I’ve been playing around with a story about witches and need help with some of the names.
I already have two definites and one almost. The main characters are sisters [name_f]Tabitha[/name_f] and [name_f]Sabrina[/name_f], whose mother named them ironically after famous witches in the media. It’s the coven’s injoke that the girls hate. Then their friend is either going to be called [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] (it’s very earthy and magical imo) or [name_f]Alison[/name_f], which honours a famous witch she is descended from (nickname [name_f]Ally[/name_f] or [name_f]Alice[/name_f]).
First of, what are your opinions on the established names I’ve chosen? Out of [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] and [name_f]Alison[/name_f], which do you prefer? Secondly, I need some help naming the other two characters. I need something that has a magical/witchy touch to it but nothing too obvious, nor too out there (e.g no Hermiones, Bathshebas etc). It has to be something a school girl can use without fear of embarrassment or bullying.
Descriptions of the characters:
Character 1: she is very friendly, sweet and shy. She is a people pleaser and is very insecure about herself because she is plain looking and not academically bright.
Character 2: she is extremely beautiful (to a fault), confident and bolshy. She attracts the wrong crowd and is frustrated that no one sees past her looks. She is also the least powerful witch but it’s hinted her power may lie within her beauty (e.g she is a succubus)
I had a hard time picking between [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] and [name_f]Alison[/name_f], I kept going back and forth. Ultimately, I think [name_f]Alison[/name_f] fits better with [name_f]Tabitha[/name_f] and [name_f]Sabrina[/name_f] so while I prefer [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] as a name, I think [name_f]Alison[/name_f] fits better with the already named characters.
Names that strike me as magical:
[name_f]Theodora[/name_f]
[name_f]Seraphina[/name_f]
[name_f]Juliet[/name_f]
[name_f]Ariadne[/name_f]
[name_f]Viviana[/name_f]/[name_u]Vivian[/name_u]
[name_f]Violeta[/name_f]
[name_f]Naomi[/name_f]
[name_f]Miriam[/name_f]
[name_f]Zenobia[/name_f]
[name_f]Anastasia[/name_f]
[name_f]Ophelia[/name_f]
[name_f]Freya[/name_f]
[name_f]Philomena[/name_f]
[name_f]Penelope[/name_f]
[name_f]Lula[/name_f]
[name_f]Tallulah[/name_f]
[name_f]Rhiannon[/name_f]
[name_u]Sage[/name_u]
[name_f]Harlow[/name_f]
[name_f]Alexandra[/name_f]
I think I would go for something with an M sound for the first one. Some variation of [name_f]Mary[/name_f] like [name_f]Marin[/name_f] or Merrien. And maybe a name with “elia” in the end for the second one, like [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] or [name_f]Ophelia[/name_f].
I think [name_u]Allison[/name_u] might work nn [name_f]Ally[/name_f]/[name_u]Ali[/name_u]. And for magical names, you can do [name_u]Piper[/name_u], [name_f]Seraphina[/name_f], [name_f]Morgana[/name_f], or [name_f]Stella[/name_f].
Witch names I like:
[name_f]Theophania[/name_f]
[name_f]Leocadia[/name_f]
[name_f]Sophronia[/name_f]
[name_f]Luna[/name_f]
[name_f]Soleil[/name_f]
[name_f]Meriel[/name_f] (or other M names that have to do with the sea)
I was thinking the same thing. I wanted to write a witchy story. Here are the non obvious sounding witch names that I listed when brainstorming. I love Sabrina and Luna but those are witch cliches
