Winona/Wynona?

If you’ve been seeing my posts to know I don’t love names ending in A but I’ve been reconsidering [name_f]Winona[/name_f]. When I got pregnant with my son [name_u]Arthur[/name_u], we were pretty much settled on [name_f]Winona[/name_f] had he been a girl. [name_f]My[/name_f] SO has family connections to a native american tribe, but near zero blood relation, and I have more native blood (~13%, so very little still) but my family doesn’t have any ties to a tribe or tribal culture, so I worry it might irk some people for a white to have a native name. [name_f]My[/name_f] SO had a great grandmother named [name_f]Wynette[/name_f] and his whole family has been trying to get a [name_f]Winnie[/name_f] back in the family but everyone keeps having boys, so I know they’d be happy about it, I’d probably favor Nona/Noni to [name_f]Winnie[/name_f] personally, and it’s meaning “first born daughter” would ring true.

Secondly I’m undecided for spelling:

  • [name_f]Winona[/name_f] [name_u]Blythe[/name_u] [name_f]Renee[/name_f]
  • [name_f]Wynona[/name_f] [name_u]Blythe[/name_u] [name_f]Renee[/name_f]

I love [name_f]Winona[/name_f] [name_u]Blythe[/name_u] [name_f]Renée[/name_f]

[name_f]Winona[/name_f] is a gorgeous, gorgeous name.

This is a tough one for me to parse with the same name, too. It’s got native history, meaning, and import… but then there’s my strong [name_u]Ryder[/name_u] association. I’ve not got any insights, just want to acknowledge the struggle!

[name_f]Winona[/name_f] [name_u]Blythe[/name_u] [name_f]Renee[/name_f] certainly sounds very beautiful  I’m unsure about the issue of its origins though, I feel like you’d need opinions from native people, but the fact you’re partially naming after a [name_f]Winnie[/name_f] I think lends weight to the idea.

[name_f]Winona[/name_f] is the better way to spell this name. That way there will not be any confusion. [name_f]Lovely[/name_f] name.

I’m honestly pro either spelling! I’m also more for Noni than [name_f]Winnie[/name_f]!

[name_f]Winona[/name_f] is different but not so different that it doesn’t make a lovely pair with [name_u]Arthur[/name_u]!

I know I kinda love [name_u]Arthur[/name_u] & [name_f]Winona[/name_f] but it does feel a bit Cowboy vs. [name_f]Indian[/name_f] lol I guess it’s just a natural game for them if we do have a little [name_f]Winona[/name_f] lol
