-ling, meaning dream)
[name_f]Winifred[/name_f] [name_f]Reverie[/name_f] (too long & frilly?)
[name_f]Winifred[/name_f] [name_f]Autumn[/name_f]

Good luck!

[name_f]Winifred[/name_f] [name_f]Alice[/name_f] is one of my favorites. I love your [name_f]Winifred[/name_f] [name_f]Iris[/name_f] and the previous suggestions of [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] and [name_f]Lilac[/name_f]. Since it’s so strongly Edwardian to me, I like to stick with that theme for the middle (but something a little simpler and more popular/familiar than [name_f]Winifred[/name_f]). [name_f]Winifred[/name_f] [name_f]Violet[/name_f] or [name_f]Winifred[/name_f] [name_f]Olive[/name_f] would also be cute.

Thanks! I love the suggestions of [name_f]Winifred[/name_f] [name_f]Lavender[/name_f] and [name_f]Winifred[/name_f] [name_f]Violet[/name_f]!

I have a [name_f]Winifred[/name_f] [name_f]Pearl[/name_f]. We mostly call her [name_f]Winnie[/name_f]. She’s #6. We also have [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] [name_f]Ninetta[/name_f], [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] [name_f]Victoria[/name_f], [name_m]William[/name_m] [name_m]Dabney[/name_m], [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] Pereira, and [name_m]Charles[/name_m] [name_u]Vernon[/name_u]. Now expecting #7 and quite lost for names! ”
