I’m trying to write a book set in [name_u]Salem[/name_u] in the 17th century, about witches and everything that happened there at that time … But I can’t find the names / surnames of the time!
[name_f]Do[/name_f] you have any idea?
Generally biblical and virtue names are a safe bet when it comes to the 17th century. Here are some I managed to dig up by searching ‘names from the 1600s’ on Google. For surnames, try looking up immigration records, or even look at English surnames from the period. A lot of American families immigrated heavily from [name_f]England[/name_f] during that time, so the surnames aren’t all that different.
This a list of real people which participated during the [name_u]Salem[/name_u] witch trials between February 1692 and [name_f]May[/name_f] 1693.
These people surnames were common at that time.
