First…no one will ever get Bowel Movement from [name_f]Brenna[/name_f] M. Especially not anyone in grade school, which is basically where name teasing is the worst.
[name_f]Tamsyn[/name_f] is a cute name, but I didn’t notice Tampon until you mentioned it. The [name_m]Tarzan[/name_m] reference, to me, isn’t even that bad!
I think they are both gorgeous names, I prefer [name_f]Tamsyn[/name_f], and I don’t think you have anything to worry about!
[name_f]My[/name_f] name was exotic, and I got picked on in elementary school…I’m glad it happened. I’m very grateful for my unique name, and it toughened me up a little. [name_m]Even[/name_m] if my name was [name_f]Samantha[/name_f], people would find something to pick on me for.
[name_m]Don[/name_m]'t worry-it’d be such a waste not to use [name_f]Tamsyn[/name_f]!
You names are very pretty. I like [name_f]Tamsyn[/name_f] [name_f]Isolde[/name_f] the best. [name_f]Brenna[/name_f] is not my style, although you have made a lovely combo in [name_f]Brenna[/name_f] [name_f]Carys[/name_f].
I think mean kids can make fun of any name- and if not ones name, they will find something else to ridicule- personal appearance, personality, family members, etc. So you should just choose the name you love best, the one that speaks to your heart, and teach your child to wear it with pride. Neither of your names smacks of obvious teasing potential.
I don’t think you have to worry about [name_f]Tamsyn[/name_f] being teased. I like the thought and meaning between your name choices. Irish twins! [name_m]How[/name_m] fun!
I love [name_f]Tamsyn[/name_f] with [name_f]Kiera[/name_f]! Gorgeous names. I wouldn’t be overly concerned about teasing – none of the things you mentioned would have even occurred to me if you hadn’t said them, and I don’t think they will occur to kids either.
So one vote for [name_f]Tamsyn[/name_f] so far, cool! If we did go with [name_f]Tamsyn[/name_f] [name_f]Isolde[/name_f], my other concern is that I despise the nn [name_f]Tammy[/name_f]. I had a midwife by that name who really did me wrong. Are there any other nn options for ppl who feel they must shorten it?
I think mean kids can make fun of any name
^that’s kind of what I figured! Thank you mulme944 for the encouragement. I just don’t want my DD to hate me, lol.
I don’t see the problem with either name and think maybe, just maybe you’re over thinking it. I know it’s a huge decision and you don’t want to make the wrong choice. However, I don’t think kids are as creative with teasing as adults think they are.
[name_f]Brenna[/name_f] and [name_f]Tamsyn[/name_f] are beautiful names. I didn’t get bowel moment from BM or tampon from [name_f]Tamsyn[/name_f]. They really are stretches. You have great names picked out. If you love them, don’t let a little worry from teasing that hasn’t happened and probably never will take that away from you.
When I think of initials, I think of all 3 so I wouldn’t have thought of just BM.
The only thing I would worry about with [name_f]Tamsyn[/name_f] is that some people would want to call her [name_f]Tammy[/name_f] which would ruin it for me.
I think both names are pretty!
Thank you so much everyone. Lots of responses came in so fast, love it! Looks like a preference for [name_f]Tamsyn[/name_f].
I like [name_f]Brenna[/name_f] [name_f]Carys[/name_f] more than [name_f]Tamsyn[/name_f] [name_f]Isolde[/name_f] as a combo, but I think [name_f]Kiera[/name_f] and [name_f]Tamsyn[/name_f] sound better together than [name_f]Kiera[/name_f] and [name_f]Brenna[/name_f]. I prefer the [name_f]Tamsin[/name_f] spelling though.
I don’t see a ton of teasing potential in [name_f]Tamsyn[/name_f], I think you’re worrying for no reason. Kids will be kids and will find a way to tease if so inclined/motivated, but i think [name_m]Tarzan[/name_m] and Tampon are stretches.
I also don’t think kids refer to BM’s as BM’s. I didn’t even become familiar with that term until working in day cares as an older teen, well beyond the years of potty teasing.
Anyways… congrats and good luck!
I wouldn’t be worried about teasing for either of those. The concerns I’d have would be that [name_f]Tamsin[/name_f] spelled with a y looks very yooneek and will be misspelled. Why not just use the traditional spelling? I find it more visually pleasing, anyhow. Another issue with [name_f]Tamsin[/name_f] is that the nickname is lends itself most easily to is [name_f]Tammy[/name_f], which I find unattractive. I wouldn’t let this alone turn you away from [name_f]Tamsin[/name_f]; of the two, I prefer [name_f]Tamsin[/name_f] (only spelled this way) to [name_f]Brenna[/name_f], and I like the meaning you associate it with with [name_f]Kiera[/name_f].
[name_f]Brenna[/name_f]'s main concern that with its boyish sound, it could get mistaken for [name_u]Brennan[/name_u] or even [name_m]Brendan[/name_m]. The BM thing didn’t even occur to me, and plus, her initials would technically be BCM. The only time I’d worry is if the initials would be BAD or something.
bibliophile, I tend to agree w/everything you just posted. I HATE the nn [name_f]Tammy[/name_f], love [name_f]Tamsyn[/name_f]. [name_f]Tamsyn[/name_f] I believe is actually the original spelling (Cornish name). DH nixed the [name_f]Tamsin[/name_f] spelling  he wanted Tamzyn but I think it’s too tryndee.
I think I like [name_f]Brenna[/name_f] a bit more than [name_f]Tamsyn[/name_f]. (teensy bit) Mostly because I think [name_f]Brenna[/name_f] will age well – look good on a diploma, job resume, etc. Not concerned about the masculinity aspect, as [name_f]Kiera[/name_f] becomes [name_u]Kieran[/name_u] with the addition of an “n” as well. But then, is [name_f]Brenna[/name_f] too close to [name_f]Kiera[/name_f], with them both being 2-syll names ending in “a”?
[name_f]My[/name_f] brain hurts.
I also like tamsyn. I really think your concerns with both names should be dismissed, as the references aren’t that obvious. I have a friend tamlyn and think its a neat name. Good choices I wish you like and either is fine!
You could nickname [name_f]Tamsyn[/name_f] [name_f]Amy[/name_f]
Sorry I missed my lunch hour forum browsing today! Thanks katerinam for the suggestion of [name_f]Amy[/name_f] as nn. Also WDTY of the nn [name_u]Sam[/name_u]/[name_u]Sammie[/name_u]/[name_u]Sammy[/name_u] for [name_f]Tamsyn[/name_f]? Does it work?
I don’t think you should be worried about teasing at all. Especially Bowel Movement for [name_f]Brenna[/name_f] M. I seriously don’t think any young child, or even a lot of adults would pick that up. As a previous posted has already said, even children with common, “normal” and popular names can get picked on for their names.
