I am looking for a name for a character in a story that my friend and I are thinking about writing down. She is a British housemaid in a huge house with lots of servants (Think Downton [name]Abbey[/name]) in the late 18 hundreds or the early 20th century (haven’t decided) she is the youngest maid (about 14 or 15 years old) and has darker hair and a darker complexion than the others, which cause some rumours about her heritage (part gypsy, etc.) She has a fiery temper when made angry (and has a sharp tongue which occasionally gets her in trouble) and can definitely hold her own against just about anyone. She is very pretty which sometimes gets her noticed for the wrong reasons. She is skilled at her job which gives her somewhat of a higher-ranking position in the household despite her age. Despite her temper, she gets along well with everyone, including the wealthy family, and always jumps to comfort and help a friend in need. I was maybe thinking a feminine name with a spunky, slightly tomboyish nickname which is sometimes disapproved of by the more upright servants. Thanks!
P.S. If there any obvious flaws in the historical aspect of this, please let me know. My only knowledge of this setting comes from books and ‘Downton [name]Abbey[/name]’
[name]Lucille[/name] “[name]Lu[/name]” or “[name]Lulu[/name]”
[name]Josephine[/name] “[name]Jo[/name]”(but that might be to [name]Little[/name] Women)
[name]Veronica[/name] “[name]Ronnie[/name]”
[name]Beatrice[/name] “[name]Bea[/name]”
[name]Beatrix[/name] “[name]Trixie[/name]”
[name]Charlotte[/name] "[name]Lottie[/name] or “[name]Charlie[/name]”
[name]Georgia[/name] “[name]Georgie[/name]”
In some aristocratic houses of the 20th century, many of the servants were of Irish origin. The first name that comes to mind is [name]Bridget[/name] nn [name]Bridie[/name] or [name]Birdie[/name].
