Would It Be Completely Insane To Add This?

As some of you know, I love the associations I have with [name_f]Gertrude[/name_f]. The connections I make with the name are with the movie [name_u]Jersey[/name_u] Girl, with [name_f]Jennifer[/name_f] Lopez playing a [name_f]Gertrude[/name_f], and [name_m]Ben[/name_m] Affleck as an [name_u]Ollie[/name_u], their daughter being named [name_f]Gertie[/name_f]. The movie is set in the 1990’s/2000’s, so it’s not a historical film at all.

[name_f]My[/name_f] mum and I often discuss names, and she agreed, [name_f]Gertrude[/name_f] reminds her of [name_u]Jersey[/name_u] Girl and ET ([name_f]Gertie[/name_f] was [name_u]Drew[/name_u] Barrymore’s character). She also said she liked it and it went well with other names she sees me using ([name_f]Matilda[/name_f], [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f], [name_f]Josephine[/name_f], [name_f]Lillian[/name_f], etc).

The more I think about it, the more I like it. Would it make me completely crazy if I added [name_f]Gertrude[/name_f] nn [name_f]Gertie[/name_f] to my list?

There was another really great movie with a [name_f]Gertie[/name_f]/[name_f]Gertrude[/name_f] in it but I can’t remember the title right now! While, personally, I’m not a huge fan of the name, I definitely think it could work on a little girl in today’s day and age. [name_f]Gertie[/name_f] definitely lightens the name up.

Unfortunately the way I say [name_f]Gertie[/name_f] ends up coming out more like “Gerdie,” or girdle, and [name_f]Gertrude[/name_f] reminds me of the words girdle, rude, and prude, and of [name_u]GERD[/name_u], the acid reflux thing. Honestly I’ve never liked the name, however, I still prefer it over many names being used currently. [name_m]Just[/name_m] thought I’d be honest.

[name_f]Gertrude[/name_f] makes me think of [name_m]Hamlet[/name_m]. If you really like it I’d add it!

It wouldn’t be insane since you seem to like it, and it does match your other favorites. Personally, the sound is really unappealing to me, but it’s not my hypothetical baby! [name_f]Gertrude[/name_f] isn’t an awful trendy name that has no history – the opposite, it’s a very old name. If you love it, who cares of others don’t? (And it’s mom-approved, which is even hard to get than mens’ approval sometimes :stuck_out_tongue: )

I’m not personally a fan of the name, however if you like it then you should add it to your list!

And they do sort of go with the other names you’ve listed, all of the names are full of history and [name_f]Gertrude[/name_f] goes well with them!

I don’t like [name_f]Gertrude[/name_f] myself, but if you do, then add it! No name is going to please everyone.

Thanks everyone! Haha, so glad I’m not certifiably insane (yet…). I really am loving the idea of a little [name_f]Gertrude[/name_f].
