I just read an article about a woman with two sets of twins, one set was named [name_m]Alfred[/name_m] and [name_f]Liberty[/name_f]. Fine. A bit of a style mismatch, but fine. Her second set was [name_f]Abbigayle[/name_f] and Izzabellah. Spelled like that. I’ve also seen a Zaiiyden (two I’s, seriously) and an [name_f]Elleigh[/name_f]. What are the most tortured spellings you’ve seen?
I’ve seen Ayvah ([name_f]Ava[/name_f]), [name_f]Alivia[/name_f] ([name_f]Olivia[/name_f]), and [name_f]Izabella[/name_f] ([name_f]Isabella[/name_f]). It eeks my insides, just because the names are insanely popular so why detour from the original spelling. [name_f]Alivia[/name_f] is appealing, but [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] is so much better. “I want my child to be different.” Well ok pick a different name because your y in [name_f]Ava[/name_f] isn’t going to make a difference out on the playground, during class, etc. Her entire life she’ll be saying “[name_f]Ava[/name_f] with a y.”
Thankfully I haven’t come across many in real life, people aren’t as ruthless in [name_f]England[/name_f] I guess lol. However, Toddlers and Tiaras… Boy… There were twins called Alycesaundra and [name_f]Giavanna[/name_f], poor Alycesaundra really got the worst of it! And then there was Sparkal, and Sparkle is bad enough, let alone Sparkal, and Saryniti.
Alycesaundra for [name_f]Alessandra[/name_f] and Saryniti for [name_f]Serenity[/name_f] have to be the worst.
I will always remember [name_f]Giavanna[/name_f] and Alycesaundra from Toddlers & Tiaras. Really really really awful spellings. Why not [name_f]Alessandra[/name_f] & [name_f]Giovanna[/name_f]? [name_f]Giavanna[/name_f] wasn’t horrible, but man Alycesaundra got the major short end of the stick.
One of my sisters has a friend with a daughter named Aliviyah ([name_f]Olivia[/name_f]).
[name_f]Kymberly[/name_f]
[name_f]Chrystyna[/name_f]
I don’t like anytime people replace a perfectly normal “i” with a “y”
I haven’t come across any, but oh my dear lord, those spellings are horrendous!
[name_f]EDIT[/name_f]: I just remembered, I did meet a girl named [name_f]Ilysa[/name_f] pronounced [name_f]Eliza[/name_f]. Also knew a guy named Ehren.
Airun
I have no words
I know an [name_f]Elinor[/name_f] and a [name_f]Nataly[/name_f]
I haven’t met many people with horrible creative spellings but here are the worst:
Lawryn ([name_f]Lauren[/name_f])
Ashelly ([name_u]Ashley[/name_u])
[name_f]Alivia[/name_f] (Pronounced as [name_f]Olivia[/name_f])
I see a lot of children’s names on forms at work and I’ve had
Olivyah
Tayluh
Konneur (the kid had written ‘pronounced [name_m]Connor[/name_m]’ next to it!)
I haven’t seen many badly spelt names, to be honest… When people spell my name, they usually don’t think it’s spelt the usual way, so they spell it a different way. This does annoy me, especially when they spell it [name_f]Khloe[/name_f] or Clowey.
I haven’t come across any in real life but I hate it when people spell [name_u]Jay[/name_u] as [name_u]Jae[/name_u], [name_u]Jai[/name_u], [name_u]Jaye[/name_u], Jhaye and so on!
Also most C names spelt with a K, for example; [name_m]Konnor[/name_m]/[name_m]Konner[/name_m] for [name_m]Connor[/name_m], [name_m]Kaleb[/name_m]/Kalub for [name_m]Caleb[/name_m], [name_m]Kaden[/name_m]/[name_u]Kayden[/name_u]/[name_m]Kaiden[/name_m] etc for [name_m]Caden[/name_m].
Some more;
[name_u]Jesse[/name_u] on a girl. Its a biblical boys name! [name_u]Jessie[/name_u] is a girls name!
[name_f]Everleigh[/name_f], Everlee, [name_m]Everley[/name_m] etc for [name_u]Everly[/name_u].
[name_f]Lilly[/name_f], [name_f]Lillie[/name_f], [name_f]Lilie[/name_f] etc for [name_f]Lily[/name_f].
[name_m]Jaxon[/name_m], [name_m]Jaxson[/name_m], [name_m]Jaxen[/name_m] etc for [name_m]Jackson[/name_m].
[name_u]Reed[/name_u], [name_u]Read[/name_u], [name_m]Reide[/name_m] etc for [name_u]Reid[/name_u]
I could probably go on for days.
I despise “creative” name spellings, especially with already trendy names.
Ex)
[name_f]Kaylee[/name_f]
[name_f]Kayleigh[/name_f]
Brayleigh
[name_f]Braydyn[/name_f]
etc.
The worst offense, for me personally, is putting a wild -eigh at the end of any -y or -ie name. Like [name_f]Ashleigh[/name_f] of [name_f]Hayleigh[/name_f].
My name is [name_u]Hilary[/name_u] and sometimes I shudder at the though of someone naming a child Hilareigh. Why?
I don’t get it.
