Still torn on baby boy name for [name]Annabelle[/name]'s {hopeful} brother!
[name]Alfredo[/name] is a family name. . and I just [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Freddie[/name]!
But I can just see a bunch of 5 year olds giggling at [name]Alfred/name??
Sorry, side post! Someone suggested [name]August[/name] for a brother for [name]Annabelle[/name], I really like that too. [name]GUS[/name] or Auggie!
but our last name is [name]Garcia[/name]. Does [name]August[/name], [name]Augustin[/name] [name]Garcia[/name] fit?! I am just not sure!!
I think [name]Alfredo[/name] is sweet. It doesn’t seem too odd, so I can’t imagine more than the usual name teasing. What would they say? “Hey [name]Alfredo[/name] sauce!” LOL I also think it works better with your last name than [name]August[/name].
I taught an [name]Alfredo[/name] when he was in 9th grade. He was not made fun of either. 5-year-olds…do they even know that [name]Alfredo[/name] is also something you can eat? Possibly not. It might be one of those names where, by the time you’re old enough to realize it has teasing potential, you’re starting to get too old to tease people at all.
Since it is a family name, I think that would make it easier for your son to justify why you chose it. It has several nickname possibilities that don’t invite teasing, and if you also give him a safe middle name, he should have lots of options if teasing does occur and he wants to go by something else for awhile.
I would think he would, but I did know one briefly and I don’t think he was made fun of actually.
I like the name [name]August[/name] better but [name]August[/name] [name]Garcia[/name] seems like a mouthful.
I like that [name]Alfredo[/name] is a family name and I agree that [name]Freddie[/name] is super cute. I think it wins over [name]August[/name]. Also, I wonder if [name]August[/name] isn’t getting a bit too popular/trendy. [name]Love[/name] the name, I’ve just seen it a TON on the boards lately.
i like them both. i dont think the tease factor would be that bad. i know a toddler named augustus, and they nn him [name]Gussy[/name] for now! i think its super cute for a toddler!
No, that’s not the kind of name kids would make fun of.
As a former teacher kids go for rhyming to make fun like “[name]Matt[/name] is Fat”, or obious bad names like “dick” or “[name]Bush[/name]” as a last name.
An [name]Alfredo[/name] is nothing they would go for.
Where I teach, there are so many children with Hispanic names that neither [name]Alfredo[/name] nor [name]Augustin[/name] would be made teased. And I grew up in an Italian neighbourhood where [name]Fredo[/name] and [name]Augusto[/name] were quite common. If [name]Alfredo[/name] is a family name, use it. It’s a great name.
[name]Alfredo[/name] definitely makes me think of pasta sauce, but I don’t think a little [name]Alfie[/name] would get teased. I do like [name]August[/name], but I prefer [name]Augustus[/name] [name]Garcia[/name] to [name]August[/name] [name]Garcia[/name], and you can still have Auggie as a nn. (so cute!)
I knew an [name]Alfredo[/name] who went by [name]Freddie[/name]. I don’t think the kids in school ever called him [name]Alfredo[/name]. He just always went by [name]Freddie[/name]. His close friends would call him [name]Alfredo[/name] though.
Two prominent [name]Alfredo[/name] references: the pasta (as mentioned) and the middle son (called [name]Fredo[/name]) in the Godfather triology who is a screw-up, a whiner, and a traitor, and is finally “whacked” by his brother [name]Michael[/name] in the second movie.
Neither reference is a dealbreaker, but I definitely wouldn’t call him [name]Fredo[/name] as a nn. Godfather II isn’t going anywhere and it’s really quotable: “I knew it was you, [name]Fredo[/name]! You broke my heart!” Obviously his kindergarten friends wont know the reference, but his future college buddies will. . .
I don’t think an [name]Alfredo[/name] would be teased. I know two Alfredos (father and son). One goes by his full name and the other a unrelated nickname, neither have ever commented on being teased.
I prefer [name]August[/name] to [name]Alfredo[/name]. I don’t think [name]August[/name] [name]Garcia[/name] sounds bad. I would use the nickname Auggie over [name]Gus[/name] tho because [name]Gus[/name] [name]Garcia[/name] does sound a tad harsh.
